      • A Comparative Study of Handheld Devices and Freehand Gestures according to the Smart TV controls

        The research tests the cognitive burden of consumers through the use of smart TV’s various contents and services with different operation systems such as free hand or equipment gestures (permissive button, non-permissive button). The purpose of this study was to use the Smart TV features selected and verify by experiment a user-centered approach. The experiment selected 20 functions and 20 test subjects to repeatedly perform the 3 previously mentioned operation systems gestures for each function. As a result, the operation of each specific function was obtained representing the 3 gestures. The feedback agreement from each gesture was measured. Also, by measuring the time, preference, performance, and difficulty of each function the statistical difference between the operation systems was significant. Generally the free hand gesture was more convenient and preferred to consumers than the equipment gesture. The results showed these functions: volume +/-, channel +/-, scroll and point move are suitable to be used with gesture operation systems. Whereas mute, home, menu, and like functions were somewhat unsuitable. Through the results of the research on usability of Smart TV operation system, gesture operation methods can improve the user experience in the future.

        A Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (LC-Q-TOF MS) Study for Analyzing 35 Corticosteroid Compounds: Elucidation of MS/MS Fragmentation Pathways

        Corticosteroids have been often found to be added to a dietary supplement for the purpose of illegally improving the effect of their products. Thus, it is imperative to develop or improve a method that enables one to rapidly and reliably analyze corticosteroids in health or dietary supplements, for the safety management purpose. In the present study, results from liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-Q-TOF-MS) experiments for the selected 35 corticosteroid compounds are presented, which can be useful for the qualitative screening of corticosteroids in health or dietary supplements. Specifically, retention times, accurate mass data of the protonated steroids, m/z values of major fragment ions are given for the 35 corticosteroids. Further, fragmentation pathways for the selected steroids are also suggested. Based on the suggested fragmentation pathways, it was shown that an unknown steroid compound can be readily identified using the knowledge of a group of unique and specific common skeletal fragments. The high selectivity and sensitivity of the LC-Q-TOF-MS/MS results combined with the knowledge of the fragmentation pathways can offer a new opportunity for rapid and accurate screening of corticosteroids, thus preventing health-related incidents involving adulterated products and clamping down on illegally circulated health products.

        부모의 양육효능감이 초기청소년 자녀의 자아탄력성과 학습효능감에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 부모가 자각하는 양육효능감이 초기청소년 자녀의 자아탄력성과 학업효능감에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 경기도 소재 초등학교 5-6학년 학부모와 그 자녀 총 274명을 대상으로 부모의 양육효능감척도, 자아탄력성 척도, 학업효능감 척도를 사용한 설문지를 이용하여 조사를 실시하였다. 자료분석을 위해 서는 SPSS 15.0 통계프로그램을 사용하였고, 연구 대상 인구통계학적 특성을 알아보기 위해 기술통계를, 각 변인들의 관계를 알아보기 위해 상관분석과 단순회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모가 자각한 양육효능감과 자녀의 자아탄력성과 학업효능감 간의 상관관계를 분석한 결과, 모두 정적 상관 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부모가 지각한 양육효능감과 자녀의 자아탄력성과의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 부모의 양육효능감이 높을수록 자녀의 자아탄력성도 높은것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 부모의 양육효능감과 자녀의 학업효능감과의 관계에서 앞에서와 마찬가지 부모의 양육효능감이 높을수록 자녀의 학업효능감이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 본 연구의 의의와 한계점을 논의하였다. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of how parenting efficacy realized by parents affects early adolescent s ego-resiliency and academic self-efficacy . The study surveyed total 274 of grade 5/6 students and their parents from Gyeonggi using questionnaires with each measure of parents parenting efficacy, ego-resiliency and academic self-efficacy. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS 18.0, a statistical program. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to find out the demographic characteristic of the survey target and correlation analysis and simple regression analysis were carried out to find out the relationship between each of factors. Results of the study can be summarized as follows: First, on analysis of the correlation between parenting efficacy realized by parents and adolescent s ego-resiliency and academic self-efficacy, there were all positive correlation. Second, through the review of the relation between parents parenting efficacy and adolescent s ego-resiliency, it was revealed that the higher parents parenting efficacy, the higher adolescent s ego-resiliency. Third, on the relation between parents parenting efficacy and adolescent s academic self-efficacy, like the previous case, we found out that the higher parents parenting efficacy, the higher adolescent s academic self-efficacy as well. Based on these results, the meaning and the threshold of this study were discussed.

      • Functional Insights of Ceramides in Epidermis

        Intercellular lipids of stratum corneum mainly consist of ceramides, free fatty acids, and cholesterol. Ceramides are synthesized in endoplasmic reticulum and transported to the lamellar bodies which provide intercellular lipids in stratum corneum during epidermal differentiation. The lipid mass of ceramides is approximately 50% of the intercellular lipid contents in stratum corneum. The decrease in ceramide levels significantly impairs the integrity of skin permeability barrier and results in the increase in transepidermal water loss. The content and quantity of ceramides can directly affect the lamellar layer rigidity of stratum corneum lipid matrix and genetic mutations or polymorphisms of ceramide metabolic enzymes are associated with the disrupted skin barrier functions. In addition to the structural role in skin permeability barrier, ceramides are important in the regulation of cell biology functions such as ultraviolet B irradiation-induced cellular apoptosis, inflammation-related autophagy, and the proliferation and differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes. Besides skin, ceramides and their metabolites are also interested in other tissues because ceramides are associated with various human diseases like diabetes and cancers. Notably, skin microbiota can affect the ceramide metabolism and change the content of ceramides and their metabolites in stratum corneum lipid matrix. Sphingosine choline phosphotransferase and sphingomyelin deacylase may increase sphingosylphosphorylcholine (SPC), a ceramide metabolite increased in the stratum corneum of some atopic patient population. The genes of these metabolic enzymes responsible for the increase in SPC have not been discovered in human cell studies. It is possible that the abnormal SPC production in atopic skin may be associated with microorganism-derived ceramide metabolic enzymes. Therefore, research on skin microbiota should be directed toward the elucidation of microbiota-associated ceramide metabolic enzymes to understand the ceramide homeostasis in human epidermis.

      • Short Communication : Quantitative determination of aceclofenac and its three major metabolites in rat plasma by HPLC-MS/MS

        We developed a method for the simultaneous quantification of aceclofenac and its three major metabolites in rat plasma. After protein precipitation with acetonitrile including flufenamic acid as an internal standard (IS), aceclofenac, diclofenac, 4`-hydroxyaceclofenac, 4`-hydroxydiclofenac, and the IS were chromatographed on a reverse-phase C18 analytical column. The isocratic mobile phase of acetonitrile/0.1% formic acid (aq; 9:1 [v/v]) was eluted at 0.3 mL/min. Quantification was performed on a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer using electrospray ionization, and the ion transitions were monitored in selective reaction-monitoring mode. The coefficient of variation in the assay precision was less than 8%, and the accuracy was 92-103%. This method was successfully used to measure the concentrations of aceclofenac and its three major metabolites in rat plasma following the oral administration of a single 20 mg/kg oral dose of aceclofenac.

        High-performance vertical hydrogen sensors using Pd-coated rough Si nanowires

        <P>We fabricated Pd-coated rough Si nanowires, using a combination of Si electroless etching and Pd sputtering. The semi-densely distributed, vertical-standing rough Si nanowires, which were clustered locally with inter-cluster distances of several nm to several μm, were selected as a basal platform. Pd was coated only on the upper part of the Si nanowires in the semi-dense configuration, and their surface profile replicated the surface morphology of Si nanowires. The Pd-coated rough Si nanowires showed good reversibility and excellent hydrogen-sensing performance in terms of sensitivity (>300%), response time (<3 s), and detection limit (∼5 ppm). These attributes are discussed in terms of the vertical-standing nanowire structures and the rough surface effect of the nanowires. Interestingly, the variation in sensitivity of the Pd-coated Si nanowire sensors was divided into two regimes, which appeared in the low and high hydrogen concentration ranges, respectively.         1×8배열, 7.8 ㎛ 최대반응 GaAs / AlGaAs 양자우물 적외선 검출기

        장파장영역의 적외선 검출을 위해 구속-비구속 상태간 전이를 이용한 GaAs/AlGaAs 이종접합 다중양자우물구조형태 검출기를 제작하여 전기적, 광학적 특성을 살펴보았다. 시료는 MBE를 이용하여 SI-GaAs(100) 기판 위에 장벽 500 Å, 폭 40 Å의 양자우물구조를 25층 성장시켰으며, Al의 몰분율은 0.28로 하였고 우물의 중심부 20 Å은 2×10^(18)㎝-³의 농도로 Si n-도핑을 하였다. 200×200 ㎛² 면적의 사각형 화소가 되도록 시료를 식각한 후 Au/Ge로 전극을 붙여 1×8 검출기 배열을 제작하였다. 10K의 온도에서 적외선 광원에 대한 광특성을 조사한 결과 1차원으로 배열한 8개의 단일소자 모두 7.8 ㎛파장에서 최대반응을 보였으며 검출률(D*)은 최대 4.9×10^9 ㎝ √㎐/W이었다. We fabricated 1×8 array of GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well infrared photodetectors for the long wavelength infrared detection which is based on the bound-to-continuum intersubband transition, and characterized its electrical and optical properties. The device was grown on SI-GaAs(100) by the molecular beam epitaxy and consisted of 25 period of 40 Å GaAs well and 500 Å Al_(0.28)Ga_(0.72)As barrier. To reduce the possibility of interface states only the center 20 Å of the well was doped with Si (N_D=2×10^(18)㎝-³). We etched the sample to make square mesas of 200×200 ㎛² and made an ohmic contact on each pixel with Au/Ge. Current-voltage characteristics and photo response spectrum of each detector reveal that the array was highly uniform and stable. The spectral responsivity and the detectivity D* were measured to be 180,260 V/W and 4.9×10^9 ㎝ √㎐/W respectively at the peak wavelength of λ = 7.8 ㎛ and at T = 10 K.

      • Exploration of Information Architecture for Speech Interface under Absence of Visual Information

        There are various computers in our daily life, after the concept of Ubiquitous computing has been introduced and the technology for computer has been newly developed. The study on the information architecture and the modality, getting information from interface, has been taken, as a result. The AUI(Auditory User Interface) appeared to give information in sound, leading to these. However, there are few studies on the optimal information architecture giving information in verbally on AUI, having button type control panel. This study thus attempts to reveal the optimal information structure format in perspective of the interface factors(the number of controls, the quantity of information that the interface has) affect on the usability. The learning time and performance time were measured with the prototype of control panel. The learning time and performance time were increased following to the number of controls and the quantity of information that interface has. The type of the function arrangement makes the learning time increase, but performance time decrease. When the quantity of information equals, less buttons and deeper depth of functions are better than the others in perspective of learning time.
