해외봉사활동이 수혜국가 아동에 미친 영향에 관한 연구 = 캄보디아 빈곤아동들의 자기효능감과의 관계성을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

국내외를 막론하고 해외봉사단 활동이 수혜국가 주민들에 미친 영향을 측정한 연구가 거의 전무한 상황에서 본 연구는 한국의 NGO를 비롯, 선진국의 단기 해외봉사단을 주기적으로 받는 캄보디아 기관의 아동들을 대상으로 비실험적 사후조사로나마 그 영향 및 관계성을 측정하고자 했다. 해외봉사단원들과 접촉한 횟수, 만족도에 따라 캄보디아 아동들의 자기효능감에 유의미한 차이가 있는지를 측정하였다. 이를 위해 한국어로 개발된 ‘일반적 자기효능감’척도를 영어와 캄보디아어로 번역하고 1개월간 캄보디아에 체류하면서 현지 3개 기관의 아동 133명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석결과, 선진국의 해외봉사 집단활동은 캄보디아 아동들의 자기효능감, 그중 특히 자기조절효능감과 관계성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 해외봉사단과 자주 만나고, 만남에 만족하는 아동일수록 그렇지 못한 집단의 아동들보다 자기조절 효능감이 높았다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

With regard to the today’s rapidly changing globalization, this study examined the effects and/or interactive relationships of international volunteering from advanced countries on poor children living in developing countries, specifically focusing on the psychological impact of group activities of international volunteering on poor cambodian children. Studies on the effects of international volunteering activities of advanced countries on the people of developing countries have been limited in number. Thus, to fill this gap, this study was designed to evaluate the effects and/or interactive relationship between their activities and the receiving country’s children, and provide suggestions for the desirable direction on international volunteering activities from advanced countries. The study examined whether the self-efficacy of poor Cambodian children is significantly affected by the amount of contact and the degree of satisfaction with the international volunteers from advanced countries including Korea. For this study, the general self-efficacy scale - the one that a Korean scholar revised from tle standardized Western scale, was employed after translating the scale with both English and Cambodian. The survey was conducted for one month in Phnom Pen, Cambodia having the support from three Cambodian local NGOs, which are located in the city of Phnom Pen and its outskirt countryside. From the three NGOs, 133 poor Cambodian children responded to all of the survey questions. The result showed that the group activity of international volunteering from advanced countries had an impact on the children’s self-efficacy, particularly on their self-controlling efficacy. That is, the children who met international volunteers and were satisfied with their activities had the higher levels of self-efficacy. The result suggests that the current group activities of international volunteering of advanced countries should consider the psychological impacts of their activities on poor children in developing countries.
