초등학교에서 다문화 아동들에 대한 인류학적 현지연구를 한다는 것: 연구과정의 어려움과 한계, 시사점을 중심으로 = Doing an anthropological field-work on multicultural children in elementary school: Focusing on the difficulties, limitations and implications of research experiences

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper was designed to explore what difficulties I experienced, how I dealt with them, and finally what lessons may be learned from those experiences based on the field-work in two elementary schools on multicultural children. According to the result, first, it was not easy for me, as an individual fielder-worker who had not any institutional background but a candidate for PhD, to enter into the school and obtain the teachers' consent on the field-work. Fortunately, I was able to encounter two devoted, passionate co-workers who helped me to enter the school and get the approval of the other teachers. From this, it would be better for the field-worker who would like to do research activities in elementary school to present one's problematique as a comprehensive, ambiguous one, contact a middle-manager teacher and to take 'a progressive entree strategy.' Next, doing field-work on multicultural children in elementary school turned out to be kind of risky, dangerous and limited. Any field-worker who want to do field-work on multicultural children in elementary school must consider such conditions as the privacy of multicultural children, the anxiety of teachers for "civil complaints" from parents, and, most of all, the possibility of revocation on the research itself, so that one need to be prepared in handling them. Furthermore, for going on well in the field, the field-worker must find and invent various roles which would be required for him in the field. Finally, the field-worker should not only satisfy co-workers' expectations, but also accept their rejections as a part of the partnership.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구에서는 다문화 아동들에 대한 초등학교에서의 인류학적 현지연구 경험에 기초하여 현지에서 연구자가 어떠한 어려움에 부딪혔으며 이에 어떻게 대처해 나갔는지, 또 이러한 경험을 바탕으로 초등학교에서 다문화 아동들에 대한 현지연구를 수행하고자 하는 연구자에게 제공할 수 있는 시사점들은 무엇인지 고민해보았다. 연구결과를 살펴보면, 먼저 박사과정생 신분의 개인 연구자로서 학교에 진입하는 것은 쉬운 일이 아니었다. 이에 비추어 볼 때 초등학교를 연구하고자 하는 연구자는 가급적 연구문제를 포괄적으로 제시하면서 중간관리자급 교사들과 접촉, 점진적 접근의 방법을 취하는 것이 좋을 것이다. 다음으로, 초등학교에서 다문화 아동들에 대한 현지연구를 하고자 하는 연구자는 다문화 아동들과 교사들이 처한 여러 가지 상황, 즉 다문화 아동들의 사생활에 대한 안전, 민원 제기에 대한 교사들의 염려, 연구 자체의 좌절 가능성 등을 고려하고 대비할 수 있어야 할 것이다. 또한 연구자는 원활한 연구 활동을 위해 현지가 요구하는 다양한 역할들을 창출하고 감당할 수 있어야 한다. 끝으로, 연구자는 연구 참여자의 기대를 최대한 충족시킬 수 있어야 하며 연구 협조의 거절 역시 대등한 관계의 일부로서 수용할 수 있어야 한다.
