초등학교 1학년 수학수업에서 나타난 수학적 의사소통에 관한 사례연구 = Mathematical communication in first grade elementary mathematics classrooms: A case study

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This case study investigates the aspects of mathematical communication in first grade elementary mathematics classrooms. We observed 16 math lessons in two first grade elementary classrooms for three months, and conducted interviews with the elementary teachers and students who participated in this study. The results have been drawn as follows: First, the vertical communication initiated by the teacher was most prevalent. It showed teacher-directed forms of discourse such as IRE and funneling patterns with some exceptions in one teacher`s lessons. Second, the horizontal communication among students was very little and occurred mainly in the play context. Third, the positive comments of acknowledging and praising were used, focusing on the first graders` emotional needs. The teachers thought the first graders were still young. Fourth, math talk in the classrooms heavily depended on the multimedia to arouse children`s interests. Lastly, mathematical communication was solely based upon the textbook. The teachers strictly followed the textbook sequence and the content without adjustments. Building on the results, implications for improving mathematical communication were suggested.
