<P><I>Objective</I>. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of Taeeumjowi-tang (TJ001) as well as to estimate obesity-related factors. <I>Methods</I>. This was a 12-week trial with 5 visits. A total of 102 participants of both genders were randomized to either TJ001 (<I>n</I> = 57) group or the placebo group (<I>n</I> = 55). Subjects were administered 7 g of either TJ001 or placebo 3 times a day. The primary outcome was a rate of subjects who lost 5% or more of initial weight. Secondary outcomes included anthropometric parameters, lipid profiles, and body fat composition. <I>Results</I>. The subject response rate of ≥5% weight loss compared to baseline was similar in both groups, and no statistically significant difference was observed (<I>P</I> = 0.87). Changes in anthropometric parameters were greater during the first 4 weeks in the treatment group (<I>P</I> < 0.0001). There were no significant changes in both within groups and between groups for lipid profile and body fat composition. No adverse event was reported in either group. <I>Conclusion</I>. Although the difference between the groups regarding a rate of subjects who lost 5% or more of initial weight did not show statistical significance, TJ001 appears to be beneficial in safely controlling weight.</P>

The Extreme Geophysics Group (EGG) at the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) have installed a broadband seismic network called Korea Polar Seismic Network (KPSN) around Mt. Melbourne since 2011. The KPSN, currently, spreads from the Mt. Melbourne to the upstream of the David Glacier with 17 broadband seismic stations and one infrasound network at the Jang Bogo station. The division of Polar Earth-system Science focused on the research named “Characterizing mantle domain beneath West Antarctic Rift System and Antarctic mid-ocean ridges”, and install OBSs (Ocean Bottom Seismographs) in the sea near the Jang Bogo station to extend the observing coverage of the KPSN. The P-wave upper mantle velocity structure was modeled using the teleseismic events observed on the KPSN and the Transantarctic Mountains Northern Network (TAMNNET) to extend the spatial coverage to the model. Our model shows two separate low-velocity anomalies at ~150km depth located beneath the Terra Rift and inland area of the Mt. Melbourne, respectively, but the tow anomalies connected below the ~150km depth and extend to ~300km depths. The ~300km depth extent of the low-velocity anomaly indicates the Terra Rift might be not an active rifting system.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate gender differences in ground reaction force (GRF) components among different speeds of running. Method: Twenty men ($age=22.4{\pm}1.6years$, $mass=73.4{\pm}8.4kg$, $height=176.2{\pm}5.6cm$) and twenty women ($age=20.7{\pm}1.2years$, $mass=55.0{\pm}8.2kg$, $height=163.9{\pm}5.3cm$) participated in this study. All participants were asked to run on an instrumented dual belt treadmill (Bertec, USA) at 8, 12, and 16 km/h for 3 min, after warming up. GRF data were collected from 30 strides while they were running. Hypotheses were tested using one-way ANOVA, and level of significance was set at p-value <.05. Results: The time to passive peaks was significantly earlier in women than in men at three different running speeds (p<.05). Further, the impact loading rates were significantly greater in women than in men at three different running speeds (p<.05). Moreover, the propulsive peak at 8 km/h, which is the slowest running speed, was significantly greater in women than in men (p<.05), and the vertical impulse at 16 km/h, which is the fastest running speed, was significantly greater in men than in women (p<.05). The absolute anteroposterior impulse at 8 km/h was significantly greater in women than in men (p<.05). In addition, as the running speed increased, impact peak, active peak, impact loading rate, breaking peak, propulsive peak, and anteroposterior impulse were significantly increased, but vertical impulse was significantly decreased (p<.05). Conclusion: The impact loading rate is greater in women than in men regardless of different running speeds. Therefore, female runners might be exposed to the risk of potential injuries related to the bone and ligament. Moreover, increased running speeds could lead to higher possibility of running injuries.

Berries are rich sources of phenolic compounds, which are known to have health-promoting effects. In this study, phenolic compounds of seven popularly consumed berries were analyzed by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS. In addition, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and nitrite scavenging activities were investigated for comparison of the biological activity of the berry extracts. Chlorogenic acid was the major phenolic acid, which had the highest content in aronia, followed by blueberry. The rutin and isoquercetin contents were the highest in mulberry, followed by aronia, black raspberry, and blueberry. The anthocyanin content was the highest in black raspberry. Aronia showed the highest DPPH free radical and nitrite scavenging activities with the highest contents of total phenolics and proanthocyanidins.

A current differential relay has been used for transmission line protection. The relay may maloperate in the case of a failure of the secondary circuit of a current transformer (CT) because the differential current is produced. This paper presents an algorithm to detect a failure of a CT using the zero-sequence current. If the magnitude of the zero-sequence current is the same as the magnitude of the current of the other healthy phases, a failure of a CT is detected and then the blocking signal is activated. The proposed algorithm prohibit the maloperation of a differential relay in the case of a CT failure and thus increase the security of the relay.
