Activation of Periodate by Freezing for the Degradation of Aqueous Organic Pollutants

<P>A new strategy (i.e., freezing) for the activation of IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP> for the degradation of aqueous organic pollutants was developed and investigated. Although the degradation of furfuryl alcohol (FFA) by IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP> was negligible in water at 25 °C, it proceeded rapidly during freezing at −20 °C. The rapid degradation of FFA during freezing should be ascribed to the freeze concentration effect that provides a favorable site (i.e., liquid brine) for the proton-coupled degradation process by concentrating IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>, FFA, and protons. The maximum absorption wavelength of cresol red (CR) was changed from 434 nm (monoprotonated CR) to 518 nm (diprotonated CR) after freezing, which confirms that the pH of the aqueous IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP> solution decreases by freezing. The degradation experiments with varying experimental parameters demonstrate that the degradation rate increases with increasing IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP> concentration and decreasing pH and freezing temperature. The application of the IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>/freezing system is not restricted to FFA. The degradation of four other organic pollutants (i.e., tryptophan, phenol, 4-chlorophenol, and bisphenol A) by IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>, which was negligible in water, proceeded during freezing. In addition, freezing significantly enhanced the IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>-mediated degradation of cimetidine. The outdoor experiments performed on a cold winter night show that the IO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>/freezing system for water treatment can be operated without external electrical energy.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Porosity Properties of the Conformers of Sodalite-like Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks

<P>The conformational isomers of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) can have their own unique porosity and structural stability. We report that a new sodalite-like ZIF (termed β-ZIF-65(Zn)) is polymorphous with as the existing ZIF-65(Zn) (Zn(nIm)<SUB>2</SUB>, nIm = 2-nitroimidazolate) but has a different linker conformation in the six-membered rings of sodalite cages. This conformational isomerism leads to distinctive permanent porosity for each conformer, which has been verified by gas adsorption measurements. In addition, variable-temperature X-ray diffraction analyses indicate that β-ZIF-65(Zn) is more resistant to displacive phase transitions than ZIF-65(Zn). The activated β-ZIF-65(Zn) conformer adsorbs 2.8 times more benzene than the activated ZIF-65(Zn) at <I>P</I>/<I>P</I><SUB>0</SUB> = 0.3 and 298 K. This work suggests that other types of ZIF conformers can be discovered.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
머신러닝 기반의 에너지 데이터와 개인정보 침해에 대한 상관관계 분석

본 논문에서는 스마트 미터를 통해 측정되는 에너지 데이터와 그에 따른 이용자들의 행동 패턴 데이터를 이용하여 이용자의 개인정보가 침해될 수 있음을 확인하는 분석을 제시하였다. 특정 공간에서 사용되는 다수 이용자의 에너지 데이터를 통하여 공간의 상주인원 유무에 대한 높은 정확도를 보이는 예측 기법을 제시하였고, 개별 사용자의 에너지 사용량 데이터를 이용하여 특정시간대에서의 특정 사용자의 상주유무에 대해서도 높은 정확도를 보이는 예측 기법을 제시하였다. 제안한 데이터 기반의 예측 모델링은 기존 연구들에서 사용된 6가지의 머신러닝 기법들을 통해서 정확도가 분석되었다. 실제 사용되어지고 있는 연구실 환경에서 수집된 2달 동안의 에너지 데이터와 사용자의 행동패턴 데이터를 이용하여 시뮬레이션 분석을 진행하였고, 사용된 기법 중 인공신경망을 기반으로 한 예측의 정확도가 제일 높았던 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to develop a measurement tool to assess students` decision-making styles in the bioethical issues. To develop the measurement tool, three areas and nine contents of bioethics were categorized from the literature review on bioethics. The areas of bioethics were `ethics of respect for life`, `biomedical ethics`, and `food, energy, and environment`. The area of `ethics of respect for life` included `respect for human life`, `respect for the life of animals`, and `respect for the life of plants`. The `biomedical ethics` area contained `birth`, `death`, and `treatment of diseases`. The area of `food, energy, and environment` was categorized into `food`, `energy` and `environment`. For these nine contents, nine multiple choice items were developed based on Harren`s (1979) decision-making styles.
