We present 10. R-band photometric observations of eight different transits of the hot Jupiter HAT-P-33b, which has been targeted by our Transiting Exoplanet Monitoring Project. The data were obtained by two telescopes at the Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC) from 2013 December through 2016 January, and exhibit photometric scatter of 1.6-3.0 mmag. After jointly analyzing the previously published photometric data, radial-velocity (RV) measurements, and our new light curves, we revisit the system parameters and orbital ephemeris for the HAT-P-33b system. Our results are consistent with the published values except for the planet to. star radius ratio (RP/R-*), the ingress/egress duration (tau) and the total duration (T-14), which together indicate a slightly shallower and shorter transit shape. Our results are based on more complete light curves, whereas the previously published work had only one complete transit light curve. No significant anomalies in Transit Timing Variations (TTVs) are found, and we place upper mass limits on potential perturbers, largely supplanting the loose constraints provided by the extant RV data. The TTV limits are stronger near mean-motion resonances, especially for the low-order commensurabilities. We can exclude the existence of a perturber with mass larger than 0.6, 0.3, 0.5, 0.5, and 0.3 M-circle plus near the 1: 3, 1: 2, 2: 3, 3: 2, and 2: 1 resonances, respectively.

Colchicine-induced polyploidization has been extensively utilized in plant-breeding programs to increase biomass and overall yield of various crop species. Chromosome doubling usually increases the plant size and cell size. However, the underly- ing mechanisms remain elusive. In this study, we showed that 0.1% colchicine is an optimized concentration for inducing tetraploidization of Actinidia chinensis var. chinensis ‘Hongyang’, a commercially important diploid kiwifruit cultivar. The tetraploid plants showed increased plant height, leaf size, and biomass, as compared with the corresponding diploid plants. Scanning electron microscopy and histological analysis indicated that the leaf cell size was significantly increased in the tetraploid plants. Our further transcriptome analysis revealed the 5922 differentially expressed genes between the diploid and tetraploid plants. Gene Ontology analysis enriched the cell wall-related genes, including the pectin methylesterases (PMEs) and expansins (EXPs), both of which play a critical role in cell wall loosening and extension. The increased expression of PME and EXP genes might contribute to the increased cell size in the tetraploid plants. Together, our work indicated that tetraploidization increases the organ and cell size in kiwifruit, possibly by enhancing the cell wall extensibility.

Soil salinization threats the agricultural productionand food security worldwide. Salt stress induced plantsenescence and chloroplast degradation. However, it remainslargely unknown how the chloroplast-localized proteins affectplant response to salt stress. Here, we characterized a novelgene (At5g39520) in Arabidopsis, which is induced by saltstress and encodes a chloroplast-localized protein. Thus, thisgene was named SALT-INDUCED CHLOROPLAST PROTEIN(SCP). A T-DNA insertion mutant of SCP gene (scp-1)showed the enhanced tolerance to salt stress, as indicated bythe increased survival rates, fresh weights and chlorophyllcontents compared with wild type plants under salt treatment. Salt-induced leaf senescence was also delayed in scp-1 mutant. The scp-1 complementation line and SCP overexpressionlines displayed the hypersensitivity to salt stress. The qRTPCRanalysis indicated that the transcripts of CHLOROPLASTVESICULATION (CV), which mediates stress-inducedchloroplast degradation, were altered in scp-1 mutant andSCP overexpression lines. Taken together, our results suggestthat SCP gene plays a negative role in response to salt stress andhas potential application for genetic modification of improvingplant tolerance to salt stress.
