        The Development of Multiple Talents: Conceptualization and Empirical Studies

        A 4-year joint research project(1999-2003), entitled "The Development of Multiple Talents(DMT)", has been designed and carrying out under the sponsorship of the National Science Council, R.O.C. (Taiwan). A 3-dimension construct is proposed for the DMT: form of talents (10 forms, mainly based on Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences), function of talents (3 functions, based on Sternberg's conception of successfulintelligence), and developmental stage (4 stages, from pre-school to senior high). To take an example of its empirical studies, Wu and Chien (2000), based on a renovated conception of personal intelligence, developed the "Personal Intelligence Inventory" (PII). By means of the PII, it was found that there were some personal intelligence differences between gifted and regular pupils; however, gifted group was not as superior as on academic performance to the regular one (Wu & Chien, 2000). It was also found that there were significant relationships between pupils' personal intelligence and school adjustment in both groups (Tsai & Wu, 2000).

        일반논문 : 抗戰時期吳鼎昌與州的經濟社會發展

        항전시기 오정창은 귀주성 정부 주석직을 7년간 맡아 보면서 다양한 정책을 통해 귀주의 발전을 촉진하였다. 위생 보건, 금연, 군사훈련, 그리고 체육 등의 분야에 많은 노력을 기울였으며, 인구의 증가와 의식 수준의 향상을 위해 노력하였다. 농업과 임업 목축업과 양잠업, 전기 및 광공업, 교통과 운수 등의 사업을 통해 귀주기업주식회사를 설하여 공업화의 길을 모색하였다. 현장(縣長)의 선발 과정과 조직 정비, 현 정부와 향진 간의 권리와 책임을 구분하여 기층의 민주 정치를 발전시켰다. 이러한 시책은 남경 국민정부의 통치를 옹호하는 것이었으며, 또한 귀주의 현대화를 추진함으로써 후방을 튼튼히 하여 항전의 승리에 일정 정도 공헌함으로써 새로운 정치학 체계의 정치적 주장과 역사적 가치를 잘 보여주고 있다. Wu Ding-chang had been undertaken the government chairman in Guizhou province for seven years during the Anti-Japanese War. He took some policies of sanitation, anti-smoking, military training and physical education to increase the population. At the same time, he also used methods of school education and administration training to enhance population`s quality. And he initiated a new path of industrialization by developing agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, raising silk worms, electricity, industry, mining and transportation and setting up Guizhou enterprise stock corporation. Moreover, he improved the methods of choosing the head of a county and ranks building, divided the rights and responsibilities between county and small towns and developed skeleton democratic politics. These policies impelled the economic and social modernization in Guizhou and made great contributions for consolidating Kuomintang-controlled areas and supporting the victory during the Anti-Japanese War.

      • Inclusive Education in Taiwan

        As an echo to the world-wide movement of inclusive education and because of the conviction of inclusive ideas, special education in Taiwan is moving toward a goal of inclusion, though not necessarily full inclusion. While its terminology is yet designated, principles and strategies are significantly reflected in the Special Education Act and regulations involved. Over the past decade, a number of inclusive programs have been developed and implemented first on experimental base and later as a regular schooling practice. Statistics indicated that the major options of placement for students with disabilities were regular class with special education services (the inclusive classes) and resource room programs (the integrative type). However, if they were receiving a proper and true inclusive education, there remains a question in terms of four indicators of inclusion, i.e., physical inclusion, psycho-social inclusion, curriculum/instructional inclusion, and support system. To date, inclusive education in Taiwan has achieved some outcomes and extended to senior high level; however, since it is still in a developing stage, it is also encountering many challenges, such as teacher's confidence and capability, curriculum's adaptation, peer acceptance, and supporting resources. The toughest challenge to deal with would be disruptive behaviors by students with disabilities. In sum, teachers' caring, capability and collaboration as well as a supporting environment are keys to success of inclusion, and there is plenty of room for improvement in theses regards.

        Feeder Reconfiguration Using Binary Coding Particle Swarm Optimization

        This paper proposes an effective approach based on binary coding Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to identify the switching operation plan for feeder reconfiguration. The proposed method considers the advantages and disadvantages of existing particle swarm optimization method and redefined the operators of PSO algorithm to fit the application field of distribution systems. Shift operator is proposed to construct the binary coding particle swarm optimization for feeder reconfiguration. A typical distribution system of Taiwan Power Company is used in this paper to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The test results show that the proposed method can apply to feeder reconfiguration problems more effectively and stably than existing method.

        통합교육의 전 세계적인 움직임에 대한 반향으로서 또한 통합 개념에 대한 확신을 가지고 대만의 특수교육은 반드시 완전통합은 아닐지라도 통합을 목적으로 움직이고 있다. 그 원리와 전략은 비록 용어가 명확하게 표시되어 있지 않을 지라도 특수교육법과 관련 규정에서 반영되고 있다. 과거 10년 동안에 수많은 통합 프로그램이 먼저 실험적 기초 위에서 개발되어 실행되었고, 이후에는 일반학교 교육 실제에서 실행되었다. 통계를 통해 특수교육 서비스를 받는 일반학급(통합학급)과 자료실 프로그램(통합된 유형)이 장애아에 대한 주요 배치임을 알 수 있다. 그러나 그들이 적절하고 진정한 통합교육을 받고 있는지의 여부는 통합에 대한 네 가지 지표(물리적 통합, 심리-사회적 통합, 교육과정/교육적 통합, 지원 시스템)를 고려할 때 의문으로 남는다. 최근까지 대만의 통합교육은 몇 가지 성과를 이루었다. 그러나 이것은 여전히 발달 단계에 있으며, 또한 교사의 자신감과 능력, 교육과정 수정, 또래수용, 지원적인 자원 등과 같은 많은 어려움에 직면하고 있다. 가장 다루기 어려운 것은 장애학생과 그들의 문제행동일 것이다. 요약해서, 교사의 돌봄, 능력과 협력뿐만 아니라 지원적 환경은 통합을 성공적으로 이끄는데 매우 중요한 요소들이며, 이러한 점에서 개선의 여지가 많이 남아 있다.         Expression of Bombyx mori Nucleopolyhedrovirus ORF4 under the Control of BaculoviruS Ie1 Promoter by a Novel Bac-to-Bac/BmNPV Baculovirus Expression System

        Open reading frame 4 of Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV), designated as Bm4, is a gene whose function is completely unknown. With the recently developed BmNPV bacmid and a modified pFastBac1 whose polyhedrin promoter was replaced with ie1 promoter, a recombinant bacmid expressing Bm4-EGFP fusion protein under the control of ie1 promoter in BmN cells was successfully constructed. The result not only showed that the polyhedrin promoter can be replaced efficiently with other promoters to direct the expression of foreign gene in BmN cells by using Bac-to-Bac/BmNPV baculovirus expression system but also laid the foundation for rescue experiment of Bm4 deletion mutant due to the ability of ie1 promoter to direct gene expression throughout the infection cycle.

      • Magnetic Resonance Image Manifestations of the Atypical Meningioma

        Through retrospective analysis of 13 cases of magnetic resonance image (MRI) manifestations of atypical meningiomas confirmed by operation and pathology in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University, the objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI in order to improve the accuracy rate of preoperative diagnosis. In this retrospective analysis of MRI findings for atypical meningiomas in First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University from January to July in 2012, the location, morphology and tumor signals and other tumor imaging characteristics were covered. In 13 cases of atypical meningioma patients of this group, most tumors were located at typical sites (10/13), mainly the falx cerebri, parasagittal, convexity, saddle area. Only two cases were at atypical locations, 1 in the cerebellar hemisphere and 1 in a lateral ventricle. Most of the tumors showed T1 and T2 isointensity signals, and necrosis, calcification, and peritumoral edema were always featured. DWI showed isointensity in 11 cases (11/13), and hyperintensity in 2. Some 9 cases had dural tail signs, 12 had accurate positioning (12/13), and 2 were postoperative recurrences. MRI has high value in the diagnosis of atypical meningiomas, with important roles in early clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis evaluation.
