Efficient photocatalytic removal of aqueous Cr(VI) by N-F-Al tri-doped TiO2

Shu Qin Wang,Yixiao Xie,Wei Liang Cheng,Jian Gao 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.9

As chromium is a common heavy metal contaminant in water, we have prepared N-F-Al tri-doped TiO2 catalyst for Cr(VI) removal under visible light. The sample was prepared via a sol-gel method and was characterized by XRD, BET, UV-vis DRS, XPS and SEM techniques. In the photocatalytic experiments, effects of Al/Ti ratio, F/Ti ratio, calcination temperature and different dopants were investigated. The optimum Al/Ti molar ratio, F/Ti ratio and calcination temperature proved to be 0.01, 0.1 and 500 oC, respectively, which is in accordance with the characterization analysis. Catalysts prepared under this condition showed a high photoactivity for Cr(VI) removal in water.

Enhanced photoactivity of N-doped TiO2 for Cr(VI) removal: Influencing factors and mechanism

Shu Qin Wang,Wen Bo Liu,Peng Fu,Wei Liang Cheng 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.5

To further enhance the photoactivity of virgin TiO2, we prepared N-doped TiO2 (N-TiO2) by sol-gel method and used it to remove Cr(VI) ions from water under visible light. The catalysts were characterized by TEM, XRD, BET and UV-vis techniques. Better crystalline structure, larger specific surface area and decreased band-gap width were obtained after the insertion of N atoms into TiO2 lattice. Several influencing factors were also investigated. The removal efficiency of Cr(VI) increases with the decrease of initial Cr(VI) concentration or the increase of catalyst dosage. Addition of glucose or some inorganic ions (Mg2+, Al3+) can promote the photoreduction process by improving the quantum efficiency. The kinetics and mechanism were discussed as well.

Influence of Preparation Conditions on the Formation of Copper (II) Architectures with Pyrazine-2,3,5-tricarboxylic Acid

        Wang, Feng-Qin,Lin, Shu,Guo, Ming-Lin,Xu, Jun-Jian,Wang, Xiao-Qing,Zhao, Yong-Nan Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.7

Three new metal-organic copper(II) complexes, $[Cu(H_2PZTC)_2]_n{\cdot}2nH_2O$ (1), $[Cu(HPZTC){\cdot}2H_2O]_n{\cdot}2nH_2O$ (2), and $Cu_2[(PZHD)(OH)(H_2O)_2]_n$ (3) ($H_3PZTC$ = pyrazine-2,3,5-tricarboxylic acid, $PZHD^{3-}$ = 2-hydroxypyrazine-3,5-dicarboxylate), have been synthesized from $Cu(II)/H_3PZTC$ system under different synthetic conditions, and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. In complexes 1 and 2, $H_3PZTC$ ligands loose one and two protons, which were transformed into $H_2PZTC^-$ anion and $HPZTC^{2-}$ dianion under different preparation condition, respectively. Furthermore, two ligands coordinate with Cu(II) cations in different modes, leading to the formation of the different chain structures. In complex 3, $H_3PZTC$ ligand was converted into a new ligand-PZHD by in situ decarboxylation and hydroxylation under a higher pH value than that for complexes 1 and 2. PZHD ligands link the Cu(II) cations to form a 2D layer structure. These results demonstrate that the preparation conditions, including pH value and reaction temperature etc, play an important role in the construction of complexes based on $H_3PZTC$ ligand.

Study on the mechanism of desulfurization and denitrification catalyzed by TiO2 in the combustion with biomass and coal

Shu Qin Wang,Ming-Zhu Liu,Li-Li Sun,Wei Liang Cheng 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.6

The effects of Ca/S molar ratio, catalyst type, catalyst dosage, temperature on desulfurization and denitrification efficiency were investigated in the coal-powder combustion with corn cobs as biomass. The thermal characteristics of Shanxi coal and corn cob blends with V-TiO2 were evaluated by thermogravimetric analyzer. The catalytic mechanisms of V-TiO2 on combustion, desulfurization and denitrification were discussed, suggesting that the mechanisms are in good agreement with the experimental data. The results show that the control parameters of the ideal desulfurization and denitrification efficiency should follow that the dosage of V-TiO2 catalyst is 8% with a Ca/S ratio of 2.3 at a treatment temperature 850 oC. Meanwhile, the combustion efficiency could be effectively improved with the mixture of corn cob and V-TiO2. The thermal characteristics of coal char and corn cob char blends with V-TiO2 were evaluated using thermogravimetric analysis and derivative thermogravimetry methods to discuss the heterogeneous NO reduction mechanisms. The results show that the biomass chars were more active than coal chars in reducing NO, and the specific surface area of the chars was increased with V-TiO2, which indicates that V-TiO2 exhibits significant influence on catalytic combustion, desulfurization and denitrification.

        Agile Networking in Smart Grids

Qin, Zhenquan,Zhang, Jianing,Shi, Liang,Wang, Lei,Shu, Lei,Guo, Yuquan The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2012 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.1 No.1

Recently, the smart grid (SG) has been introduced to solve the serious network issues caused by the increasing electrical demand and the complex nonlinear nature of the electric power distribution network. The SG, regarded as the next generation power grid, can transmit power in more efficient ways by building an automatic and distributed energy delivery network. In this paper, we first assess how various existing networking technologies, such as IEEE 802.11 (WiFi) and IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee), meet the requirements of the SG communication protocols. Specifically, we classify the existing network protocols into three categories: WSN-based networking, WiFi-based networking, and wireline-based networking. We then survey the security issues regarding the SG. Finally, we propose an agile SG networking architecture and show the effectiveness of different adopted networking technologies and, as a result, present a candidate solution to implement agile networking in SGs.

      • Interaction of Coping Styles and Psychological Stress on Anxious and Depressive Symptoms in Chinese Breast Cancer Patients

        Wang, Xi,Wang, Shu-Sen,Peng, Rou-Jun,Qin, Tao,Shi, Yan-Xia,Teng, Xiao-Yu,Liu, Dong-Gen,Chen, Wei-Qing,Yuan, Zhong-Yu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

Purpose: This study aimed to assess possible interactive effects of coping styles and psychological stress on depression and anxiety symptoms in Chinese women shortly after diagnosis of breast cancer. Methods: Four hundred and one patients with breast cancer were face-to-face interviewed by trained research staff according to a standardized questionnaire including information on socio-demographic characteristics, psychological stress, coping styles, and anxiety and depressive symptoms. Interactive effects were assessed by hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Results: There were significant associations of the four domains of psychological stress with anxiety and depressive symptoms except for the relationship between "worrying about health being harmed" and depressive symptoms. "Abreaction coping behavior" and "escaping coping behavior" significantly increased the level of both anxiety and depressive symptoms; whereas an "active coping style" reswulted in significant decrease. The interaction of "active coping behavior" with "worrying about health being harmed" significantly increased the risk of the anxiety symptoms, while adopting "self-relaxing coping behavior" was associated with significant decrease. The interaction of "worry about daily life and social relationship being restricted" with "escaping coping behavior" significantly increased the risk of the depressive symptoms. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that certain coping styles might moderate the association of psychological stress with anxiety and depressive symptoms in Chinese women with breast cancer.

Electroacupuncture Promotes Neural Proliferation in Hippocampus of Perimenopausal Depression Rats via Wnt/β-Catenin Signaling Pathway

        Qin Jing,Lu Ren,Xue Deng,Nan Zhang,Martin Fu,Ge Wang,Xi-Rong Jiang,Shu-Ru Lin,Cai-Rong Ming 사단법인약침학회 2020 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.13 No.3

Background and Objective: Perimenopausal depression is caused by the impaired function of the ovarium before menopause and with a series of symptoms. Electroacupuncture (EA) therapy has been demonstrated to improve clinically depression. However, the mechanism underlying its therapeutic activity remains unknown. This study aimed to investigat the effects of EA treatment on the hippocampal neural proliferation through Wnt signaling pathway. Methods: Chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) combined with bilateral ovariectomy (OVX) were used to establish a rat model of perimenopausal depression. The open field test (OFT) and sucrose preference test (SPT) were used to assess depression-like behaviors in rats. ELISAs were used to measure estrogen (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH) and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) levels in the serum. RT-PCR and Western blot assay were utilized for measuring the mRNA expressions and protein expressions of GSK-3β/β-catenin. Results: Four-week EA treatment at three points including “Shenshu” (BL23), “Baihui” (GV20) and “Sanyinjiao” (SP6) simultaneously ameliorated depression-like behaviors in rats with CUMS and OVX, whereas rescued the decreased serum level of E2 and prevented the increased serum levels of GnRH and LH. EA treatment ameliorated CUMS and OVX-induced alterations of glycogen synthase kinase-3b (GSK-3β) and β-catenin mRNA levels, β-catenin and phosphorylated β-catenin (p-β-catenin) protein levels. Conclusions: The results showed that EA treatment promoted hippocampal neural proliferation in perimenopausal depression rats via activating the Wnt/b-catenin signaling pathway, indicating that EA may represent an efficacious therapy for perimenopausal depression.

      • 4-(Methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone Induces Retinoic Acid Receptor β Hypermethylation through DNA Methyltransferase 1 Accumulation in Esophageal Squamous Epithelial Cells

Wang, Jing,Zhao, Shu-Lei,Li, Yan,Meng, Mei,Qin, Cheng-Yong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

Overexpression of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) has been detected in many cancers. Tobacco exposure is known to induce genetic and epigenetic changes in the pathogenesis of malignancy. 4-(Methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) is an important carcinogen present in tobacco smoke; however the detailed molecular mechanism of how NNK induces esophageal carcinogenesis is still unclear. We found that DNMT1 was overexpressed in ESCC tissues compared with paired non-cancerous tissues, the overexpression being correlated with smoking status and low expression of $RAR{\beta}$. The latter could be upregulated by NNK treatment in Het-1A cells, and the increased DNMT1 expression level reflected promoter hypermethylation and downregulation of retinoic acid receptor ${\beta}$($RAR{\beta}$). RNA interference mediated knockdown of DNMT1 resulted in promoter demethylation and upregulation of $RAR{\beta}$ in KYSE30 and TE-1 cells. 3-(4,5-Dimethyl-thiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and flow cytometric analysis demonstrated that NNK treatment in Het-1A cells could enhance cell proliferation and inhibit cell apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, DNMT1 overexpression is correlated with smoking status and low expression of $RAR{\beta}$ in esophageal SCC patients. NNK could induce $RAR{\beta}$ promoter hypermethylation through upregulation of DNMT1 in esophageal squamous epithelial cells, finally leading to enhancement of cell proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis.

      • Autophagy Involvement in Olanzapine-Mediated Cytotoxic Effects in Human Glioma Cells

Wang, Yi-Xuan,Xu, Shu-Qing,Chen, Xiang-Hui,Liu, Rui-Si,Liang, Zhong-Qin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of olanzapine on growth inhibition as well as autophagy in glioma cells in vitro and in vivo. The proliferation of both LN229 and T98 glioma cells, measured by MTT assay, was suppressed in a concentration-dependent and time-dependent manner. Moreover, apoptosis of both cells was significantly increased with the treatment of olanzapine as evidenced by increased Bcl-2 expression, Hoechst 33258 staining and annexinV-FITC/PI staining. Olanzapine treatment also enhanced activation of autophagy with increased expression of LC3-II, expression of protein p62, a substrate of autophagy, being decreased. The growth inhibition by olanzapine in both glioma cell lines could be blocked by co-treatment with 3-MA, an autophagy inhibitor. Furthermore, olanzapine effectively blocked the growth of subcutaneous xenografts of LN229 glioma cells in vivo. The increased level of protein LC3-II and decreased level of p62 followed by a decreased level of Bcl-2, suggesting that autophagy may contribute to apoptosis. In addition, reduced proliferation of glioma cells was shown by a decrease of Ki-67 staining and increased caspase-3 staining indicative of apoptosis in mouse xenografts. These results indicated that olanzapine inhibited the growth of glioma cells accompanied by induction of autophagy and apoptosis both in vitro and in vivo. Olanzapine-induced autophagy plays a tumor-suppressing role in glioma cells.
