Translation of Poetry: Towards a Practical Model for Translation Analysis and Assessment of Poetic Discourse

Hossein Vahid Dastjerdi,,Haadi Hakimshafaaii,Zahra Jannesaari 세종대학교 언어연구소 2008 Journal of Universal Language Vol.9 No.1

Among translation issues, poetry translation is the most problematic area challenging both translators and authorities in the field of translation studies. Translation of poetry as a yet unanalyzed ‘black box’ (Francis 2006) has been a much debated issue since olden times, with many pros and cons and dichotomist reasoning as to its possibility or impossibility. This is due to the high cultural prestige of poetry which requires time, effort and ingenuity to translate traditional rhyme, rhythm structures and the figurative language involved. In the present study, a Persian piece of poetry by the contemporary Iranian poet, Musavi Garmaroodi, A. (1984) and its English translation by Vahid, D. H. (2006) will be focused upon and descriptively analyzed at both linguistic and extra linguistic levels. 8 Towards a Practical Model for Translation Analysis and Assessment of Poetic Discourse The aim is to identify the formative elements of versified discourse in the source and target texts (ST/TT) and to arrive at a tentative model of translation analysis which can serve as a measure for translation assessment of poetic genre.

An efficient controlled elitism non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm for multi-objective supplier selection under fuzziness

        Vahid Hajipour,Madjid Tavana,Francisco J. Santos-Arteaga,Alireza Alinezhad,Debora Di Caprio 한국CDE학회 2020 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.7 No.4

Supplier selection and order allocation constitute vital strategic decisions that must be made by managers within supply chain management environments. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective fuzzy model for supplier selection and order allocation in a two-level supply chain with multi-period, multi-source, and multi-product characteristics. The supplier evaluation objectives considered in this model include cost, delay, and electronic-waste (e-waste) minimization, as well as coverage and weight maximization. A signal function is used to model the price discount offered by the suppliers. Triangular fuzzy numbers are used to deal with the uncertainty of delay and e-waste parameters while the fuzzy Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is used to obtain the weights of the suppliers. The resulting NP-hard problem, a Pareto-based meta-heuristic algorithm called controlled elitism non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (CENSGA), is developed. The Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II) and Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) are used to validate the applicability of the CENSGA algorithm and the Taguchi technique to tune the parameters of the algorithms. The results are analysed using graphical and statistical comparisons illustrating how the proposed CENSGA dominates NSGA-II and MOPSO in terms of mean ideal solution distance (MID) and spacing metrics.

RESEARCH : Open Access ; Effects of feed form and feed particle size with dietary L- threonine supplementation on performance, carcass characteristics and blood biochemical parameters of broiler chickens

        ( Vahid Rezaeipour ),( Sepideh Gazani ) 한국동물자원과학회(구 한국축산학회) 2014 한국축산학회지 Vol.56 No.20

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of form and particle size of feed supplemented with L- threonine on growth performance, carcass characteristic and blood biochemical parameters of broiler chickens. The experimental design was a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments evaluating two feed forms (pellet or mash), two feed particle sizes (fine or course), and two inclusion rates of dietary L-threonine (with or without) which adopted from 7 to 42 days of age. In this experiment, 360 a day old chicks in two sexes were assigned in each treatment and each experimental unit was included 15 chicks. Feed consumption and weight gain were measured weekly. At 35 days of age, blood samples were taken to analysis blood biochemical parameters. At the end of the experimental period, two birds were slaughtered in each treatment and carcass analysis was carried out. The results showed that the effect of feed form on body weight gain and feed intake in whole of experimental period was significant (P < 0.05). Broilers fed pelleted diets had more weight gain than the mash group. Growth performance parameters were not affected by feed particle size and dietary L-threonine supplementation in whole of experimental period (P > 0.05). The results of carcass analysis showed that liver and gizzard relative weights were influenced by feed form (P < 0.05). However, pancreas and liver relative weights were affected by feed particle size and dietary L-threonine supplementation, respectively (P < 0.05). Triglyceride and VLDL levels were affected by feed form and dietary L-threonine supplementation (P < 0.05). The effect of feed particle size on blood biochemical parameters was not significant (P > 0.05). In conclusion, the experimental results indicated that feed form increased feed consumption and weight gain in whole of experimental period (1 to 42 days of age) while feed particle size and dietary L-threonine had no effect on broiler performance.

Dexterity characterization of the RPR parallel manipulator based on the local and global condition indices

Vahid Rezania,Saeed Ebrahimi 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.1

In this paper, the kinematic performance of a planar parallel manipulator 3-RPR is investigated. Based on the constraint equations, robot geometric Jacobian matrix is calculated. Since the end-effector of the 3-RPR planar parallel manipulator performs both translational and rotational motions, robot geometric Jacobian matrix is transformed to a homogeneous form. This method defines a new Jacobian that transforms the linear velocities of two points on the end-effector to the actuator velocities. The velocity manipulability index is used for studying the ability of the manipulator to move. The manipulator distance singularity and kinematic accuracy is checked out by using the Local conditioning index (LCI) and Global conditioning index (GCI). The effect of Jacobian matrix homogenization on both the LCI and manipulability index is investigated in detail. Furthermore, the relation between LCI and the manipulability ellipsoids for certain moving platform orientations is studied. The paper is finally concluded by checking out the shapes of the manipulability ellipsoids for different moving platform orientations over the whole workspace.

Comparison of the effects of cereal and legume proteinaceous seed extracts on α-amylase activity and development of the Sunn pest

        Vahid Rahimi,Ali R. BANDANI 한국응용곤충학회 2014 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.17 No.1

The Sunn pest, Eurygaster integriceps Puton (Hemiptera: Scutelleridae), is a significant limiting factor in the productionofwheat and barley inmany areas of the world. In the current study, the effect of semi-purified proteinaceousextracts of seeds on digestive enzymes, and the growth and development of the Sunn pest were studied. The results showed that the purified α-amylase inhibitor from Triticum aestivum (type ) and rice semi-purifiedseed extract did not significantly affect the Sunn pest α-amylase activity. However, bean and cowpea seedextracts significantly affected α-amylase activity in vitro. For example, the bean seed extract at concentrationsof 0.125 and 2.0 mg · mL−1 inhibitedα-amylase activity of the pest by 15% and 45%, respectively, while the cowpeaseed extract, at the same concentrations, inhibited α-amylase activity of the pest by 9% and 40%, respectively. Further, incorporation of the seed extracts into the insect diet showed that the rice seed extract did not affect insectdevelopment time, while bean and cowpea seed extracts at high concentrations (e.g., 3.0%) significantly affectednymphal development time and survivability (P N 0.05). These results show that semi-purified seed extracts affectα-amylase activity, developmental time, and survivability but not the adult weight of the Sunn pest.

Shed-Snakeskin valorisation into highly porous Co-containing nanocomposites for sustainable aqueous C–C bond formation reactions

Vahid Khakyzadeh,Amir Ehsani,Rafael Luque 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.111 No.-

A novel highly ordered network based on shed snakeskin has been employed as a sustainable/naturaltemplate, to fabricate efficient heterogeneous cobalt composite as catalyst by a nano-casting process. Characterization of the Cobalt nano-catalyst was investigated by several analysis methods includingTEM, FESEM-EDS mapping, XRD, XPS, TGA, ICP, Raman, ATR, and N2 sorption and results verified thepreparation of a nano-catalyst with highly ordered perforated structure, uniform pore size distribution, high surface area, and high stability. The nano-cobalt particles were uniformly disposed on the supportwith a particle size of about 100 nm, validated by various analysis methods. The catalytic performance ofthe synthesized catalyst was evaluated in the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction for Csp2 –Csp2 bond formation in highyields (up to 97%) and excellent reactivity. The catalyst could also be recycled for at least 10 reaction runswithout almost losing its activity (less than 10% after 10 runs).

Stretchable Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Textile Using Conductive Polymers and Metal Nanoparticles

        Vahid Shakeri Siavashani,Nevin Cigdem Gursoy,Majid Montazer,Pelin Altay 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.10

In this research, multifunctional properties of cotton/lycra textiles coated with ternary composites of polypyrrole(PPy), silver nanoparticles (SNPs), and poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) (P-S-Pcomposites) is reported. FTIR spectroscopy, XRD and XPS surface analysis proved successful in situ polymerization of theP-S and also attaching the PEDOT:PSS onto the cotton/lycra surface. Morphological observations showed that coating thecotton/lycra textile with the P-S-P composites made a more compact layer on the surface. Surface topology showed that thePEDOT:PSS was able to fill the gaps between the P-S composites, thus making the surface smoother. Wettabilityinvestigations showed that considering the Wenzel theory, by increasing the density of the P-S coating, the hydrophobicity ofthe fabric increased but according to the smoother surface of the fibers after coating with PEDOT:PSS, the hydrophobicitywas slightly reduced. Due to filling the gaps on the surface and more compact layer, the P-S-P coated textile acted as anexcellent electromagnetic interference shield (SE≈40 dB) showed better electromagnetic absorption, reflection, and shieldingeffectiveness (SE) of about 40 %, 103 %, 115 % respectively than the P-S coated textile while the transmission decreased to35 %. Moreover, the treated textile had wonderful antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and negative bacteriaand also fungi. According to flexibility, high conductivity, and multifunctional property, the cotton/lycra knitted textilescoated with P-S-P could be very reliable to be used for developing smart textiles which are desirable for protective andmedical applications.
