Development of Koala Robot Capable of Expressing Various Kinds of Feelings

This paper describes the mechanism and the control system of a koala robot. It is extremely important for this kind of pet robot to be familiar with a human being. The robot can express various types of feelings by using body motions, eye motions, and sounds. It consists of 14 DOFs such as 2-DOF in the neck, and a 3-DOF in each leg. Its height is 233[mm], and its weight is 2.24[kg]. Several types of sensors and devices such as LED modules are attached to the head, the face, and the body to express many different types of emotions. Various emotional expression experiments were conducted and evaluated on the basis of questionnaires made by nineteen subjects. As a result, the effectiveness of the mechanism and the control of the robot were verified.

Based on the atomistic tight-binding method with intra-atomic spin-orbit coupling, we study computationally the effect of atomic scale interface asymmetry on the spin-polarization of transmission peaks through InAs/AlSb double barrier resonant tunneling heterostructures. Our calculations show the significant anisotropic zero-magnetic-field spin-splitting of the resonant transmission peak even in the absence of the external electric field, demonstrating the importance of the barrier material and the atomic scale detail of the hetero interfaces on the spin-splitting. Moreover, our calculations have predicted that such interface induced anisotropy of the spin-splitting can be cancelled out by applying the external electric field, leading to the Dresselhaus-type isotropic spin-splitting behavior.

This study investigated the influences of the addition of lactic acid bacteria inoculants and an enzyme during the crush processing of com silage on the nutritive value, nutrient intake and aerobic deterioration. The fermentation quality of the silages showed that although all of the silages were of good quality, the V-score of U was 91.0 points and significantly lower than those of other silages (P<0.01). On the chemical composition of silages, the crude protein concentration of U was 7.1%DM and significantly lower than those of other silages (P<0.05). On the digestibility, the nutritive value and nutrient intake did not significantly differ among the silages examined. After silo opening, a rapid rise in heat was seen from the 6th after opening for 11C38 and SLA, and from the 9th in U and SL, respectively.
캄보디아 대학생의 대학생활 경험이 학업성취에 미치는 영향 분석

본 연구에서는 캄보디아 대학생의 학업성취 수준과 대학생활 경험 수준을 살펴보고, 대학생활 경험이 학업성취에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 하였다. 캄보디아 프놈펜에 소재한 대학(5개교)의 재학생 524명을 대상으로 ‘대학생 경험 척도(College Student Experiences Questionnaire; CSEQ)’ 문항을 활용하여 설문조사를 실시하였고, 자료의 분석에는 위계적 회귀분석을 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 대학생의 ‘컴퓨터 및 인터넷 이용(Computer and Information Technology)’, ‘교과목학습(Course Learning)’, ‘동아리 및 학생모임(Club and Organization)’ 경험이 학업성취에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 주요 연구 결과를 바탕으로 도출한 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학은 학생들이 컴퓨터와 인터넷을 용이하게 활용할 수 있도록 관련 인프라의 구축을 확대할 필요가 있고, 학생들의 정보통신기술(Information and Communication Technologies; ICT) 소양을 함양할 수 있는 관련 프로그램을 마련해야 한다. 둘째, 대학 강의의 질을 향상시키고자 하는 대학 차원의 노력이 필요하다. 마지막으로 학생들의 동아리 및 학생모임에의 참여가 학업성취의 향상과 연계될 수 있는 방안을 마련할 필요가 있다. The purpose of this study was to examine the academic achievement and college life experience of students in Cambodia and to analyze the effects of college life experiences on academic achievement of college students in Cambodia. The questionnaire survey was conducted using the ‘College Student Experiences Questionnaire (CSEQ)’ questionnaire of 524 students from five universities in the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study showed that the experiences of college students ‘Computer and Information Technology’, ‘Course Learning’, ‘Club and Organization’ had positive effects on academic achievement. The implications of this study are as follows: First, colleges have to install more infrastructure for students to easily use computers and the Internet inside the school, and to provide programs to develop ICT skills to all students. Second, college-based efforts are needed to improve the quality of lectures for providing the students’ knowledge and skills. Third, students’ club and organization participation should be set up in college to find ways to improve students’ academic achievement.

Pulse oximeter is a noninvasive equipment for monitoring of arterial oxygen saturation (SaO_(2)), and commonly utilize a transmittance sensor on peripheral locations of the body. In this study, A new reflectance pulse oximeter sensor (RPS) was developed as a part of the multi sensor system which intends to monitor physiological data from mouth. The RPS consists of a photodiode (PD) and two light emitting diodes (LEDs) of which wavelengths are 660 and 940nm. Elastic gum optical shield (GOS) and reflectance optical shield (ROS) were also used to improve stability and signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of the sensor. The RPS was evaluated by breath holding experiment, and it showed good correlation with SaO_(2) measured from ear-lobe by using conventional transmittance sensor. The result indicates that the RPS is available to measure SaO_(2) from mouth and can use for monitoring of physical condition.

We study electron-spin relaxation induced by Mn spins and eects of LO-phonon scattering in CdMnTe quantum wells, where Mn contents of 3.6 and 5.0 at% are examined. By using pump-probe absorption a under magnetic eld, the time constant of the electron-spin relaxation e is deduced as a function of the magnetic eld. Values of e under magnetic elds are ve times dierent between both the Mn contents, while those at 0 T re ect the Mn content. The latter fact for the spin-relaxation times at 0 T shows that the electron-spin relaxation is induced by Mn spins via the s-d exchange interaction. However, the former signicant dierence in e suggests that the number of eective Mn spins involved in the electron-energy relaxation is greatly dierent in the spin-relaxation between the spin-splitting electron levels under dierent magnetic elds. The eects of LO-phonon scattering on the electron-spin relaxation are observed when the spin-splitting is close to the one-LO-phonon energy, indicating an eective path of the electron-spin relaxation involving both the LO phonon and the Mn spins. The objective of this study was evaluated the influences of the nitrogen fertilization level on timothy silage fermentation quality, nutritive value, and nutrient intake. In both the first and second crops, high level nitrogen fertilization (H) led to a lower WSC content and higher CP content than standard nitrogen fertilization (S). The silage fermentation quality was good in the presence of a Lactobacillus inoculant (SI and HI) than uninoculant (SC and HC). In the first crop silage, the TDN content and intake were significantly higher (P<0.01) for HI than for SI. In the second silage, the DM, DE, and TDN intakes did not significantly differ among the 4 treatments.

MUBEX (MUtsu Bay sea surface temperature validation EXperiment) is a Japan-UK joint research project for accuracy validation of sea surface temperature observed by satellite and investigating into the physical behavior of heat exchange at the ocean surface. In MUBEX observation campaign, sea skin temperature was extensively observed by a thermal infrared camera (TIC). The total number of the image collected in the MUBEX/96 campaign was about 50,000 frames, which provided various aspects of sea skin temperature behaviorism. The distribution pattern of sea skin temperature changes depending upon sun shine, cloud and wind. In this paper, we will introduce the outline of MUBEX and describes the results of early stage of TIC image analyses concerned with sea skin temperature observation.
