Biological control agents are vital components of an integrated pest management strategy, and this is frequently referred to as natural control. Natural enemies of insect pests include predators, parasitoids, and pathogens. Among them, a parasitoid, Chelonus blackburni (Cameron), was found to be the best biological control agent for the polyphagous pest, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner). C. blackburni alters the feeding performance of H. armigera larvae upon parasitism and as a result severely affects growth and development. Moreover, it shortens the feeding period of H. armigera and increases mortality. Furthermore, total hemocyte count (THC) was significantly decreased in parasitized larvae than control. Parasitized H. armigera had 26% less number of blood cells compared to healthy larvae. Histological studies showed that the structure of midgut of H. armigera is drastically affected by C. blackburni leading to reduced food consumption, which ultimately led to larval death. The present study provides an insight to changes involved in H. armigera due to parasitism by C. blackburni, a parasite that could be used as an effective biocontrol agent to manage H. armigera.

A series of isatin derivatives, 1-butyl-5/7-chloro/fluoro-3-((4-methoxybenzyl)imino)indolin-2-ones (3a-d), 6-butyl-chloro/fluoro-6H-indolo[2,3-b]quinoxalines (4a-h), and 5/7-chloro/fluoro-3-((4-methoxybenzyl)imino)indolin-2-ones (5a-h) were synthesized and characterized by using Fourier transform (FT)-IR, (1)H- and (13)C-NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometric and elemental analysis. The substances were further subjected to in vitro cytotoxicity evaluation against HeLa, SK-BR-3, and MCF-7 cells. The results showed that quinoxalines 4d, 4e, and 4g; and indolin-2-one 5f display significant in vitro cytotoxic activities against HeLa cells and further the compound 4d has resulted in highest cytotoxicity in the entire series studied. In addition, 5f was shown to display substantial activity against all the three cell lines used in the current study.

A new species of trapdoor spider, Heligmomerus maximus sp. nov. is described from southern Western Ghats of Kerala state, India. The new species differs from known species of the genus from India and Sri Lanka in possessing a band of thorn-like spinules on coxa IV. Moreover it is the largest species of the genus with adult females reaching a length up to 32 mm and the burrows are shallow compared with other species of the genus.

Mutations in the DNMT3A and IDH genes represent the most common genetic alteration after FLT3/NPM1 in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We here analyzed the frequency and distribution pattern of DNMT3A and IDH mutations and their associations with other molecular markers in normal karyotype AML patients. Fortyfive patients were screened for mutations in DNMT3A (R882), IDH1 (R132) and IDH2 (R140 and R172) genes by direct sequencing. Of the 45 patients screened, DNMT3A and IDH mutations were observed in 6 (13.3%) and 7 (15.4%), respectively. Patients with isolated DNMT3A mutations were seen in 4 cases (9%), isolated IDH mutations in 5 (11.1%), while interestingly, two cases showed both DNMT3A and IDH mutations (4.3%). Nucleotide sequencing of DNMT3A revealed missense mutations (R882H and R882C), while that of IDH revealed R172K, R140Q, R132H and R132S. Both DNMT3A and IDH mutations were observed only in adults, with a higher frequency in males. DNMT3A and IDH mutations were significantly associated with NPM1, while trends towards higher coexistence with FLT3 mutations were observed. This is the first study to evaluate DNMT3A/IDH mutations in Indian patients. Significant associations among the various molecular markers was observed, that highlights cooperation between them and possible roles in improved risk stratification.

Novel phosphorylated derivatives of ribavirin 5-16 were synthesized by the reaction of 4-nitrophenyl phosphorodichloridate with various amino acid esters in the presence of triethylamine in dry tetrahydrofuran through the intermediates 3. On further reaction of 3 with ribavirin in THF and pyridine in the presence of TEA afforded the title compounds 5-16. Their structures were characterized by IR, $^1H$, $^{13}C$, $^{31}P$ NMR and mass spectral analyses. All the title compounds were found to exhibit potent in vitro anticancer activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines.

A new diplurid genus and species is described from northeast India based on a single female specimen from Jampui hills. Orientothele gen. nov. is placed in the subfamily Diplurinae based on the presence of one row of teeth on the chelicerae. The new genus and species can be diagnosed from most diplurid genera in lacking lyra on the prolateral face of maxilla, paired claw with one row of teeth, maxilla with numerous cuspules, scopulae absent on all legs, and spermathecae consisting of two elongate stalks with bulbous receptacles at their tips which are bent inwards. Ischnothele indicola Tikader, 1969 is here treated as incertae sedis with regards to its generic placement in light of the discovery of Orientothele gen. nov.
