        이상설 : 한국 근대수학교육의 아버지

        본 논문은 한국수학사에서 연구와 정리가 취약한 시기인 근대수학의 도입기를 조사하면서, 그 근대수학의 도입기에서 만나게 되는 인물인 이상설(李相卨)에 대한 조명을 시도한다. 시대적 상황이 모든 분야의 침체기를 가져온 구한말 이상설은 근대수학에서 당대를 대표하는 높은 학식을 쌓고 뛰어난 재능을 보여주었다. 그간 이상설에 대해 '근대수학교육의 아버지'라는 평가가 없지 않았음에도 불구하고 낯설게 느껴진다면, 그것은 그가 독립운동가로만 강하게 각인된 탓일 것이다. 하지만 그는 19세기말 조선 근대수학의 첫 번째 교과서 편저자이자 수학교사이기도 했음을 새겨둘 필요가 있다. 대유학자이면서도 선구적으로 외국어와 서양과학 특히 근대 서양수학을 이해한 면모는 한국이 배출한 천재 중 하나라는 평가가 결코 과장이 아님을 보여준다. 이에 본 논문에서는 한국 근대수학교육에 커다란 기여를 한 인물인 이상설의 교육과 학문 및 실천업적을 조명한다. 보재 이상설이 1886년경에 쓴 책 <수리>와 최초로 수학과 과학을 관립교육기관의 교육과정에 편성한 과정, 최초의 근대수학교과서로 여겨지는 <산술신서>의 발간, 민족교육기관인 '서전서숙'의 설립 및 운영을 포함한 보재의 업적을 한국수학사 관점에서 조명한다. 또한 <산술신서>의 목차와 구체적인 내용 및 1901년에 출간된 <신정산술>의 내용을 소개하고, 지금까지 부정확하게 알려진 <수리>와 <산술신서>에 관한 몇 가지 역사적 사실을 발굴하여 재조명한다. Most who have heard of Sang-Seol Lee know him for his contribution to the Korean independence movement nearly a hundred years ago. This paper, however, will discuss Lee's other great contribution to his country; that of being "The father of modern mathematical education in Korea". Lee passed the rigorous government officer examination with the highest honor and became a teacher for the royal prince. Later he became the president of Sunkyunkwan, a national institute of higher learning since 1398, and eventually a well-known university bearing the same name. Lee was also a highly regarded Confucian scholar and well versed in foreign languages. He wanted Korea to become a modern country and felt that the areas of science and engineering were studies that needed improving in order to achieve modernization. While researching Western textbooks on the subjects he realized that Western mathematics would be especially important for Korea. With that, it became his mission to integrate Western mathematics into the Korean educational system. This paper will explain the importance of Sang-Seol Lee's contributions to mathematic education in Korea and how it helped Korea become the modern nation it is today.

        동은(東隱) 설석철(薛石鐵)의 전통목가구에 관한 연구

        Furniture is very important in our lives. Especially traditional wood furniture of Korea has been developed practically in the area of form, compositions, manufacturing technique and etc because of the rapid environmental changes. Jang Sung has a very efficient geographical characters to get the adequate timbers for furniture. And the late Mr Seol SeokCheol had devoted all his life to out-and-out artisan spirit for the purpose of korean wood furniture manufacturing. In this paper, l try to explain regional and cultural characteristics of JS, special designs for wood furniture of JS, manufacturing process of traditional wood furniture, especially in the center of his works. Tradition is an essential power to a country and a race. Now we are living living in the state-of-art age and we share all the cultures and merchandise globally but nevertheless, a nation and a race who has a unique tradition is still a cultural advanced country and these works of our ancestors are the best souvenir for the tourists. So we have to memorize these facts and we will have to raise and develop our power of traditional cultures, including from the traditional wood furniture.

      • 참여적 학점제도의 학습량에 대한 효과성 분석

        참여적 학점제도가 학생들에게 공부하도록 하는 동기를 부여하고 또한, 학습량을 증가 시킨다는 것은 여러 연구에서 입증되어 왔다. 특히 최근에 Seol(2006)은 참여적 학점제도를 개발하고 설계하는 체계적 방법론을 소개하였다. 그는 이러한 학점제도 운영이 학생들의 학습 의욕 및 학습량을 증가시킬 수 있다고 주장하였다. 이 논문에서는 경영학과 초급과목의 data를 이용하여 참여적 학점제도가 학생들의 학습량에 미치는 효과를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 이 논문의 결과 역시 학생들이 학점의 결정 요인 및 제도를 만드는데 참여하는 학점제도가 학습량을 늘릴 수 있는 가능성이 있다는 것을 보여주었다. Previous research has shown that participative approaches increase students` motivation which, in turn, increases effort. Recently Seol (2006) introduced a systematic approach to develop and design a participative course g r a m system He argues that implementing such a participative system can help students improve their motivation and effort. This paper empirically evaluates the impact of a participative course grading policy on students` effort for lea-in an introductory accounting class. Fifty eight introductory accounting students from two introductory accounting courses participated in the study. The results suggest that participation in designing a grading policy has the potential to increase students` effort.

        Nano-Design of 3D Electrodes for Highly Efficient Quantum Dot-Sensitized Solar Energy Conversion

        <P>Efficient quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) using nano-designed 3D nanostructures for use in both the counter electrode and the photoelectrode by combining 1D and 2D nanostructures were developed. New counter electrodes were fabricated by depositing noble metal nanoparticles onto a 3D carbon support composed of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO). The combination of CNTs and RGO in a 3D support maximized the surface area on which nanosized catalysts could be dispersed and facilitated mass transport of the redox couples. The high conductivities of carbon created a fast charge carrier transport channel that could supply electrons to the catalysts. Noble metal nanoparticles were immobilized on the 3D carbon support to act as highly active reaction sites for polysulfide reduction. The carbon support minimized the use of noble metals, and enhanced the electrode stability. A combination of 1D nanowires and 2D nanosheets was used to create 3D ZnO nanostructural scaffolds onto which quantum dot could be loaded for use in a photoelectrode. The nanowires provided direct electrical pathways to the bottom electrode and facilitated photogenerated charge collection. The nanosheet-structured branches provided an additional surface area for quantum dot loading. QDSSCs exhibited a remarkably high power conversion efficiency of 5.90% and enhanced photochemical stability.</P>

        INTEGER MATRICES WITH PRESCRIBED PERMANENT AND ITS APPLICATIONS

        In this paper, we construct a procedure of Maple programming for (0, 1)-matrix with a prescribed permanent, $1,2,...,2^{n-1}$. An application of such construction is given, and we obtain the some results of (0, 1)-matrices with the permanent less than or equal to n! by replacing elements 0's by 1's.

        The permanent of the m-by-n matrix A is the sum of all possible products of m elements from A with the property that the elements in each of the products lie on different lines of A. This scalar valued function of the matrix A occurs throughout the combinatorial literature in connection with various enumeration and extremal problems. In this note, we show the construction of (0, 1)-matrices with a prescribed permanent, 1, 2, ... , 2^(n-1).

      • Vertically stacked thin triboelectric nanogenerator for wind energy harvesting

        Wind has come to be considered as an attractive energy source due to its abundance, ubiquity, and sustainability in nature. When an energy harvester driven by wind is miniaturized with high-power and robustness, it can be useful for self-powered systems of mobile electronic devices. In this work, a vertically stacked triboelectric nanogenerator (VS-TENG) is investigated. When wind is introduced into the air gap of the VS-TENG, a thin and flexible polymer membrane repeatedly comes in contact with and separates from upper and lower electrodes. This thin device structure makes the VS-TENG suitable for vertical stacking without bulky volume. Vertical stacking not only provides multiplied output power via parallel stacking but also enables utilization of bi-directional wind by a cross stack.

      • Hybrid porphyrin-silicon nanowire field-effect transistor by opto-electrical excitation.

        <P>A porphyrin-silicon nanowire (Si-NW) hybrid field-effect transistor is introduced. The hybrid device has separate electrical and optical gates surrounding the Si-NW channel. Porphyrin, a component of chlorophyll, is employed as an optical gate to modulate the potential of the Si-NW channel. Due to the independently formed hybrid gates, both optical and electrical excitation can effectively modulate the device. The exposed porphyrin optical gate responds to the optical excitation, and independently formed electrical gates respond to the electrical excitation. Charge transfer characteristics between a semiconductor channel and the porphyrin optical gate are deeply investigated. Optical, electrical, and opto-electrical excitation methods are employed to analyze the charging and discharging behaviors. Of these methods, opto-electrical excitation enables the strongest charge transfer because the inversion electron formation by an electrical pulse and the photoinduced charge transfer by an optical stimulus are affected simultaneously. Discharging processes, such as rapid discharging, exponential detrapping, and the formation of metastable states are also analyzed.</P>

        A nanoforest structure for practical surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrates

        <P>A nanoforest structure for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active substrates is fabricated and analyzed. The detailed morphology of the resulting structure can be easily controlled by modifying the process parameters such as initial gold layer thickness and etching time. The applicability of the nanoforest substrate as a label-free SERS immunosensor is demonstrated using influenza A virus subtype H1N1. Selective binding of the H1N1 surface antigen and the anti-H1 antibody is directly detected by the SERS signal differences. Simple fabrication and high throughput with strong in-plane hot-spots imply that the nanoforest structure can be a practical sensing component of a chip-based SERS sensing system.</P>
