        Inhibition of Microcystis aeruginosa by the Extracellular Substances from an Aeromonas sp

        Growth of Microcystis aeruginosa could be inhibited significantly within 24 h by the extracellular substances prepared from Aeromonas sp. strain FM. During the treatment, the concentration of extracellular soluble carbohydrates increased significantly in algal culture. Morphological and ultrastructural changes in M. aeruginosa cells, including breakage of the cell surface, secretion of mucilage, and intracellular disorganization of thylakoids, were observed. HPLC-MS analysis showed that the extracellular substances of Aeromonas sp. strain FM were a mixture of free amino acids, tripeptides, and clavulanate. Among these, the algaelysis effects of lysine and clavulanate were confirmed.

        Mineralogy and isotope geochemical characteristics for Xiaozhen copper deposit, Langao County, Shaanxi Province and their constraint on genesis of the deposit

        The Xiaozhen copper deposit is a typical deposit in the North Daba Mountain area polymetallic metallogenic belt. With the exception of geological prospecting research, however, few studies have been reported on the genesis of the deposit. This paper focuses on the mineralogical and isotope geochemical characteristics for the Xiaozhen copper deposit. Detailed field-work and microscope observations suggest that the ore’s structural fabric and mineral assemblages feature a medium–low-temperature hydrothermal pattern of metallogeny. The results of electron microprobe analysis indicate that chalcopyrite atomic ratio ΣMe/S = ~0.95–1.03, which suggests that they may not be of sedimentary origin. In addition, the S content of the pyrite is from 50.57 wt% to 53.16 wt% that is less than standard the value of 53.45 wt%, the Fe/S value is from 0.878 to 0.955, and the Ni content in pyrite is high even up to 0.38 wt%. These results, combined with Ni-Co graphic projection, indicate that the pyrite is of magmatic hydrothermal origin. Moreover, most of the sphalerites contain Se, and their calculated w(FeS) content ranging from 4.60 wt% to 10.37 wt% suggest magmatic origin and a formation temperature of approximately 300 °C. Further, the content of χ(Fe) is from 46.55 wt% to 46.97 wt% for pyrrhotites, suggesting they are clino-pyrrhotites. This result, combined with mineral assemblages and the Fe-S system diagram, indicates a mineralization temperature of approximately 310 °C. The δ34S values of the sulfide range from 2.6‰ to 11.5‰, indicating multisource properties. The 208Pb/204Pb has wider ratios (~38.897–39.918), reflecting that they contain abundant radiogenic lead. The Pb isotope tectonic setting and genetic classification plot show that the ore lead was provided mainly by the upper crust in addition to a few magma materials. The analytical results of fluid inclusions in the chalcopyrite show that the 3He/4He ratios are ~0.268–0.326 R/Ra, which is higher than the crustal ratios but grossly lower than that of the mantle fluid and that the 40Ar/36Ar ratios are higher than the argon isotopic composition of the atmosphere. Moreover, the He-Ar isotope system suggests that the source of the ore-forming fluids is predominantly meteoric low-temperature underground water, with a small amount of mantle fluid. In summary, this study has determined that the Xiaozhen copper deposit is a medium-temperature magmatic hydrothermal deposit. This finding is combined with metallogenic age to briefly describe the mineralization process.

      • Process and product innovarions in vertically differentiated markets with network externalities

        We analyze product and process innovations in a vertically differentiated duopoly in market with externalities. Through assuming process innovation reduces marginal cost and product innovation improves product quality, we find that;(i) product and process innovations are complements (resp.substitutes) for the firm with low (resp. high) quality when the intensity of network externality is small; (ii) process innovation affects product innovation more intensely when exists network externality than not;(iii) network externality makes process R&D (resp. aggregate process R&D) outcome affected by the parameter of product innovation cost ;(iv) aggregate process R&D outcome in industry increases with network intensity; (v) the firm with higher initial efficiency invests more in process innovation and will obtain more demand and profit than the rival in equilibrium.

        Synthesis and characterization of magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers for enrichment of sanguinarine from the extraction wastewater of M. cordata

        A novel and efficient pretreatment method is proposed for the enrichment of sanguinarine (SA) from the extraction wastewater of Macleaya cordata (Willd) R. Br. using magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) as solid phase adsorbent. The obtained MMIPs were synthesized by molecular imprinted technology and were well characterized with TEM, FT-IR, XRD, TGA, and VSM. The adsorption capacity and selectivity of MMIPs were also investigated. The results showed that the obtained MMIPs were core–shell spherical morphologies with an average diameter of 300 nm. The adsorption experiments showed that the MMIPs exhibited an almost three times higher adsorption capacity towards SA (Qmax = 12.24 mg/g) than magnetic molecularly non-imprinted polymers (MNIPs) (Qmax = 4.15 mg/g). The calculated parameters of adsorption isotherms and kinetics suggested that the adsorption process matched the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics model. The thermodynamic parameters were calculated, indicating that the adsorption process was spontaneous (ΔG298K = −3.24 kJ/mol). The selectivity experiment showed that the MMIPs displayed higher selective adsorption capacity for SA compared to its reference compounds. Moreover, the MMIPs were applied to enrich SA from the extraction wastewater of M. cordata. The proposed method could provide an effective, simple and environmentally friendly way to identify and enrich SA from the extraction wastewater of M. cordata.

      • Effect of Viscosity on the Microformability of Bulk Amorphous Alloy in Supercooled Liquid Region

        Previously published results have shown that viscosity greatly influences on the deformation behavior of the bulk amorphous alloy in supercooled liquid region during microforming process. And viscosity is proved to be a component of the evaluation index which indicating microformability. Based on the fluid flow theory and assumptions, bulk amorphous alloy can be regarded as the viscous materials with a certain viscosity. It is helpful to understand how the viscosity plays an important role in viscous materials with various viscosities by numerical simulation on the process. Analysis is carried out by linear state equation in FEM with other three materials, water, lubricant oil and polymer melt, whose viscosities are different obviously. The depths of the materials flow into the U-shaped groove during the microimprinting process are compared in this paper. The result shows that the deformation is quite different when surface tension effect is not considered in the case. With the lowest viscosity, water can reach the bottom of micro groove in a very short time. Lubricant oil and polymer melt slower than it. Moreover bulk amorphous alloys in supercooled liquid state just flow into the groove slightly. Among the alloys of different systems including Pd-, Mg- and Zr-based alloy, Pdbased alloy ranks largest in the depth. Mg-based alloy is the second. And Zr-based alloy is the third. Further more the rank order of the viscosities of the alloys is Pd-, Mg- and Zr-based. It agrees well with the results of calculation. Therefore viscosity plays an important role in the microforming of the bulk amorphous alloy in the supercooled liquid state.

      • Analysis of Death Causes of In-patients with Malignant Tumors in Sichuan Cancer Hospital of China from 2002 to 2012

        Objectives: To analyze underlying disease, fatality rate and the major causes of death of in-patients with malignant tumors in Sichuan Cancer Hospital. Methods: Clinical data of in-patients from 2002 to 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The top 10 tumors (82.0%of the total) of the malignant tumors of the in-patients were lung, cervical, esophagus, breast, colorectal, nasopharynx, liver and gastric cancers, lymphomas and ovarian cancers. The overall fatality rate was 2.7% during these eleven years, 3.4% and 2.0% for male and females, respectively with statistical significance for the difference (${\chi}^2$=164.737, P<0.001). The top 10 death causes were lung cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, esophagus cancer, gastric cancer, lymphoma, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer and nasopharynx cancer. In-patients with pancreatic cancer had the highest fatality rate (9.6%). There were different ranks of death causes in different sex groups and age groups. Conclusion: Prevention and control work of cancer should be enhanced not only for cancers with high incidence such as lung cancer, esophageal cancer but also for the cancers which have low incidence but high fatality rate, such as pancreatic cancer and gallbladder cancer, which would help to improve the survival rate and quality of life of cancer patients in the future.

        Comparative analysis of metabolites and in vitro hypoglycemic activity of Taiwanofungus camphoratus cultured using various methods

        Taiwanofungus camphoratus has attracted much attention because it can abundantly produce various active substances that exhibit blood-sugar lowering, immunity improving, and antioxidant properties. Currently, T. camphoratus is cultured using four main methods: cutting wood culture, solid-state fermentation, submerged fermentation, and dish culture. T. camphoratus produces different metabolites under different culture methods. In this study, nontargeted metabolomics was used to compare the metabolites of T. camphoratus produced under these four culture methods. Principal component analysis and supervised partial least squares-discriminant analysis were used to analyze the differences in the metabolites. Moreover, in vitro hypoglycemic activity of T. camphoratus extracts produced under four culture methods was compared by assessing their ability to inhibit the activity of α-glucosidase, α-amylase, and sucrase. A total of 186 metabolites were identified. In total, 127 metabolites were common under the four culture methods. Under solid-state fermentation, submerged fermentation, and cutting wood culture, 12, 1, and 4 metabolites were unique, respectively. The differential metabolites produced by T. camphoratus under four culture methods were mainly triterpenoids, phenolic compounds, and fatty acid compounds. α-glucosidase, α-amylase, and sucrase activity inhibition was the best using T. camphoratus extract obtained under cutting wood culture; the inhibition rates were 55.97%, 51.96%, and 78.02%, respectively, which were comparable to those exhibited by 0.001, 3, and 12 mg/mL acarbose (positive control). The metabolites produced by T. camphoratus and α-glucosidase, α-amylase, and sucrase inhibitory activities were different under the four culture methods. Cutting wood culture exhibited the best enzyme inhibitory activity. This study provided a theoretical basis for further use and development of various culture methods for the rational production of active metabolites of T. camphoratus .         Effect of Zanthoxylum alkylamides on glucose metabolism in streptozotocin‑induced diabetic Sprague–Dawley rats

        This research aimed at investigating the hypoglycemic effect of Zanthoxylum alkylamides and whether TRPV1 receptor could participate in the glucose metabolism by using streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model. The results showed that the blood glucose measured in the Zanthoxylum alkylamides treated group (ALK) showed significantly lower values than that in the model group (Model). Significant improvements in the oral glucose tolerance as well as plasma insulin and hepatic glycogen were also observed in the ALK group, when compared to the model group. However, the improving effects of Zanthoxylum alkylamides on glucose metabolism disorder in diabetic rats were markedly inhibited by capsazepine as the TRPV1 receptor antagonist. In addition, there were significant differences in the levels of mRNA and protein of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCK), gucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase), glucokinase (GK) and cannabinoid receptor l (CB1) in the livers of the ALK group compared to model group. Meanwhile, ALK group also exhibited a remarkable increase in the pancreatic-duodenal homeobox 1 (PDX-1), glucose transporter 2 (GLUT 2), GK levels and a significant decrease in the expression levels of CB1 in the pancreas, while the presence of capsazepine would affected the expression of these genes. These findings indicate that Zanthoxylum alkylamides could ameliorate the glucose metabolism disorder in diabetic rats. Furthermore, the TRPV1 receptor could participate in regulating the expressions of genes and proteins related to glucose metabolism and insulin secretion in the liver and pancreas, and takes a role in the hypoglycemic process of Zanthoxylum alkylamides.

        Genetic Diversity of Toxoplasma gondii Strains from Different Hosts and Geographical Regions by Sequence Analysis of GRA20 Gene

        Toxoplasma gondii is a eukaryotic parasite of the phylum Apicomplexa, which infects all warm-blood animals, including humans. In the present study, we examined sequence variation in dense granule 20 (GRA20) genes among T. gondii isolates collected from different hosts and geographical regions worldwide. The complete GRA20 genes were amplified from 16 T. gondii isolates using PCR, sequence were analyzed, and phylogenetic reconstruction was analyzed by maximum parsimony (MP) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods. The results showed that the complete GRA20 gene sequence was 1,586 bp in length among all the isolates used in this study, and the sequence variations in nucleotides were 0-7.9% among all strains. However, removing the type III strains (CTG, VEG), the sequence variations became very low, only 0-0.7%. These results indicated that the GRA20 sequence in type III was more divergence. Phylogenetic analysis of GRA20 sequences using MP and ML methods can differentiate 2 major clonal lineage types (type I and type III) into their respective clusters, indicating the GRA20 gene may represent a novel genetic marker for intraspecific phylogenetic analyses of T. gondii.
