        Boosting capacitive performance of manganese oxide nanorods by decorating with three-dimensional crushed graphene

        This work reports the rational design of MnOx nanorods on 3D crushed reduced graphene oxide (MnOx/C-rGO) by chemical reduction of Ni-incorporated graphene oxide (GO) followed by chemical etching to remove Ni. The resulting MnOx/C-rGO composite synergistically integrates the electronic properties and geometry structure of MnOx and 3D C-rGO. As a result, MnOx/C-rGO shows a significantly higher specific capacitance (Csp) of 863 F g−1 than MnOx/2D graphene sheets (MnOx/S-rGO) (373 F g−1) and MnOx (200 F g−1) at a current density of 0.2 A g−1. Furthermore, when assembled into symmetric supercapacitors, the MnOx/C-rGO-based device delivers a higher Csp (288 F g−1) than MnOx/S-rGO-based device (75 F g−1) at a current density of 0.3 A g−1. The superior capacitive performance of the MnOx/C-rGO-based symmetric device is attributed to the enlarged accessible surface, reduced lamellar stacking of graphene, and improved ionic transport provided by the 3D architecture of MnOx/C-rGO. In addition, the MnOx/C-rGO-based device exhibits an energy density of 23 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 113 Wkg−1, and long-term cycling stability, demonstrating its promising potential for practical application.

        Growth Performance of Pangasiid Catfish, Silver carp and Catla in Polyculture

        방글라데시 미멘싱에 소재하는 양식어장에서 pangasiid catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus), silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix)와 catla (Catla catla)의 조합과 혼합비를 달리하여 16주간 복합양식하였을 때, 이들 어종의 성장률을 조사하였다. 헥타르당 30,000개체의 밀도로 복합양식하여 성장률을 측정하였으며, 혼합조성비는 다음과 같다: 실험구(treatment) 1은 pangasiid catfish와 silver carp을 1:1비율로, 실험구 2는 pangasiid catfish와 cata를 1:1비율로, 실험구 3과 4는 pangasiid catfish, silver carp과 catla를 각각 2:1:1과 3:2:1비율로 복합양식하였다. 양식환경에 영향을 주는 수온, 투명도, 용존산소량, pH, NO₃-N, PO₄-P, 엽록소 a와 같은 몇몇 물리화학적, 생물학적 요인과 플랑크톤의 군집을 정기적으로 조사하였다. 어류의 성장속도는 비 성장율(specific growth rate), 일간 체중 증가(daily weight gain)와 체중증가 비율(percent weight gain)을 측정하였다. Pangasiid catfish의 성장률과 사료이용률은 모든 실험구에서 유사하게 나타났다. Silver carp의 성장률은 모든 실험구에서 유의한 차이를 나타내었는데(p<0.05), 양식밀도가 증가할수록 성장률이 현저하게 감소하였으며, Silver carp의 밀도가 가장 낮은 복합양식 조성인 pangasiid catfish, silver carp과 catla의 비율이 각각 2:1:1일 때, silver carp의 성장률이 가장 높게 나타났다. Silver carp의 밀도가 증가할수록 catla의 성장률이 현저하게 감소하는 것으로 나타나, catla의 성장률은 silver carp의 유무에 영향을 받는 것으로 판단되었다. Catla의 성장률은 pangasiid catfish와 calta의 비율이 1:1일 때, 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 양식수율과 경제적 이익은 실험구에 따라 현저하게 다른 양상을 보였다(p<0.05). 가장 높은 양식수율과 경제적 이익은 pangasiid catfish, silver carp과 catla를 각각 2:1:1 비율로 양식한 결과에서 얻어졌는데, 이는 silver carp의 높은 성장률과 catla의 시장 단가가 높은 것에 기인하는 것으로 나타났다. 모든 실험구의 수질 상태는 양식기간 동안 적절한 수준을 유지하였으며, 각각의 값은 모든 실험구에서 뚜렷한 차이를 보이지 않았다(p<0.05). The growth performance of pangasiid catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus), silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and catla (Catla catla) was evaluated in polyculture at varied combinations and stocking ratios in earthen pond for a period of 16 weeks. Combinations of pangasiid catfish, silver carp and catla with the total density of 30,000 fish per hectare were evaluated. A commercial pelleted feed containing 28% crude protein and 6% lipid was fed only to pangasiid catfish at the rate of 8% of body weight during the first six weeks, 6% during the second six weeks and 4% thereafter twice daily. The growth and feed utilization efficiency of pangasiid catfish were found similar in all treatments. The growth of silver carp was markedly decreased upon the increase of its own stocking density. The highest growth of silver carp achieved in polyculture of pangasiid catfish, silver carp and catla at 2:1:1 ratio where density of silver carp was lowest. The growth of catla was found to be affected by the presence of silver carp. The growth rate of catla markedly declined with the increase of silver carp density. The highest growth of catla obtained in polyculture of pangasiid catfish only with catla stocked at 1:1 ratio. The highest yield and economic return achieved in polyculture of pangasiid catfish, silver carp and catla at the ratio of 2:1:1 due to higher growth of silver carp and higher market value of catla. The water quality conditions in all different treatment ponds were within optimum ranges throughout the culture period and the values did not show any significant variation (p>0.05) among the treatments.

        A comparative proteomic approach using metabolic pathways for the identification of potential drug targets against Helicobacter pylori

        Background Helicobacter pylori is the most highlighted pathogen across the globe especially in developing countries. Severe gastric problems like ulcers, cancers are associated with H. pylori and its prevalence is widespread. Evolution in the genome and cross-resistance with different antibiotics are the major reason of its survival and pandemic resistance against current regimens. Objectives To prioritize potential drug target against H. pylori by comparing metabolic pathways of its available strains. Methods We used various computational tools to extract metabolic sets of all available (61) strains of H. pylori and performed pan genomics and subtractive genomics analysis to prioritize potential drug target. Additionally, the protein interaction and detailed structure-based studies were performed for further characterization of protein. Results We found 41 strains showing similar set of metabolic pathways. However, 19 strains were found with unique set of metabolic pathways. The metabolic set of these 19 strains revealed 83 unique proteins and BLAST against human proteome further funneled them to 38 non-homologous proteins. The druggability and essentiality testing further converged our findings to a single unique protein as a potential drug target against H. pylori. Conclusion We prioritized one protein-based drug target which upon subject to applied protocol was found as close homolog of the Saccharopine dehydrogenase. Our study has opened further avenues of research regarding the discovery of new drug targets against H. pylori.

        Proteome‑wide subtractive approach to prioritize a hypothetical protein of XDR‑Mycobacterium tuberculosis as potential drug target

        Background Among the resistant isolates of MTB, multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) have been the areas of growing concern. The genomic analysis showed that the respective genomic pool of the XDR-MTB proteome contains more than 30% of the hypothetical proteins for which no functions have been annotated yet. This class of proteins presumably have their own importance to complete genome and proteome information. The bioinformatics advancements have helped to annotate those hypothetical proteins by using various computational tools and have potential to classify them functionally. Objective The objective of this study was to propose a new and unique drug target against the deadly Mycobacterium tuberculosis using Bioinformatics approaches to characterize the hypothetical proteins. Results We stepwise reduced the hypothetical proteins (total number: 1256) out of the complete proteome to only 26 essential hypothetical proteins. Out of those 26 proteins, the protein WP_003401246.1 was computationally characterized as the druggable target. Conclusion The study proposed a hypothetical protein from complete proteome of the XDR-MTB as a new drug target against which new drug candidates can be proposed. Hence, the study opens up the new avenues in the areas of drug discovery against deadly M. tuberculosis.

        Inclusion of Pangasiid Catfish in Polycultures of Major Indian Carps (Catla, Rohu and Mrigal) Increases Yield and Economic Gain

        An experiment was conducted in twelve 0.02-ha rain-fed earthen ponds for 18 weeks to evaluate the effects of including pangasiid catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) in polycultures of major Indian carps, catla (Catla catla), rohu (Labeo rohita), and mrigal (Cirrhinus cirrhosus), on yield and economic gain. Treatment 1 ($T_1$) consisted of 5,000 catla+2,500 rohu+2,500 mrigal per ha, treatment 2 ($T_2$) consisted of 5,000 catla+2,500 rohu+2,500 mrigal+2,500 pangasiid catfish per ha, treatment 3 ($T_3$) consisted of 5,000 catla+2,500 rohu+2,500 mrigal+5,000 pangasiid catfish per ha, and treatment 4 ($T_4$) consisted of 5,000 catla+2,500 rohu+2,500 mrigal+7,500 pangasiid catfish per ha. The growth performance of fishes was evaluated by calculating specific growth rate, daily weight gain, and percent weight gain. Inclusion of pangasiid catfish in the carp polyculture resulted in significant increases in the growth and yield of catla and rohu. Catla and rohu grew most in $T_4$, with 7,500/ha of pangasiid catfish. The presence of pangasiid catfish did not influence the growth of mrigal. The growth of pangasiid catfish varied with stocking density, and they grew best at 5,000/ha ($T_3$). The carp and the combined fish yields were significantly higher in the carp polycultures with pangasiid catfish than with carps alone. The total carp and the combined fish yields were highest in $T_4$, in which the density of pangasiid catfish was greatest. However, the total carp and the combined fish yields in $T_3$ and $T_4$ were not significantly different. Profit differed significantly among treatments. Economic gain was highest in $T_3$, with 5,000/ha of pangasiid catfish, and lowest in $T_1$. The inclusion of pangasiid catfish in major carp polycultures results in higher fish yields and greater economic gain.

      • Synthesis and Characterization of Linear and Crosslinked Acrylic Pressure Sensitive Adhesives for Fixing Battery Packs In Electric Vehicles

        The acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) have good adhesion properties to adhere to different substrates, which makes them a good candidate for use in electric vehicles for fixing battery packs. But it has some limitations, as general PSAs have very low glass transition temperature (Tg) and low thermal properties. To increase these properties, we adopted two techniques in this study. First, the feed composition of monomers 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and acrylic acid (AA) were changed where AA feed compositions were 5-15%. Then curing agents containing epoxy and isocyanate groups react with the carboxylic group to produce the crosslinking structure. The highest Tg and thermal properties were observed in the copolymer composition where 15% of AA and 1 wt% of epoxy curing agent were used. However, the lowest peel strength was observed for this composition because of the high crosslinking density. The characterizations were done by FT-IR, H-NMR, DSC, TGA and 180° peel strength test.
