        The first record of genus Neocsikia Ôhira & Becker (Coleoptera, Elateridae, Dimini) in China, with the description of a new species

        The click-beetle genus Neocsikia Ôhira & Becker, 1972 is newly recorded from Xizang, China upon the discoveries of Neocsikia nepalensis Ôhira & Becker, 1972 and N. xuhaoi Qiu, sp. nov. Neocsikia nepalensis is redescribed based on the type material from Nepal and material collected in Nyalam County, Xizang, China. Neocsikia xuhaoi Qiu, sp. nov. is described based on the material collected in Mêdog County, Xizang, China. Both species are illustrated and their principal diagnostic features are provided.         Complete mitochondrial genomes of two click-beetles, Sinelater perroti and Sternocampsus coriaceus (Coleoptera: Elateroidea: Elateridae), and their phylogenetic implications

        Two complete mitochondrial genomes of Elateridae, Sinelater perroti (Tetralobinae: Tetralobini) and Sterno campsus coriaceus (Dendrometrinae: Oxynopterini), were sequenced to further understand the characteristics of click-beetle mitogenomes. Comparative genomic analyses showed a high degree of similarity among the two new and other known click-beetle mitogenomic data. The mitogenomes of Elateridae exhibited typical insect gene order and orientation, which contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes and one control region; and showed a high A + T composition (63.1%–76.7%). The mitogenome of Si. perroti exhibited long intergenic nucleotides between tRNA-Trp and tRNA-Cys genes (287 bp) and between tRNA-Asp and atp8 genes (104 bp); while that of St. coriaceus had the compact intergenic and overlapping nucleotides the same as other known Elateridae mitogenomes. The phylogeny of Elateridae was reconstructed based on two datasets of mitochondrial genomes and performed in IQ-TREE and MrBayes. The result showed that Elateridae is divided into six main clades. Tetralobinae was recovered as sister to all remaining elaterid lineages, Oxynopterini was nested in Dendrometrinae.

      • A Dynamic Gesture Trajectory Recognition Based on Key Frame Extraction and HMM

        Aiming at changing high computational complexity, underdeveloped real time, low recognition rate of dynamic gesture recognition algorithms, this paper present a real-time dynamic gesture trajectory recognition method based on key frame extraction and HMM. Key frames are selected without keeping track of all the details of one dynamic gesture, which is based on difference degree between frames. The trajectory data stream, sorted by the time-warping algorithm, is used to construct the Hidden Markov Method model of dynamic gesture. Finally, optimal transition probabilities are employed to implement dynamic gesture recognition. The result of this experiment implies that this method has high robustness and real time. The average recognition rate of dynamic gesture (0~9) is up to 87.67%, and average time efficiency is 0.46s.

      • Dynamic Hand Gesture Trajectory Recognition Based on Block Feature and Skin-Color Clustering

        In recent years, dynamic hand gesture recognition has been a research hotspot of human-computer interaction. Since most existing algorithms contain problems with high computational complexity, poor real-time performance and low recognition rate, which cannot satisfy the need of many practical applications. Moreover, key frames obtained by inter-frame difference degree algorithm contain less information, which leads to less identified species and lower recognition rate. To solve these problems, we present a dynamic hand gesture trajectory recognition method based on the theory of block feature to extract key frames and the skin-color clustering’s hand gesture segmentation. Firstly, this method extracts block feature of degree of difference between frames in hand gesture sequence to select key frames accurately. Secondly, the method based on skin-color clustering is applied to obtain the area of hand gesture after segmenting hand gestures from images. Finally, hidden Markov model (HMM), in which the angle data of hand gesture trajectories are input, is used for modeling and identifying dynamic hand gestures. Experimental results show that the method of key-frame extraction is used to obtain information of dynamic hand gestures accurately, which would improve the recognition rate of dynamic hand gesture recognition and, at the same time, can guarantee the real-time of hand gesture recognition system. The average recognition rate is up to 86.67%, and the average time efficiency is 0.39s.

      • Hand Gesture Segmentation Method Based on YCbCr Color Space and K-Means Clustering

        Aiming at the problems that current skin-color detection segmentation technologies have unsatisfied segmentation results under conditions of complex illumination or backgrounds, we present a new method based on YCbCr color space and K-means clustering algorithm for segmentation hand gesture. Firstly, image in RGB color space is converted to YCbCr color space; and then YCbCr color space of image is divided into luminance Y and chrominance Cb and Cr. Lastly, the binary image is achieved by clustering values of chrominance using k-means clustering algorithm, and hand gesture segmentation is completed by conducting morphological process of binary image obtained. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed method can segment hand gestures from complex backgrounds and obtain segmentation results. The phenomena of similar skin color interference and skin color overlapping are solved with this method effectively. In addition, it is robust to illumination condition.

      • On Which Microphysical Time Scales to Use in Studies of Entrainment‐Mixing Mechanisms in Clouds

        <P>The commonly used time scales in entrainment-mixing studies are examined to seek the most appropriate one, based on aircraft observations of cumulus clouds from the RACORO campaign and numerical simulations with the Explicit Mixing Parcel Model. The time scales include the following: (evap), the time for droplet complete evaporation; (phase), the time for saturation ratio deficit (S) to reach 1/e of its initial value; (satu), the time for S to reach -0.5%; and (react), the time for complete droplet evaporation or S to reach -0.5%. It is found that the proper time scale to use depends on the specific objectives of entrainment-mixing studies. First, if the focus is on the variations of liquid water content (LWC) and S, then (react) for saturation, (satu) and (phase) are almost equivalently appropriate, because they all represent the rate of dry air reaching saturation or of LWC decrease. Second, if one focuses on the variations of droplet size and number concentration, (react) for complete evaporation and (evap) are proper because they characterize how fast droplets evaporate and whether number concentration decreases. Moreover, (react) for complete evaporation and (evap) are always positively correlated with homogeneous mixing degree (); thus, the two time scales, especially (evap), are recommended for developing parameterizations. However, and the other time scales can be negatively, positively, or not correlated, depending on the dominant factors of the entrained air (i.e., relative humidity or aerosols). Third, all time scales are proportional to each other under certain microphysical and thermodynamic conditions.</P>

      • Stress variation analysis based on temperature measurements at Zhuhai Opera House

        The Zhuhai Opera House has an external structure consisting of a type of spatial steel, where the stress of steel elements varies with the ambient temperature. A structural health monitoring system was implemented at Zhuhai Opera House, and the temperatures and stresses of the structures were monitored in real time. The relationship between the stress distribution and temperature variations was analysed by measuring the temperature and stresses of the steel elements. In addition to measurements of the structure stresses and temperatures, further simulation analysis was carried out to provide the detailed relationship between the stress distributions and temperature variations. The limited temperature measurements were used to simulate the structure temperature distribution, and the stress distributions of all steel elements of the structure were analysed by building a finite element model of the Zhuhai Opera House spatial steel structure. This study aims to reveal the stress distributions of steel elements in a real-world project based on temperature variations, and to supply a basic database for the optimal construction time of a spatial steel structure. This will not only provide convenient, rapid and safe early warnings and decision-making for the spatial steel structure construction and operation processes, but also improve the structural safety and construction accuracy of steel space structures.

        Sound Recognition of Harmful Bird Species Related to Power Grid Faults Based on VGGish Transfer Learning

        Bird activities threaten the safe operation of transmission lines and substations. In order to assist differentiated prevention of bird-related faults in power grid, this paper proposes a birdsong recognition method based on VGGish transfer learning. Firstly, according to the information of bird species related to historical power grid faults and the investigation results of bird species around transmission lines, 18 high-risk, 18 low-risk, and 2 harmless bird species were selected to establish a sample set with their song signals. Then, the birdsong signals were preprocessed by framing, windowing, noise reduction and clipping, thus to extract the spectrogram, which was mapped to a 64-order Mel filter banks to get the Mel spectrogram. Aiming at weak generalization ability of traditional birdsong recognition models due to insufficient number of samples, the VGGish transfer learning network pretrained by AudioSet was used as the birdsong feature extractor, and the Mel spectrograms of harmful bird species belong to the training set were taken as inputs to train the network parameters, thus to extract 128-dimensional VGGish deep features for bird recognition. This method was applied to classify 38 kinds of bird species related to power grid faults, and the recognition accuracy reaches 94.43%. The research results can provide references for power grid inspector to carry out intelligent recognition and ecological prevention of bird species.
