SMA OBSERVATIONS OF THE W3(OH) COMPLEX: PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL DIFFERENTIATION BETWEEN W3(H2O) AND W3(OH)

        Qin, Sheng-Li,Schilke, Peter,Wu, Jingwen,Wu, Yuefang,Liu, Tie,Liu, Ying,,nchez-Monge, Á,lvaro IOP Publishing 2015 The Astrophysical journal Vol.803 No.1

<P>We report on the Submillimeter Array (SMA) observations of molecular lines at 270 GHz toward the W3(OH) and W3(H2O) complex. Although previous observations already resolved the W3(H2O) into two or three subcomponents, the physical and chemical properties of the two sources are not well constrained. Our SMA observations clearly resolved the W3(OH) and W3(H2O) continuum cores. Taking advantage of the line fitting tool XCLASS, we identified and modeled a rich molecular spectrum in this complex, including multiple CH3CN and CH3OH transitions in both cores. HDO, C2H5CN, (OCS)-C-13, and vibrationally excited lines of HCN, CH3CN, and CH3OCHO were only detected in W3(H2O). We calculate gas temperatures and column densities for both cores. The results show that W3(H2O) has higher gas temperatures and larger column densities than W3(OH) as previously observed, suggesting physical and chemical differences between the two cores. We compare the molecular abundances in W3(H2O) to those in the Sgr B2(N) hot core, the Orion KL hot core, and the Orion Compact Ridge, and discuss the chemical origin of specific species. An east-west velocity gradient is seen in W3 (H2O), and the extension is consistent with the bipolar outflow orientation traced by water masers and radio jets. A north-south velocity gradient across W3(OH) is also observed. However, with current observations we cannot be assured whether the velocity gradients are caused by rotation, outflow, or radial velocity differences of the subcomponents of W3(OH).</P>

Complete mesocolic excision in right hemicolectomy

        Qin-Song Sheng,Zhe Pan,Jin Chai,Xiao-Bin Cheng,Fan-Long Liu,Jin-Hai Wang,Wen-Bin Chen,Jian-Jiang Lin 대한외과학회 2017 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.92 No.2

Purpose: To demonstrate the feasibility, safety, and technical strategies of hand-assisted laparoscopic complete mesocolic excision (HAL-CME) and to compare oncological outcomes between HAL-CME and the open approach (O-CME) for right colon cancers. Methods: Patients who were scheduled to undergo a right hemicolectomy were divided into HAL-CME and O-CME groups. Measured outcomes included demographic variables, perioperative parameters, and follow-up data. Demographic variables included age, sex distribution, body mass index (BMI), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classification, previous abdominal surgery, tumor localization, and potential comorbidities. Perioperative parameters included incision length, operative time, blood loss, conversion rate, postoperative pain score, postoperative first passage of flatus, duration of hospital stay, total cost, number of lymph nodes retrieved, TNM classification, and postoperative complications. Follow-up data included follow-up time, use of chemotherapy, local recurrence rate, distant metastasis rate, and short-term survival rate. Results: In total, 150 patients (HAL-CME, 78; O-CME, 72) were included. The groups were similar in age, sex distribution, BMI, ASA classification, history of previous abdominal surgeries, tumor localization, and potential comorbidities. Patients in the HAL-CME group had shorter incision lengths, longer operative times, less operative blood loss, lower pain scores, earlier first passage of flatus, shorter hospital stay, higher total costs, similar numbers of lymph nodes retrieved, similar TNM classifications, and a comparable incidence of postoperative complications. The 2 groups were also similar in local recurrence rate, distant metastasis rate, and short-term survival rate. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that the HAL-CME procedure is a safe, valid, and feasible surgical method for right hemicolon cancers.

      • Sleep Duration and Cancer Risk: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Prospective Studies

        Zhao, Hao,Yin, Jie-Yun,Yang, Wan-Shui,Qin, Qin,Li, Ting-Ting,Shi, Yun,Deng, Qin,Wei, Sheng,Liu, Li,Wang, Xin,Nie, Shao-Fa Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

To assess the risk of cancers associated with sleep duration using meta-analysis of published cohort studies, we performed a comprehensive search using PubMed, Embase and Web of Science through October 2013. We combined hazard ratios (HRs) from individual studies using meta-analysis approaches. A random effect dose-response analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between sleep duration and cancer risk. Subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were also performed. Publication bias was evaluated using Funnel plots and Begg's test. A total of 13 cohorts from 12 studies were included in this meta-analysis, which included 723, 337 participants with 15, 156 reported cancer outcomes during a follow-up period ranging from 7.5 to 22 years. The pooled adjusted HRs were 1.06 (95% CI: 0.92, 1.23; P for heterogeneity =0.003) for short sleep duration, 0.91 (95% CI: 0.78, 1.07; P for heterogeneity <0.0001) for long sleep duration. In subgroup analyses stratified by cancer type, long duration of sleep showed an inverse relation with hormone-related cancer (HR=0.79; 95% CI: 0.65, 0.97; P for heterogeneity =0.009) and a greater risk of colorectal cancer (HR=1.29; 95% CI: 1.09, 1.52; P for heterogeneity =0.346). Further meta-analysis on dose-response relationships showed that the relative risks of cancer were 1.00 (95% CI: 0.99, 1.01; P for linear trend=0.9151) for one hour of sleep increment per day, and 1.00 (95% CI: 0.98, 1.01; P for linear trend=0.7749) for one hour of sleep increment per night. No significant dose-response relationship between sleep duration and cancer was found on non-linearity testing (P=0.5053). Our meta-analysis suggests a positive association between long sleep duration and colorectal cancer, and an inverse association with incidence of hormone related cancers like those in the breast. Studies with larger sample size, longer follow-up times, more cancer types and detailed measure of sleep duration are warranted to confirm these results.

Sunlight Exposure and Breast Density: A Population-Based Study

        Sheng-Hui Wu,Edwin So,Tsz-ping Lam,Jean Woo,PY Yuen,Ling Qin,Susanna Ku,Suzanne C. Ho 한국유방암학회 2013 Journal of breast cancer Vol.16 No.2

Purpose: This study aims to assess the association of sunlight exposure with breast cancer risk, measured by the breast density assessed from Tabár’s mammographic pattern in Chinese women. Methods: A total of 676 premenopausal women were recruited to participate in this study, in which 650 completed a validated sunlight exposure questionnaire via telephone. The mammograms were classified according to Tabár’s classification for parenchyma, and patterns IV & V and I, II & III indicated respectively high and low risk mammographic patterns for breast cancer. The odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for sun exposure-related variables were estimated using unconditional logistic regression with adjustment for potential confounders. Results: Among 646 participants, women with high breast cancer risk (Tabár’s patterns IV &V) had less hours spent in the sun than those with low risk (I, II & III) at any age stage. A higher level of sunlight exposure was associated with a significantly lower risk having high risk Tabár’s pattern. Women aged 40 to 44 years who were in the highest tertile of lifetime total hours spent in the sun had a multi-adjusted OR of 0.41 (95% CI, 0.18-0.92; p for trend=0.03) compared with those in the lowest tertile (>2.19 hr/day vs. <1.32 hr/day). For hours spent in the sun across the ages of 6 to 12 years, the comparable OR was 0.37 (95% CI, 0.15-0.91; p for trend=0.03). Conclusion: These findings suggest that higher sunlight exposure is related to a lower risk of having high risk breast density pattern in premenopausal women. Our results also suggest the most relevant period of exposure is during earlier life.

Overexpression of A RING finger ubiquitin ligase gene AtATRF1 enhances aluminium tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana

        Xiaomei Qin,Sheng Huang,Yanqing Liu,Mingdi Bian,Wuliang Shi,Zecheng Zuo,Zhenming Yang 한국식물학회 2017 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.60 No.1

Aluminium (Al) toxicity is a primary limitation of crop production in acid soils, which take over 40% of arable soil worldwide. In previous studies, a series of genes have been identified to regulate the plant Al resistance or tolerance. However, none of E3 ubiquitin ligase, the key factor of ubiquitination that plays an important role in plant growth and development, has been characterized for Al response in Arabidopsis. In this study, an E3 ubiquition ligase gene AtATRF1 (Al Tolerance RING Finger 1), a homolog of RAD18 interacting RAD6 to repair the damaged DNA in human and yeast, is isolated from Arabidopsis. It encodes a predicted protein of 296 amino acids with a C3HC4 type RING finger domain. The expression of AtATRF1 is induced by Al, and the transgenic plant overexpressing AtATRF1 enhances the Al tolerance. Similar as RAD18, the AtATRF1 locates in nucleus and regulates the expression of AtATR, which involves in DNA repair and Al response in Arabidopsis. Our results indicate that nuclearlocated AtATRF1 may interact and ubiquitinate the transcriptional regulator of AtATR to mediate the Al tolerance of Arabidopsis.

H∞ Synchronization of Two Different Discrete-Time Chaotic Systems via a Unified Model

        Mei-Qin Liu,Haiyang Chen,Senlin Zhang,Weihua Sheng 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2015 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.13 No.1

This paper presents some novel synchronization methods for two discrete-time chaotic systems with different time delays, which are transformed into two unified models. First, the H∞ performance of the synchronization error dynamical system between the drive unified model and the response one is analyzed using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. Second, the novel state feedback controllers are established to guarantee H∞ performance for the overall system. The parameters of these controllers are determined by solving the eigenvalue problem (EVP). Most discrete-time chaotic systems with or without time delays can be converted into this unified model, and H∞ synchronization controllers are designed in a unified way. The effectiveness of the proposed design methods are demonstrated by three numerical examples.

MicroRNA Let-7c inhibits Bcl-xl expression and regulates ox-LDL-induced endothelial apoptosis

        ( Bing Qin ),( Bo Xiao ),( De Sheng Liang ),( Ye Li ),( Ting Jiang ),( Huan Yang ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2012 BMB Reports Vol.45 No.8

Endothelial cells (ECs) apoptosis induced by oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) is thought to play a critical role in atherosclerosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of noncoding RNAs that posttranscriptionally regulate the expression of genes involved in diverse cell functions, including differentiation, growth, proliferation, and apoptosis. MiRNA let-7 family is known to be involved in the regulation of cell apoptosis. However, the function of let-7 in ox-LDL induced ECs apoptosis and atherosclerosis is still unknown. Here, we show that let-7c expression was markedly up-regulated in ox-LDL induced apoptotic human umbilical cord vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Let-7c over-expression enhanced apoptosis in ECs whereas inhibition of let-7c could partly alleviate apoptotic cell death mediated by ox-LDL. Searching for how let-7c affected apoptosis, we discovered that antiapoptotic protein Bcl-xl was a direct target of let-7c in ECs. Our data suggest that let-7c contributes to endothelial apoptosis through suppression of Bcl-xl. [BMB Reports 2012; 45(8): 464-469]

Protein Expression Analysis of Halobacillus dabanensis D-8T Subjected to Salt Shock

De Qin Feng,Bo Zhang,Wei Dong Lu,Su Sheng Yang 한국미생물학회 2006 The journal of microbiology Vol.44 No.4

To investigate the mechanism of salt tolerance of gram-positive moderately halophilic bacteria, two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE) was employed to achieve high resolution maps of proteins of Halobacillus dabanensis D-8T. Approximately 700 spots of proteins were identified from these 2-D PAGE maps. The majority of these proteins had molecular weights between 17.5 and 66 kDa, and most of them were distributed between the isoelectric points (pI) 4.0 and 5.9. Some protein spots were distributed in the more acidic region of the 2-D gel (pI <4.0). This pattern indicated that a number of proteins in the strain D-8T are acidic. To understand the adaptation mechanisms of moderately halophilic bacteria in response to sudden environmental changes, differential protein profiles of this strain were investigated by 2-D PAGE and ImagemasterTM 2D Platinum software after the cells were subjected to salt shock of 1 to 25% salinity for 5 and 50 min. Analysis showed 59 proteins with an altered level of expression as the result of the exposure to salt shock. Eighteen proteins had increased expression, 8 proteins were induced, and the expression of 33 proteins was down-regulated. Eight of the up-regulated proteins were identified using MALDI-TOF/MS and MASCOT, and were similar to proteins involved in signal transduction, proteins participating in energy metabolism pathways and proteins involved in stress.

Output Chattering Attenuation between Two Tracking Controllers

Guozheng Qin,Zhi-Sheng Duan 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2012 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.10 No.3

In this paper, an output chattering attenuation scheme is proposed for two tracking controllers. The controllers have integral actions and are used to eliminate the steady-state tracking errors. By designing a compensator and reducing the discontinuous switching, the output chattering at the switch-ing points can be attenuated significantly. Moreover, combining with the generalized Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov (KYP) lemma and the parameter-dependent Lyapunov function method, this problem can be characterized in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) formulation. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
