      • Fabrication of Graphene Thin Films Based on Layer-by-Layer Self-Assembly of Functionalized Graphene Nanosheets

        <P>In this study, we present a facile means of fabricating graphene thin films via layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly of charged graphene nanosheets (GS) based on electrostatic interactions. To this end, graphite oxide (GO) obtained from graphite powder using Hummers method is chemically reduced to carboxylic acid-functionalized GS and amine-functionalized GS to perform an alternate LbL deposition between oppositely charged GSs. Specifically, for successful preparation of positively charged GS, GOs are treated with an intermediate acyl-chlorination reaction by thionyl chloride and a subsequent amidation reaction in pyridine, whereby a stable GO dispersibility can be maintained within the polar reaction solvent. As a result, without the aid of additional hybridization with charged nanomaterials or polyelectrolytes, the oppositely charged graphene nanosheets can be electrostatically assembled to form graphene thin films in an aqueous environment, while obtaining controllability over film thickness and transparency. Finally, the electrical property of the assembled graphene thin films can be enhanced through a thermal treatment process. Notably, the introduction of chloride functions during the acyl-chlorination reaction provides the p-doping effect for the assembled graphene thin films, yielding a sheet resistance of 1.4 kΩ/sq with a light transmittance of 80% after thermal treatment. Since the proposed method allows for large-scale production as well as elaborate manipulation of the physical properties of the graphene thin films, it can be potentially utilized in various applications, such as transparent electrodes, flexible displays and highly sensitive biosensors.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2011/aamick.2011.3.issue-2/am100977p/production/images/medium/am-2010-00977p_0001.gif'></P>

        Korean Medicine Treatments in Threepatients with Bell’s Palsy after Coronavirus Disease 2019 Infection: A Retrospective Case Series

        Bell’s palsy is an acute facial paralysis caused by peripheral facial nerve dysfunction. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of Korean medicine in the treatment of three patients who were hospitalized and diagnosed with Bell’s palsy within 2 weeks of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. The patients were administered with Korean medicine treatments, steroids, and antiviral drugs. Moreover, the Korean medicine treatments include acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibustion, physical therapy, and herbal medicine. Symptom improvement was evaluated daily using the Yanagihara facial nerve grading system, a facial function evaluation tool. Furthermore, it was suggested that the patients affected by Bell’s palsy after COVID-19 infection may have a slower improvement in their treatment progress compared with those without COVID-19 infection in the acute stage.

        제품디자인 개발 프로세스에 있어서 효율적인 색채적용 방향에 관한 연구

        제품을 디자인하는 프로세스는 신제품을 개발하는 과정에서 가장 중요한 것이라 할 수 있다. 제품디자인 개발 프로세스는 매우 복잡하고 제품의 특성, 기업의 특성, 시장 상황에 따라 유연하게 대처하여야 하기 때문에 하나의 고정된 형식으로만 볼 수 없는 특성이 있다. 제품에서의 색채는 소비자의 구매 욕구를 불러일으키는 중요한 요인이며 이러한 제품 자체의 개념에 시각적인 성격을 부여하는 매력적인 요소이다. 색채는 최소의 비용으로 최대의 효과를 내는 가장 효율적으로 실행하는 차별화 전략이다. 또한 인간의 심리적, 생리적 사고에 영향을 미치고 제품의 기능적 요소로 작용하여 제품의 정보 전달 기능을 효과적으로 수행할 수 있으므로 제품디자인에 있어서는 상당히 중요한 요소이다. 조화롭게 적용된 색채는 제품의 심미성을 증가시킬 뿐만 아니라 판매에 있어 중요한 마케팅 포인트가 된다. 제품디자인 개발 프로세스에서 색채계획이 어떻게 진행되고 있으며, 최근의 성공적인 사례를 중심으로 제품의 색채 이미지를 중심으로 한 소비자와 제품과의 관계를 비교, 분석하여 색채에 의한 새로운 제품의 이미지 창출을 통한 효율적인 색채디자인 방향을 얻어낼 수 있도록 하였다. Product design process is the most essential feature in generating new products. Product design process is very complex because it must be flexible due to special characteristics of the product and the company, and industry situation, so product design process should not just hold fixed. Colors encourage sales from the customers and give enchanting visual appearance to the products. Color is one of the most persuasive differentiation strategies that produces the best results while requiring the least amount of money. Color psychologically affects the mind of customers in a certain way and is a powerful functional design tool in delivering information of the products. Therefore, color is a very important factor in product design process. Combination of colors not only enhances aesthetic appreciation, but also becomes the most crucial marketing point. The study is upon how color planning works in the product design process and it includes comparing and analyzing how color is used to influence customers depending upon the aim of the company and products marketed, proven by various current successful cases. The study aims to find out the most powerful way to bring about the best results for the products by appropriate color planning.

        2010 상해 엑스포 전시관 LED 조명의 조형 연출에 관한 연구

        전시 공간은 다양한 원천 기술의 발전에 따라 관람자 인지능력의 최적화 환경과 흥미를 이끌어내는 미래적인 컨텐츠를 선보이고 있다. 빛에 의한 연출은 보다 신기술의 영향을 적극적으로 받아들여, 작품성이 뛰어나고 우수한 미디어 컨텐츠와 연출력이 높고 이미지 전달이 효과적인 전시 조명환경을 지속적으로 만들어가고 있다. 이러한 전시 공간의 최신 트랜드와 발전 경향을 한눈에 확인하고 이해할 수 있는 최적의 기회로 국제 규모의 전시행사인 엑스포를 연구 대상으로 선정하였으며, 특히 세계적인 역량과 입지가 급상승 중인 중국 상해에서 2010 SHANGHAI EXPO를 분석 사례로 연구하고자 한다. 2010 SHANGHAI EXPO는 세계 각국의 문화와 가치관 등이 집약되어 전달될 수 있는 막대한 규모의 세기의 전시 공간을 만들어냈으며, 국가관, 기업관, 주제관 등 대규모 부지에 다양한 스토리와 첨단 기술력이 집약된 연출 결과들이 세계의 주목을 받는 대규모 이벤트를 완성시켰다. LED를 공간 연출에 적극적으로 도입한 국가 및 기업의 전시관은 빛 연출로 구현될 수 있는 조형적 가치가 극대화된 조형 공간을 선보였으며, 이에 LED라는 첨단 기술은 더욱 크고 효과적인 결과물을 이끌어냈다. 직접적인 이미지와 브랜드를 전달하도록 영상을 구현하는 전시 공간, 빛 연출에 의한 추상적 형상을 표현하는 오브제, 건축적 매스(MASS) 이미지와 재질감을 빛의 속성으로 극대화하는 파빌리온과 같은 대상과 LED 광원이 컨텐츠를 보조하는 조명으로 역할을 하는 공간, LED에 의한 미디어 아트가 독자적인 컨텐츠로 선보이는 공간 등 다양한 조명 연출로 LED 광원이 활용되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 이러한 경향의 사례를 중심으로 분류하고, 전시 효과를 높이는 연출 방법론의 개발로 이어질 수 있는 초석이 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.         Inhibitory effect of 1,2,4,5-tetramethoxybenzene on mast cell-mediated allergic inflammation through suppression of IκB kinase complex

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>As the importance of allergic disorders such as atopic dermatitis and allergic asthma, research on potential drug candidates becomes more necessary. Mast cells play an important role as initiators of allergic responses through the release of histamine; therefore, they should be the target of pharmaceutical development for the management of allergic inflammation. In our previous study, anti-allergic effect of extracts of <I>Amomum xanthioides</I> was demonstrated. To further investigate improved candidates, 1,2,4,5-tetramethoxybenzene (TMB) was isolated from methanol extracts of <I>A. xanthioides</I>. TMB dose-dependently attenuated the degranulation of mast cells without cytotoxicity by inhibiting calcium influx. TMB decreased the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin (IL)-4 at both the transcriptional and translational levels. Increased expression of these cytokines was caused by translocation of nuclear factor-κB into the nucleus, and it was hindered by suppressing activation of IκB kinase complex. To confirm the effect of TMB <I>in vivo</I>, the ovalbumin (OVA)-induced active systemic anaphylaxis (ASA) and IgE-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) models were used. In the ASA model, hypothermia was decreased by oral administration of TMB, which attenuated serum histamine, OVA-specific IgE, and IL-4 levels. Increased pigmentation of Evans blue was reduced by TMB in a dose-dependent manner in the PCA model. Our results suggest that TMB is a possible therapeutic candidate for allergic inflammatory diseases that acts through the inhibition of mast cell degranulation and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> TMB reduced the degranulation of mast cells. </LI> <LI> TMB inhibited the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. </LI> <LI> TMB suppressed both active and passive anaphylaxis. </LI> <LI> Anti-allergic inflammatory effects of TMB might be due to the blocking IKK complex. </LI> <LI> TMB might be a candidate for the treatment of allergic inflammatory diseases. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
