        This paper presents Z-source inverters, their controls,, and their systems for motor drives. System configurations, analysis, controls, and unique features of the new Z-source motor drive systems will be summarized and given. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate advantageous features over the traditional voltage- and current-source inverter systems.

        Xylanase Supplementation Improved Digestibility and Performance of Growing Pigs Fed Chinese Double-low Rapeseed Meal Inclusion Diets: In vitro and In vivo Studies

        An in vitro and a feeding trial were conducted to investigate the effect of xylanase supplementation on the feeding value of growing pig diets containing high proportions of Chinese double-low rapeseed meals (DLRM). Seven diets were formulated to meet NRC (1998) nutrient requirements. Diet 1 based on corn-soybean meal was used as positive control 1, and diet 2, a practical diet which incorporated a conventional level of Chinese DLRM (60 g/kg diet), as positive control 2. Diet 3 contained a higher level of DLRM (100 g/kg diet) as the negative control. Diet 3 plus xylanase at 0.10, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.70 g/kg diet created diets 4, 5, 6 and 7, respectively. The seven diets were incubated in triplicate with the in vitro two-stage enzyme incubation method to predict responses of diets to xylanase in terms of digestibility of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF). In vitro, the negative control had the lowest CP and NDF digestibility. Both DM and CP digestibility were increased (p<0.05) owing to xylanase supplementation either at 0.50 or 0.70 g/kg diet, and NDF digestibility was improved following xylanase addition at all of the test levels. There was a high linear correlation ($r^2>90$, p<0.05) between the activity concentration of the enzyme when transformed into its logarithmic value and in vitro digestibility coefficients of DM, CP or NDF. In the feeding trial, 112 crossbred pigs were randomly assigned to seven dietary treatments with 16 replicate pens of one pig each. An obvious dose effect on growth rate was observed ($r^2=0.79$, p<0.05) within the inclusion levels of xylanase. Compared with the negative control, xylanase addition at 0.70 g/kg diet resulted in significantly increased ADG (878 g/d vs. 828 g/d, p<0.05), and a tendency towards improved growth rate (868 g/d vs. 828 g/d, p = 0.10) was also observed following the inclusion of xylanase at 0.50 g/kg diet. It would appear that the nutrient utilization of corn and Chinese DLRM diets by pigs could be enhanced by an appropriate amount of xylanase addition. The in vitro and in vivo results suggested that the in vitro incubation method is feasible for predicting responses of pigs to exogenous enzymes and identifying those preparations that possess potential for improvement of the nutritive values of feedstuffs.

      • Parallel Operation of Trans-Z-Source Inverter

        Recently, there is a strong demand for high power conversion system in power electronics area especially in photovoltaic (PV) power conditioning system (PCS), wind power generation, and fuel cell power generation system. However, there is a limit in increasing power level mainly due to the limitations in switching device’s voltage and current rating. One way to solve this problem is to connect power converters in parallel. Parallel operation of inverter has many advantages such as modularity, ease of maintenance, (n+1) redundancy, high reliability, etc. This paper presents parallel operation of voltage-fed-trans-Z-source inverter. A 2.6 ㎾ prototype inverter is built and tested to verify performances of the proposed inverter.

      • An Improved Energy Recovery Clamp Circuit for PWM Converters with a Wide Range of Input Voltage

        A full-bridge dc-dc converter employing diode rectifier in the output experiences severe voltage overshoot and oscillation problem across the diode rectifier caused by the interaction between the junction capacitance of the rectifier diode and the leakage inductance of transformer. The pronounced reverse-recovery current of high power diodes enforces these issues significantly by increasing power loss and voltage overshoot. Conventional energy recovery clamping circuits suffer from high voltage overshoot if the input voltage of converter is wide. In this work, a novel energy recovery clamp circuit is proposed to overcome this problem. Performance of the proposed circuit is verified both theoretically and experimentally with a 70 ㎾ dc-dc converter.

        Effects of Biocom as a Replacement of Glutamine on Performance and Blood Biochemical Indexes of Early Weaned Piglets

        The objective of this study was to evaluate Biocom (a protein source containing a high level of glutamine and alanyl-glutamine) as a replacement for glutamine (Gln) in nursery pig diets. Forty-two pigs (fourteen pigs per treatment) weaned at 28 d of age were used in a 28-d performance trial using three dietary treatments: control (no Gln), control supplemented with Gln or Biocom. The control diet was composed of corn, soybean meal, whey and fish meal. Individual body weight, pen feed disappearance and diarrhea were monitored. On d 0, 2, 7 and 14 postweaning, respectively, five pigs per treatment were selected and bled from the anterior vena cava to obtain five replicate samples of blood on each dietary treatment for determination of blood biochemical index. Dietary supplementation of Gln and Biocom did not influence performance, plasma Gln and total serum protein concentration (p>0.05). However, the addition of Gln and Biocom could prevent serum urea nitrogen and serum cortisol from increasing on d 2 postweaning (p<0.05). There were no significant differences (p>0.05) in any of the examined parameters between Gln- and Biocom-supplemented diets. In conclusion, dietary Gln did not influence the performance of early-weaned piglets owing to the complex diet containing whey, but could prevent the increase of serum urea and cortisol. Biocom could be used as a replacement for free pure Gln without any negative effect on early-weaned piglets.

      • Parallel operation of inverter using trans-Z-source network

        <P>There is strong demand for high-power application for photovoltaic and wind power generation systems. The realisation of a high power conversion system is usually limited by the available switching devices because of the maximum voltage and current ratings, losses and switching frequency. Thus, utilising parallel-connected power converters rated at more minute power levels are highly desirable. A robust approach for such a realisation would result in many advantages, such as modularity, ease of maintenance, (<I>n</I> + 1) redundancy and high reliability. The parallel operation of a voltage-fed (VF) trans-Z-source inverter (ZSI) is presented. A two parallel connected VF-trans-ZSI is introduced and a similar concept is extended to N-parallel connected inverter. A 2.9 kW prototype inverter is built and tested to verify the performance of the proposed inverter.</P>
