This paper describes computational errors found in finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) analyses of photonic crystal fibers and proposes several techniques to improve the accuracy. We first briefly introduce the FDTD computation scheme and discuss the optimization of various simulation parameters to obtain high accuracy with reasonable computation loads. The calculation of a bending loss with good agreement with the experimental data is demonstrated by proper selection of the computation domain. Finally, we propose a simulation based on a real fiber image to reflect irregularities and fabrication errors for fiber structures. Ultralow bending loss fibers with higher-order mode strippers
Vu, Ngoc Hai,Kim, Jin-Tae,Kim, Eun-Sun,Jung, Chang-Hyun,Lee, Kyung-Goo,Hwang, In-Kag The Optical Society 2010 Optics express Vol.18 No.19

We propose and demonstrate bend-insensitive fibers equipped with higher-order mode strippers. The mode stripper is realized by filling a section of air holes with epoxy to attenuate any higher-order modes that are excited at fiber junctions and are confined by the air holes surrounding the core. We found that the higher-order modes are well suppressed with 5 cm-long epoxy columns. An ultralow bending loss of 0.025 dB/turn at a bend diameter of 10 mm, together with single-modeness, is experimentally demonstrated in a bend-insensitive fiber with six air holes 16 관m in diameter.

DO, Ha Thi Hai,MAI, Cuong Ngoc,MAI, Anh Ngoc,NGUYEN, Nui Dang,PHAM, Toan Ngoc,LE, Huong Thi Thu,TRAN, Manh Dung,VU, Tri Tuan Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.6
This research investigates the impact of vocational training on wages of ethnic minority labors in emerging countries; Vietnam is the case study. The study uses secondary data from 2014 to 2018 collected through Vietnam Household Living Standards Surveys (VHLSS) conducted by the General Statistics Office. In order to analyze the impact of vocational training on wages of ethnic minority areas in Vietnam, this research creates ethnic area variables. According to Vietnamese regulations, ethnic areas are communes of 51 different provinces, inhabited by ethnic minority people. The statistics from VHLSS in 2018, show that the proportion of labors of working age with a certificate was 22.5%. The research employs Heckman Sample Selection Model to estimate the impact of vocation training on wage of labors in ethnic minority areas. The results show that vocational training plays a crucial role in improving the wages of ethnic minorities and has a positive impact. However, apart from the achieved outcomes, vocational training and job creation for ethnic minorities are not without limitations and shortcomings. Based on the findings, some recommendations to ethnic minority labors, enterprises and the Government are proposed to encourage participation in vocational training for the purpose of promoting the efficiency of the labor market.

Ngoc Tuyen Tran,Duc Vu Quyen Nguyen,Van Minh Hai Ho,Xuan Tin Dang,Ngoc Quang Tran 한양대학교 청정에너지연구소 2017 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.18 No.5
In this study, the manufacturing of sintered bricks from clay and red mud was presented. The initial materials and obtainedbricks were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope(TEM), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and differential scanning calorimetry-thermal gravimetry (DSC-TG). The compressivestrength, water absorption, bulk density and sintering shrinkage of sintered bricks were performed. The effects of componentsof raw materials, sintering temperature and time on physico-mechanical properties of the products was investigated. Theresults showed that the bricks prepared at 1000 oC for 1 hr with raw material containing up to 50% of red mud providedexcellent physico-mechanical properties. The obtained brick met the Vietnam standard VS1451-1998 and was satisfied theconstruction material requirements that were safe to human’s health and friendly with environment in terms of alkalineleaching and radioactivity indexes.

Aims: Laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) is considered as a safe and effective procedure in well - selected patients and appropriate surgical technique. Our aim is to evaluate suitability of using protocol for LPD in treatment of periampullary cancer at a single team. Methods: case series Results: Indication for LPD included 37 cases with resectable tumors which were classified basing on NCCN. All witness evaluation risk of complications with PREPARE score, ASA and evaluation risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) with FRS classification. There were 2 open conversions because of vein resections, accounting for 5.4%. Standard lymphadenectomy was performed in all of 37 cases. In term of PREPARE score, major complications (Clavien - Dindo >= III) were 17.8%, 0% and 0% (5/28, 0/5 and 0/2 cases) in low risk, intermediate risk and high risk group, respectively. All of cases had ASA I or II. POPF happened 11.1% (1/9), 4.1% (1/24) and 50% (1/2) in low risk, intermediate risk and high risk group, respectively. Frozen section was needed for R0 margin. Retrieved lymph nodes was 8 - 18 with 12 lymph nodes in average. Conclusions: Indication for LPD with resectable tumors is acceptable. ASA I or II is a safe measure to select patient for LPD. FRS classification shows appropriation to evaluate risk of POPF.
Economic Cooperation in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region
Binh Hai Le,Dang Quyen Nguyen,Kieu Trang Vu,Hiep Ngoc Luu,Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2020 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.35 No.2
This paper investigates the impact of regional economic cooperation between Vietnam and its partners during the 2000-2015 period, focusing on the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). Overall, the GMS represents a significant portion of Vietnam’s trade portfolio. China is the dominant trading partner in the GMS, exhibiting strong influence over Vietnam’s trade, especially its imports. However, using the gravity model of trade, we find that Vietnam has not benefited from GMS cooperation, as exemplified by its significant trade deficit, particularly with China. We further find that human capital enhancement and financial development are key factors to facilitate Vietnam’s trade, and mitigate its trade deficit with other GMS member countries. To this end, this study provides some important policy implications for the Vietnamese government as well as policymakers in other countries, when trading with larger partners in the context of regional economic cooperation.

The purpose of this study is to examine the determinants of intention to borrow consumer credit of Vietnamese people by applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and extending it with several variables, including anxiety, perceived trust, and perceived financial costs extracted and adapted from the existing literature. A questionnaire survey was administered in the big cities of Vietnam to a total of 602 consumers. Structural equation modeling (SEM) techniques have been employed to investigate the relationship among intention determinants to borrow. Findings show that perceived usefulness mediates the impact of subjective norms on the intention to borrow consumer credit. At the same time, subjective norms also directly influence the intention to borrow. Notably, anxiety, perceived trust, perceived financial cost, perceived ease of use have no significant influence on intention to borrow. Meanwhile, education level is confirmed to have a moderate influence on intention to borrow consumer credit of Vietnamese people. However, there is not enough statistical evidence about the influence of gender and marital status on the intention to borrow consumer credit in Vietnam. Based on the findings of the Vietnamese consumer credit market, we proposed some suggestions to promote the growth of the market in the future.
Elimination of Heat Problem in POF-based Daylighting Systems
Hoang Vu,Nguyen Manh Hieu,Tran Quoc Tien,Ngoc Hai Vu,Jongbin Park,Seoyong Shin 한국조명·전기설비학회 2020 조명·전기설비학회논문지 Vol.34 No.8
Daylighting gets more attention as people seek better quality of light meanwhile saving electricity which in buildings. Fiberoptic based daylighting systems give us the freedom to provide natural light to any space in the building including north-facing rooms, basements, etc. Using plastic optical fibers (POFs) will significantly reduce costs for these systems. However, POFs are very sensitive to heat. The POF’s maximum operating temperature is 70℃. So, it is difficult to make a daylighting system using POFs that work stably in the long term. In this paper, a new method of eliminating the heat problem in POF-based daylighting systems was introduced. In the design, a UV-IR filter, a secondary optical element (SOE), and small silica optical fiber (SOF) bundles, were included so that the final temperature of the POFs becomes reduced to 56°C from 266℃ while the ambient temperature is 35℃. This result is promising enough for POF-based daylighting systems to be installed practically. Standardization of this method for a fiberoptic daylighting system will be implemented in the near future.
