Directional Particle Filter Using Online Threshold Adaptation for Vehicle Tracking
( Mustafa Eren Yıldırım ),( Yucel Batu Salman ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.2
This paper presents an extended particle filter to increase the accuracy and decrease the computation load of vehicle tracking. Particle filter has been the subject of extensive interest in video-based tracking which is capable of solving nonlinear and non-Gaussian problems. However, there still exist problems such as preventing unnecessary particle consumption, reducing the computational burden, and increasing the accuracy. We aim to increase the accuracy without an increase in computation load. In proposed method, we calculate the direction angle of the target vehicle. The angular difference between the direction of the target vehicle and each particle of the particle filter is observed. Particles are filtered and weighted, based on their angular difference. Particles with angular difference greater than a threshold is eliminated and the remaining are stored with greater weights in order to increase their probability for state estimation. Threshold value is very critical for performance. Thus, instead of having a constant threshold value, proposed algorithm updates it online. The first advantage of our algorithm is that it prevents the system from failures caused by insufficient amount of particles. Second advantage is to reduce the risk of using unnecessary number of particles in tracking which causes computation load. Proposed algorithm is compared against camshift, direction-based particle filter and condensation algorithms. Results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the other methods in terms of accuracy, tracking duration and particle consumption.
Recognition of Single-Land Countries on Outline Images by Using BAS Feature

This paper addresses an original problem. It presents an approach for the recognition of single-land countries on outline satellite images by using Beam Angle Statistics (BAS). For this purpose, we have created an image dataset. After converting the RGB input images to binary and applying the necessary preprocessing steps, a single contour is extracted from each image by Canny Edge detector. In order to represent each county as a one-dimensional vector, BAS feature is extracted from contour point vector. Thus, each country has its unique feature vector and is independent from rotation, scale and is also robust to image deformation. For comparison of the one-dimensional vectors, Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is used. In experiments, we had Additive White Noise (AWN) added to test images which are scaled with factors 1.5, 0.5, 0.25 and are also iteratively rotated by 45°. Benchmarking has been conducted between the proposed algorithm, Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) and Oriented Fast Rotated Brief (ORB) features. Results show that BAS feature is the most robust feature against rotation followed by ORB and then SIFT. In case of upscale, BAS outperforms the others. In downscale versions, SIFT outperforms others and ORB comes as last.
Simulation of Time Delay Communication algorithm in the Shallow Underwater Channel
윤병우,Mustafa Eren Yıldırım 한국융합신호처리학회 2011 융합신호처리학회 논문지 (JISPS) Vol.12 No.1
The need of data transmission in oceans and other underwater mediums are increasing day by day, so as the research. The underwater medium is very different from that of air. Propagation of electromagnetic wave in water or underground is very difficult because of the conductivity of the propagation materials. In this case, we usually use acoustic signals as ultrasonic but, they are not easy to transfer long distance with coherent method because of time varying multipaths, Doppler effects and attenuations. So, we use non-coherent methods such as FSK or ASK to communicate between long distances. But, as the propagation speed of acoustic wave is very slow, BW of the channel is narrow. It is very hard to guaranty the enough speed for the transmission of digital image data. In previous studies, we proposed this data communication protocol theoretically. In this paper, an underwater channel is modeled and this protocol is tested in this channel condition. The results show that the protocol is 4-6 times faster than ASK. Some relations and results are shown depending on the data length, channel length, bit rate etc.

The connection surfaces of drag-link must be tough and safe enough to carry transmitted forces that exert on the product in service conditions. Therefore, undulated forming takes place in machining process to stay the rod-ends in the rod. In the rod-end, after forming process, a straight part which remains on the body causes extra cost and weight on the product. In this study, the result of shortening of rod-end which was produced from C45+N quality steel was investigated by comparing with the unmodified rod-end. The comparison was carried out by fatigue test and Finite Element Analysis. The results showed that the cropped part has almost no effect on the durability of the product. It is measured that the modification result with 0,082 kg weight reduction on each rod-end and 5 seconds shortening of machining process were observed by the modification on rod-end. The effect of modification on the part was examined in a case study. The case study indicated that annual expenses of raw material lowered by $9.124,56 and total cost decreased by $11.480,20.
Traumatic Coronary Artery Dissection in a Young Woman after a Kick to Her Back
Emrah Ipek,Emrah Ermis,Selami Demirelli,Erkan Yıldırım,Mustafa Yolcu,Bingül Dilekci Sahin 대한흉부외과학회 2015 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.48 No.4
We present the case of a 38-year-old woman admitted to our outpatient clinic with accelerating back pain and fatigue following a kick to her back by her husband. Upon arrival, we detected ST segment elevation in the D1, aVL, and V2 leads and accelerated idioventricular rhythm. She had pallor and hypotension consistent with cardiogenic shock. We immediately performed coronary angiography and found a long dissection starting from the mid-left main coronary artery and progressing into the mid-left anterior descending (LAD) and circumflex arteries. She was then transferred to the operating room for surgery. A saphenous vein was grafted to the distal LAD. Since the patient was hypotensive under noradrenaline and dopamine infusions, she was transferred to the cardiovascular surgery intensive care unit on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenator and intra-aortic balloon pump. During follow-up, her blood pressure remained low, at approximately 60/40 mmHg, despite aggressive inotropic and mechanical support. On the second postoperative day, asystole and cardiovascular arrest quickly developed, and despite aggressive cardiopulmonary resuscitation, she died.

Objectives. This study presents the role of the temporalis muscle flap in primary reconstruction after orbital exenteration. Methods. A retrospective nonrandomized study of orbital exenterations performed between 1990 and 2010 for malignant tumors of the skin, paranasal sinus, and nasal cavity is presented. Results. The study included 13 patients (nine men, four women; age range, 30–82 years) with paranasal sinus, nasal cavity, or skin carcinomas. Primary reconstruction of the cavity was performed in all patients after orbital exenteration. No visible defects in the muscle flap donor site were present. Local recurrences were readily followed up with nasal endoscopy, whereas radiology helped to diagnose intracranial involvement in three patients. Two patients died of systemic metastases and five died for other reasonsConclusion. The temporalis muscle flap is readily used to close the defect after orbital exenteration, and does not prevent the detection of recurrence.
