Genotype-Environment Interaction and Stability Analysis for Yield and Yield Contributing Characters in Soybean(Glycine max L.)

        Islam, Mohammad Saiful,Newaz, Muhammad Ali,Islam, Md. Jahidul,Heo, Seong-Il,Wang, Myeong-Hyeon The Plant Resources Society of Korea 2007 한국자원식물학회지 Vol.20 No.6

GE interaction is the expression of differential genotypic adaptation across environments. GE interactions through different stability parameters and performance of the traits of genotypes were studied. The traits were days to maturity, pod length, number of pods/ plant, 100-seed weight and seed yield/plant in ten soybean genotypes across five environments. Significant differences were observed for genotypes, environments and GE interactions. Stability analysis after Eberhart and Russell's model suggested that the genotypes used in this study were all more or less responsive to environmental changes. Most of the genotypes perform better in Env.3. Based on phenotypic indices(Pi), regression ($S^2di$) genotype Garurab was found fairly stable for days to maturity. BS-23 and G-2120 may be considered as stable genotype for pod length. All the genotypes except G-2120 showed that the genotypes were relatively unstable under environmental fluctuation for the number of pod/plant. Genotype BS-23 was found most stable among all the genotypes for 100-seed weight. BS-3 and Gaurab was the most stable and desirable genotypes for seed yield in soybean.

Isolation and identification of infectious bursal disease virus from broiler and layer chickens during the outbreak year 2007 in Bangladesh

Islam, Md. Taohidul,Mohiuddin, Mohammad,Hossain, Muhammad Tofazzal,Rahman, Md. Bahanur,Rahman, Md. Mostafizur,Rahman, Md. Siddiqur,Song, Hee-Jong,Islam, Md. Alimul The Korean Society of Veterinary Service 2012 韓國家畜衛生學會誌 Vol.35 No.1

The objective of the present study was to isolate and identify infectious bursal disease viruses (IBDVs) from broiler and layer chickens of outbreaks of infectious bursal disease (IBD) in three districts of Bangladesh. A total of 70 bursal samples were collected from dead broiler (n=40) and layer (n=30) chickens showing specific lesions of IBD from seven commercial poultry farms of three different districts (Mymensingh, Chittagong and Tangail) of Bangladesh during the year 2007. Five representative bursal samples from each farm were used for the isolation of IBDVs using 9-day-old embryonated eggs of seronegative flock of layer birds and for identification the samples were subjected to agar gel immunodiffusion test (AGIDT), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Out of 35 bursal samples, IBDVs were successfully isolated from 28 (80%) samples. By AGIDT, 32 (91.4%) samples were found positive for IBDV antigen. Results of AGIDT clearly indicated that IBDVs detected in 29 bursal samples of six affected farms were identical to each other but not to IBDVs present in the remaining three samples of another farm. Indirect immunoperoxidase staining of the bursal sections revealed the presence of IBDV antigen in 32 (91.4%) samples and the IBDV antigen was detected mainly in the cortex of the lymphoid follicles of the bursal tissues. In histopathology, cell depletion, atrophy and necrosis were observed in many bursal follicles with severe edema of interfollicular septa. Of the 35 bursal samples, 34 (97.1%) samples generated 254 bp product by RT-PCR. In conclusion, the results of virus isolation and identification by AGIDT, IHC and the analysis of viral genome by RT-PCR confirmed the outbreaks of acute IBD in commercial poultry of Bangladesh. Moreover, histopathological findings and results of AGIDT gave a clear indication that the isolates from six outbreaks were different from classical strain and it seems to be of very virulent strain. On the other hand, the isolates from the other outbreak were similar to the classical strain.

Financial Development and Income Inequality in Pakistan : An Application of ARDL Approach

MUHAMMAD SHAHBAZ;FARIDUL ISLAM 경제연구소 2011 Journal of Economic Development Vol.36 No.1

The paper examines the relationship between financial development and income inequality; and also explores if the Greenwood and Jovianvich (GJ) hypothesis applies to Pakistan. Using data from 1971 to 2005, the paper implements the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to cointegration to examine the existence of long run relation ships; and the error correction model (ECM) for the short run relationships. Stationarity properties of the series are tested by the ADF unit root test. The findings indicate that financial development reduces income inequality while financial instability aggravates it. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, we find economic growth worsens income distribution and that the latter is deteriorated further by trade openness. The paper does not find support for the GJ relation. Appropriate reforms aimed at developing a well-organized financial sector in Pakistan can help reduce income inequality.

Screening for drought tolerance in wheat genotypes by morphological and SSR markers

Muhammad Shahidul Haque,Nihar Ranjan Saha,Muhammad Tariqul Islam,Muhammad Monirul Islam,권수정,ROY SWAPAN KUMAR,우선희 한국작물학회 2021 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.24 No.1

Drought stress has become a significant abiotic stress for wheat in Bangladesh. This study aimed to explore drought tolerance in Bangladeshi wheat based on morpho-physiological and molecular traits. Ten wheat genotypes selected based on the previous research were grown in pots under control (100% field capacity) and drought stress (30% field capacity), applied from third leaf stage till maturity. Drought stress aff ected the yield contributing characters and significantly reduced grain yield. Drought susceptibility index and drought tolerance efficiency were used as criteria for selection. Sonalika, Sourav, and BARI gom-28 were least affected and emerged as drought tolerant. Durum, Pavon-76, BARIgom-25, and BARIgom-33 were moderately tolerant, while BARIgom-24, BINAgom-1, and BARIgom-20 were susceptible as they were severely affected. Thirteen SSR markers linked to drought tolerance were used to characterize 26 wheat genotypes. A total of 73 alleles were detected with an average of 5.62 alleles per locus. Polymorphism information content (PIC) and Nei’s(Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 70:3321–3323; 1973) gene diversity were 0.69 and 0.73, respectively. The coefficient of genetic similarity matrix for all 325 pairs of genotypes ranged from 0.15 to 1.00 with an average of 0.57. Similarity indices-based cluster analysis separated 26 genotypes into different groups. Two tolerant genotypes, Sourav and Sonalika, and two moderately tolerant genotypes, Durum and Pavon-76, as identified by morphological study were grouped in cluster 1. These four genotypes, therefore, passed the screening for drought tolerance in molecular and morphological studies and are promising for cultivation in the drought-prone areas of Bangladesh.

Topology-Based Flow-Oriented Adaptive Network Coding-Aware Routing Scheme for VANETs

( Muhammad Azhar Iqbal ),( Bin Dai ),( Muhammad Arshad Islam ),( Muhammad Aleem ),( Nguyen-son Vo ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.5

Information theory progression along with the advancements being made in the field of Vehicular Ad hoc NETworks (VANETs) supports the use of coding-aware opportunistic routing for efficient data forwarding. In this work, we propose and investigate an adaptive coding-aware routing scheme in a specific VANET scenario known as a vehicular platoon. Availability of coding opportunities may vary with time and therefore, the accurate identification of available coding opportunities at a specific time is a quite challenging task in the highly dynamic scenario of VANETs. In the proposed approach, while estimating the topology of the network at any time instance, a forwarding vehicle contemplates the composition of multiple unicast data flows to encode the correct data packets that can be decoded successfully at destinations. The results obtained by using OMNeT++ simulator reveal that higher throughput can be achieved with minimum possible packet transmissions through the proposed adaptive coding-aware routing approach. In addition, the proposed adaptive scheme outperforms static transmissions of the encoded packets in terms of coding gain, transmission percentage, and encoded packet transmission. To the best of our knowledge, the use of coding-aware opportunistic routing has not been exploited extensively in available literature with reference to its implications in VANETs.
