A Virtual Reality based Fire Training Simulator using Fire Dynamics Data

A computer-based fire training simulator using virtual reality technology helps the effectiveness of emergency response training for the firefighter or public users. Trainers navigate and experience the simulated fire environments and perform safe and iterative practice using the simulator. To fulfill their purpose, it must recreate fire phenomena with a high degree of accuracy and express them using realistic graphics. Usually, fire engineers develop and utilize CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) solvers to simulate fire and fluid behavior with a guaranteed accuracy range. This could provide the precise physical behavior of fluid to the training simulator system. We developed a virtual reality based fire training simulator using these fire dynamics simulation data in order to provide realistic and accurate graphics of fire phenomena. As a result, we could visualize 3D physical quantities related to fire, such as smoke flow, temperature, carbon monoxide, etc., which are calculated from the virtual fire scenario in a road tunnel. Through this system, a trainee was able to navigate and experience physical quantities of fires and a training supervisor could evaluate the training process in an immersive virtual environment.
A Hybrid Driving Simulator with Dynamics-Driven Motion and Data-Driven Motion

<P>In driving simulator technology, which reproduces the sense of motion in a virtual reality environment, various research activities are attempting to enhance realism. Recently studies have focused on a data-driven method of generating motion; this method records the motions of real objects and regenerates them in a simulation system. By providing a simulator with real motion data, this method can easily guarantee realism without complicated dynamics models and equation solvers. This paper proposes a hybrid method of generating controllable motion in a driving simulator through the application of a data-driven motion generation method and a dynamics-based motion generation method. The driving data acquired from a real vehicle are parsed into motion blocks with a dynamic model of the vehicle; the motion blocks are then stored in the database. In real-time simulation, a natural motion stream is generated by a process of searching for and synthesizing optimal motion blocks from the database and is synthesized with dynamics-based motion again. A more realistic sense of motion can be generated by parameterizing the current simulation state and user requirements.</P>
오픈소스 그래픽스 엔진을 이용한 가상현실 타일 디스플레이 시스템의 개발

In recent years, the use of high-resolution tiled display system which does not have restrictions on the size of the screen and implements various layout of tile is increasing in order to evaluate the digital mock-up in physical scale or explore large engineering data set in detail. In this study, we developed multi-channel distributed visualization system which provides a virtual reality-based visual contents using 3D open-source graphics engine. Efficient data structures and exchange methods were proposed as a scene synchronization technology in PC cluster environments. DLP-Cube based tiled visualization system which provides 5x2 layout of display wall was developed and we validated our approach using this system. In addition, we introduced integrated control program that administrates PC cluster environment in remote and controls the layout of display channels.
병사 훈련을 위한 2 차원 트레드밀 기반 이동 인터페이스 개념 설계

병사용 이동 인터페이스 기술은 시뮬레이터 환경에서 약진,사격 등 실전과 같은 동적 전투 환경을 제공하기 위해, 훈련자의 보행 이동을 이용한 탐색이 가능하도록 하는 몰입형 가상환경제공 기술이다. 본 연구에서는 현재까지 개발된 360 도 전방향 트레드밀 기반 이동 지원 인터페이스 기술을 분석하고, 효과적인 2 차원 트레드밀기반 이동 인터페이스를 개발하기 위한 하드웨어 시스템의 상위 개념설계 결과를 소개한다.
