The present study aims at formulation development and pharmacological evaluation of fxed dose combination of Bombyx mori (Abresham) extract, Flaxseed oil and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) against doxorubicin induced myocardial toxicity in rats. Formulation (emulsion) was prepared using dry gum method (continental method), by using pestle and mortar. The formulation was characterized by performing stability studies which includes focculation and creaming, cracking, phase inversion and accelerated studies (temperature and light). In-vivo pharmacological evaluation of Bombyx mori extract, Flaxseed oil, CoQ10 and its fxed dose combination (FDC) were then performed. Results obtained indicates that developed FDC and extract, Oil, CoQ10 passed all stability tests and signifcantly prevented drug induced increase in serum levels of AST, ALT, LDH, Creatinine and lipid profle (TC, LDL, VLDL and TG) and increases the levels of HDL and antioxidant parameters— SOD, GSH and CAT (in heart tissue). It also lowered the doxorubicin induced increase in heart weight due to hypertrophy. These results were also confrmed by histopathology. The results of this study strongly indicate the cardioprotective efect of fxed dose combination of BME, Flaxseed oil and CoQ10 against doxorubicin induced myocardial toxicity.

Background: To evaluate the perception of cancer patients toward treatment services and influencing factors and to inquire about the use of complementary alternative medicine (CAM). Materials and Methods: Information was obtained through pre-tested structured questionnaires completed by cancer patients during treatment at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Results: Of 242 patients, 137 (64.6%) accepted to enter this study. Most were Saudi (n=93, 68%), female (n=80, 58%), educated at university (n=71, 52%), married (n=97, 72%) and with breast cancer (n=36, 26%). One-hundred (73%) patients were satisfied with the services provided; 61% were Saudi. Ninety-four (68%) respondents were satisfied with the explanation of their cancer. Twenty-eight (21.6%) patients received CAM, of them 54.0% received herbal followed by rakia (21.0%), nutritional supplements/vitamins (7.0%) and Zamam water (18.0%), with significant differences among them (p =0.004). Seven (5%) patients believed this therapy could be used alone; 34 (25%) patients believed it could be used with other treatments, regardless of whether they themselves used this therapy. Fifty-three (53%) satisfied patients felt they received enough support; 31 (58%) patients received support from family and friends; 22 (41.6%) patients received support from the health-care team. Patients who received information about their disease from their physicians and those who felt they had enough support were more satisfied. The patients who took alternative treatment were older age, mostly female and highly educated but values did not reach significance. Conclusions: We stress enhancing the educational and supportive aspects of cancer-patient services to improve their treatment satisfaction and emphasize the need for increasing the educational and awareness programs offered to these patients.

Epileptic encephalopathies are genetically heterogeneous disorders which leads to epilepsy and cause neurological disorders. Seizure threshold 2 (SZT2) gene located on chromosome 1p34.2 encodes protein mainly expressed predominantly in the parietal and frontal cortex and dorsal root ganglia in the brain. Previous studies in mice showed that mutation in this gene can confers low seizure threshold, enhance epileptogenesis and in human may leads to facial dysmorphism, intellectual disability, seizure and macrocephaly. Objective of this study was to find out novel gene or novel mutation related to the gene phenotype. We have identified a large consanguineous Saudi family segregating developmental delay, intellectual disability, epilepsy, high forehead and macrocephaly. Exome sequencing was performed in affected siblings of the family to study the novel mutation. Whole exome sequencing data analysis, confirmed by subsequent Sanger sequencing validation study. Our results showed a novel homozygous mutation (c.9368G>A) in a substitution of a conserved glycine residue into a glutamic acid in the exon 67 of SZT2 gene. The mutation was ruled out in 100 unrelated healthy controls. The missense variant has not yet been reported as pathogenic in literature or variant databases. In conclusion, the here detected homozygous SZT2 variant might be the causative mutation that further explain epilepsy and developmental delay in this Saudi family.

Curcumin (CUR) has been investigated for its poor accessibility to a site of action or absorption and rapid metabolism to cope with the limited medication and cure applications. This article reviews numerous approaches, such as encapsulated surfactant/polymeric micelles, liposomes, micro/nano-spheres, nano-suspensions/composites, nanocomplex, films, and hydrogels for effective transfer of CUR to target sites. Chitosan (CS), and chitosan derivatives have been found to enhance therapeutic efficacy of CUR. CS/modified-CS based alginate, cyclodextrin, starch, dextran sulfate, ZnO, phytosomes, and poly(butyl) cyanoacrylate drug delivery matrices improved bioavailability, prolonged drug loading and permeability, sustained release rate, improved solubility and stability (prevent metabolic degradation) of CUR, consequently promoting various clinical applications. CS based polysaccharide, protein, and metal oxide drug delivery nano formulations advantageously participated to improve biological activities of CUR. We have attempted to summarize these delivery approaches, and reviewed future trends/strategies to permit the introduction of CUR as practical therapeutic drug.

A series of rationally designed ROS1 tyrosine kinase inhibitors 6a–9b with bipyridinyl pyrazole scaffold was synthesized and screened. The scaffold itself has showed an exclusive selectivity profile over ROS1 closely related kinases,ALKand c-Met. The aim of this study was to further explore the structure–activity relationships (SAR) of the bipyridinyl pyrazole core structure, and to improve its ROS1 inhibitory potency. The rational of this study was to explore the nature of the proposed binding site for the pyrazoleNHsubstituents. Careful selections of pyrazoleNHsubstituent groups along with their regioisomers were considered. The compounds exhibited high degree of potency, IC50 values of 21–159 nM. A detailed SAR of bipyridinyl pyrazole scaffold has been finally well established and the virtual screening strategy, through molecular docking, has been performed for this type of ROS1 kinase inhibitors and the docked poses along with the activity data have gone in consistent with SAR specifications.

Aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) have recently emerged as important alternatives to their solventbased counterparts for various applications due to increasing health and environmental awareness. A series of aqueous polyurethane dispersions containing carboxylate anion as hydrophilic pendant groups were synthesized through step growth polymerization reaction using hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BDO), dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) of different molecular weight. Effect of PEG molecular weight was investigated on molecular structure, contact angle measurement, and physical and adhesive properties of PU emulsions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to check the completion of polymerization reaction. Contact angle measurement indicated that the hydrophilicity of polymer increases by increasing molecular weight of PEG with a corresponding decrease in contact angle. Results of T-peel test showed a decrease in peel strength by increasing molecular weight of PEG. Moreover, solid contents%, drying time and storage stability suggested fast drying properties and greater stability of aqueous PU dispersions.

The present research work was performed to study the properties of polyurethanes (PU) based on ali-phatic diisocayanate and the effect of chemical structure of chain extenders. Two series of PUs were synthesized via twosteps polymerization technique. The PU samples constituted on hexamethylene diisocayanate (HDI), hydroxy-termi-nated polybutadiene (HTPB) and blends 1, 4 butanediol (BDO)/bisphenol A (BPA) and or 1, 4 butanediol (BDO)/bisphenol S (BPS) were prepared. Structural characterization was done using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopyduring and after the synthesis. The FTIR analysis confirmed the existence of proposed bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphe-nol S (BPS) based PU structures. Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) analysis gives information about the thermaltransition of all the polymer samples. Because of the difference of polarity between hard and soft segments of PU,microphase separation can occur. The degree of phase separation in the prepared PU was confirmed using scanningelectron microscope (SEM) technique. The SEM techniques present a distinctive chance to directly visualize the mor-phology of the polyurethanes.
Using Standard Deviation with Analogy-Based Estimation for Improved Software Effort Prediction
( Mohammad Ayub Latif ),( Muhammad Khalid Khan ),( Umema Hani ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2023 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.17 No.5
Software effort estimation is one of the most difficult tasks in software development whereas predictability is also of equal importance for strategic management. Accurate prediction of the actual cost that will be incurred in software development can be very beneficial for the strategic management. This study discusses the latest trends in software estimation focusing on analogy-based techniques to show how they have improved the accuracy for software effort estimation. It applies the standard deviation technique to the expected value of analogy-based estimates to improve accuracy. In more than 60 percent cases the applied technique of this study helped in improving the accuracy of software estimation by reducing the Magnitude of Relative Error (MRE). The technique is simple and it calculates the expected value of cost or time and then uses different confidence levels which help in making more accurate commitments to the customers.

Control of molecular weight distribution of polyethylene in gas-phase fluidized bed reactors
Mohammad Al-haj Ali,Emadadeen Ali AbdelHamid Ajbar,Khalid Alhumaizi 한국화학공학회 2010 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.27 No.1
This paper presents a feasibility study of the broadening of polyethylene molecular weight distribution produced using a multisite Ziegler-Natta catalyst in a fluidized-bed reactor. A nonlinear model predictive control algorithm, applied to a validated model of the reactor, is used for the on-line control of the entire molecular weight distribution of the produced polymer. Control of a target chain-length distribution is achieved by selecting a collection of points in the distribution and using them as set points for the control algorithm. An on-line Kalman filter is used to incorporate infrequent and delayed off-line molecular weight measurements. Through simulation the control algorithm is evaluated, under tracking conditions as well as plant-model mismatch. The results demonstrate that the control algorithm can regulate the entire molecular weight distribution with minimum steady state error. However, the efficiency of this approach is highly dependent on the dynamics of hydrogen inside the reactor.
