New Permeable Structure for Controlling Debris Flows in the Wenjiagou Gully
Yu-feng Liang,Chuan Liang,Hongwei Zhou,Feng-rong Yang,Miao Huo,Jia-wen Zhou 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.11
Aimed to control debris flows more effectively, we attempt to develop a new structure called a “sloping roof grill dam”, which consists of guidance walls, separation grills and lateral deposit areas. A series of flume tests were performed to verify the function of this new structure, focusing on the trapping efficiency (β ), deceleration efficiency (μ) and coarse-fine sediment separation extents (η) under different conditions of structure and debris flows. Experimental results show that both the trapping and deceleration efficiency increase with a decrease in permeability, whereas the separation extent shown the opposite effect. Multiple regression analysis indicates that β and η are linearly dependent on the permeability, deceleration efficiency and magnitudes of debris flow. In addition, an increase in beam gap can lead to an increase in the impact area downstream for the debris flow after the control of the structure. Finally, a two-level installation of the structure is tested to determine whether there is an enhancement of the debris control, which indicated that although the trapping effect of the two-level structure is considerably greater than that of a single-level structure (2.11 times at maximum), the separation extent of the two-level structure is not distinct and may be even lower.

Multidrug resistance of tumors has been a severe obstacle to the success of cancer chemotherapy. The study wants to investigate the reversal effects of imperatorin (IMP) on doxorubicin (DOX) resistance in K562/DOX leukemia cells, A2780/Taxol cells and in NOD/SCID mice, to explore the possible molecular mechanisms. K562/ DOX and A2780/Taxol cells were treated with various concentrations of DOX and Taol with or without different concentrations of IMP, respectively. K562/DOX xenograft model was used to assess anti-tumor effect of IMP combined with DOX. MTT assay, Rhodamine 123 efflux assay, RT-PCR, and Western blot analysis were determined in vivo and in vitro. Results showed that IMP significantly enhanced the cytotoxicity of DOX and Taxol toward corresponding resistance cells. In vivo results illustrated both the tumor volume and tumor weight were significantly decreased after 2-week treatment with IMP combined with DOX compared to the DOX alone group. Western blotting and RT-PCR analyses indicated that IMP downregulated the expression of P-gp in K562/DOX xenograft tumors in NOD/SCID mice. We also evaluated glycolysis and glutamine metabolism in K562/DOX cells by measuring glucose consumption and lactate production. The results revealed that IMP could significantly reduce the glucose consumption and lactate production of K562/DOX cells. Furthermore, IMP could also remarkably repress the glutamine consumption, α-KG and ATP production of K562/DOX cells. Thus, IMP may sensitize K562/DOX cells to DOX and enhance the antitumor effect of DOX in K562/DOX xenograft tumors in NOD/SCID mice. IMP may be an adjuvant therapy to mitigate the multidrug resistance in leukemia chemotherapy.

The electromagnetic anomaly observations before earthquake, have been confirmed by many cases of strong earthquakes. The analysis of earthquake magnetic anomaly is an effective approach for seismo-precursor detection. Traditional frequent mining methods for electromagnetic matrix datasets analysis often find the co-related items. However, these methods may miss the items which are differential co-related patters under different datasets. Mining these differential co-related patterns is more valuable for inferring potential knowledge. In this paper, we develop an algorithm, MSPattern, to mine maximal subspace differential co-expression patterns. MSPattern constructs a weighted undirected item-item relational graph firstly. Then all the maximal co-related patterns would be mined using item-growth method in above graph. MSPattern also utilizes several techniques for producing maximal patterns without candidate patterns maintenance. Evaluated by real electromagnetic matrix datasets and the gene expression datasets, the experimental results show our algorithm can find some potential knowledge for earthquake analysis, and MSPattern algorithm is more efficient than traditional ones. The performance of MSPattern is also evaluated by empirical p-value and gene ontology, the results show our algorithm can find statistical significant and biological differential co-expression patterns.

Traditional methods such as category theory and coalgebra have some drawbacks to analyze semantic behavior of indexed co-inductive data type. Aiming at the problem above, this paper explored indexed co-inductive data type in programming by Fibrations theory. Our main work was that we firstly made some basic logical structures of indexed co-inductive data type over a fibration such as truth and quotient functor; using endo-functor in base categories and their equation-preserving lifting in total categories, then we analyzed semantic behavior of indexed co-inductive data type; at last we briefly introduced applications of Fibrations theory on indexed co-inductive data type by example. Compared with traditional methods, brief descriptions and flexible expansibility of Fibrations theory can analyze semantic behavior of indexed co-inductive data type accurately, and superior abstractness of Fibrations theory doesn’t rely on particular computing environments to compute semantics.
VvMYBA6 in the promotion of anthocyanin biosynthesis and salt tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis
Miao Sun,Xin-Xin Feng,Jian-Jie Ga,Ri-He Peng,Quan-Hong Yao,Liang-Ju Wang 한국식물생명공학회 2017 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.11 No.5
Transcription factor MYB is a critical factor involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis and abiotic stress resistance of plants. This paper reports the functions of codon-optimized transcription factor VvMYBA6 expressed in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. VvMYBA6 overexpression resulted in significant increase of anthocyanin content, which also enhanced salt and mannitol tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. Besides, real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that overexpression of VvMYBA6 promoted the expression level of genes involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis, abscisic acid (ABA) synthesis, proline synthesis, stress responses and ROS scavenging under salt and mannitol stress. According to further analysis under salt and mannitol stress, overexpression of VvMYBA6 significantly increased ABA and proline content, activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT), as well as reduced the content of H2O2 and malonaldehyde (MDA). The results demonstrated that the overexpression of VvMYBA6 enhanced salt and mannitol tolerance based on increasing synthetic levels of anthocyanin and ABA in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. Therefore, the overexpression of VvMYBA6 could be widely used in promoting salt tolerance in plants.

This study proposed a 100 kHz, 5V/11V boost converter with an integrated gate driver for a power switching device using recessed E-mode MIS-HFETs. The integrated gate driver consisting of multi-stages DCFL (Direct-Coupled FET Logic) inverters and a buffer stage, has large input swing (up to 10 V) and wide noise margin with gate dielectric, which benefits applications requiring large gate swing without any additional drivers or level shifters. The impact of transistor size on rise times and fall times have been studied. Either buffer stage or larger width of DCFL inverter can reduce rise times from 2.4 μs to less than 0.5 μs at 100 kHz, so the output voltage of boost converter is increased by 10 % at a duty cycle of 0.7. However, large buffer width can result in high gate overshoot and oscillation, indicating careful design to balance switching speed and oscillation.

Abstract

Growing evidence suggests that the immune system of teleost is vulnerable to xenoestrogens, which are ubiquitous in the marine environment. This study detected and identified the major circulatory immune proteins deregulated by 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), which may be linked to fish susceptibility to pathogens in the marine medaka, Oryzias melastigma. Fish immune competence was determined using a host resistance assay to pathogenic bacteria Edwardsiella tarda. Females were consistently more susceptible to infection-induced mortality than males. Exposure to EE2 could narrow the sex gap of mortality by increasing infection-induced death in male fish. Proteomic analysis revealed that the major plasma immune proteins of adult fish were highly sexually dimorphic. EE2 induced pronounced sex-specific changes in the plasma proteome, with the male plasma composition clearly becoming “feminised”. Male plasma was found to contain a higher level of fibrinogens, WAP63 and ependymin-2-like protein, which are involved in coagulation, inflammation and regeneration. For the first time, we demonstrated that expression of C1q subunit B (C1Q), an initiating factor of the classical complement pathway, was higher in males and was suppressed in both sexes in response to EE2 and bacterial challenge. Moreover, cleavage and post-translational modification of C3, the central component of the complement system, could be altered by EE2 treatment in males (C3dg down; C3g up). Multiple regression analysis indicated that C1Q is possibly an indicator of fish survival, which warrants further confirmation. The findings support the potential application of plasma immune proteins for prognosis/diagnosis of fish immune competence. Moreover, this study provides the first biochemical basis of the sex-differences in fish immunity and how these differences might be modified by xenoestrogens.

Highlights

EE2 exposure reduces fish resistance to pathogen infection.

The plasma immune proteins of adult fish are sexually dimorphic.

Exogenous EE2 can modify the immune plasma proteome.

The interplay between plasma C1Q and exogenous EE2 warrants further investigation.

This paper presents a new game theory based method to control multi-agent systems under directed and time varying interaction topology. First, the sensing/communication matrix is introduced to cope with information sharing among agents, and to provide the minimal information requirement which ensures the system level objective is desirable. Second, different from traditional methods of controlling multi-agent systems, non-cooperative games are investigated to enforce agents to make ra-tional decisions. And a new game model, termed stochastic weakly acyclic game, is developed to cap-ture the optimal solution to the distributed optimization problem for multi-agent systems with directed topology. It is worth noting that the system level objective can be achieved at the points of the corre-sponding equilibriums of the new game model. The proposed method is illustrated with an example in smart grid where multiple distributed generators are controlled to reach the fair power utilization profile in the game formulation to ensure the aggregated power output are optimal.
