Computation of transonic internal flow around a biconvex airfoil with cavity
M. Mostaqur Rahman,A. B. M. Toufique Hasan,A.K.M. Sadrul Islam,S. Matsuo,T. Setoguchi 대한기계학회 2015 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.29 No.6
At transonic flow conditions, unsteady self-excited shock waves are frequently observed in several modern internal aeronautical applicationssuch as in turbine cascades, compressor blades, butterfly valves, fans, nozzles, diffusers and so on. The appearance of shock oscillationoften causes serious problems such as aero-acoustic noise, non-synchronous vibration (NSV), intense drag rise, high cycle fatiguefailure (HCF) and buffeting. In recent years, the effect of various passive means on the airfoil are investigated both experimentally andnumerically to find the effectiveness as a shock control device. In the present study, the transonic internal flow around an airfoil using acavity as a passive means of shock control was investigated numerically. Computational results are validated with available experimentaldata. Results showed that the airfoil with cavity significantly reduced the flow field unsteadiness such as the amplitude of pressure oscillationand root mean square of pressure oscillation.

We have macroscopically and microscopically investigated the localized surface plasmons (LSPs)on Ag anoparticles embedded in porous TiO2 glass. We have prepared TiO2 glass containing Ag nanoparticles (Ag/TiO2) by the sol-gel process and changed the porosity of the TiO2 glass by drying under a high vacuum condition. Using a spectrometer, we have macroscopically measured the absorption spectra (ABS) on all Ag nanoparticles and using near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM), we have microscopically measured the scattering spectra on a single Ag nanoparticle in the Ag/TiO2 after each drying process. Fitting the spectra derived from the numerical calculation based on the Mie theory to that evaluated from the ABS and the NSOM measurements, we have evaluated the deviation of the full width at half maximum evaluated by the experimental measurements from that derived from the theoretical calculation (FWHM) and the bound (Hashin-Shtrikman bounds) of the porosity of the TiO2 glass by the use of the Hashin Shtrikman limit, similar to the literature [1]. It has been found that the FWHM of the scattering spectra on the single Ag nanoparticle can be much smaller than one of the ABS on all Ag nanoparticles in the Ag/TiO2. This result is due to that the ABS is influenced by the aggregation and the size distribution of all Ag nanoparticles. Furthermore, on extrapolating from the plot of FWHM vs porosity, the FWHM is reduced to zero when the porosity is about 15 %.
Conformal symmetry for rotating D-branes
Cao, L.M.,Matsuo, Y.,Tsukioka, T.,Yoo, C.M. North-Holland Pub. Co 2009 Physics letters: B Vol.679 No.4
We apply the Kerr/CFT correspondence to the rotating black p-brane solutions. These solutions give the simplest examples from string theory point of view. Their near horizon geometries have structures of AdS, even though black p-brane solutions do not have AdS-like structures in the non-rotating case. The microscopic entropy which can be calculated via the Cardy formula exactly agrees with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.

In a CHS experiment, various types of transport barrier have been studied. An internal transport barrier (ITB) for electrons in a stellarator was first found in CHS, and the ITB for improved ion confinement was also found. H-mode (edge transport barrier) study in CHS showed many common features in transition to tokamak experiments, although the magnetic surface quantities are very different. Discharges with a combination of ETB and ITB were also found. Two heavy ion beam diagnostics in CHS showed a new direct measurement of zonal flow structure in toroidal confinement. The relation between the fluctuation and the transport barrier was also studied.
PASSlVE SHOCK CONTROL IN TRANSONIC FLOW FIELD
Matsuo S,Tanaka M,Setoguchi T,Kashimura H,Yasunobu T,Kim H.D Korea Society of Computational Fluids Engineering 2005 한국전산유체공학회지 Vol.10 No.1
In order to control the transonic flow field with a shock wave, a condensing flow was produced by an expansion of moist air on a circular bump model and shock waves were occurred in the supersonic parts of the fields. Furthermore, the additional passive technique of shock-boundary layer interaction using the porous wall with a cavity underneath was adopted in this flow field. The effects of these methods on the shock wave characteristics were investigated numerically. The result showed that the flow fields might be effectively controlled by the suitable combination between non-equilibrium condensation and the position of porous wall.
Sound modes in holographic hydrodynamics for charged AdS black hole
Matsuo, Y.,Sin, S.J.,Takeuchi, S.,Tsukioka, T.,Yoo, C.M. North Holland 2009 Nuclear Physics, Section B Vol.820 No.3
In the previous paper we studied the transport coefficients of quark-gluon plasma in finite temperature and finite density in vector and tensor modes. In this paper, we extend it to the scalar modes. We work out the decoupling problem and hydrodynamic analysis for the sound mode in charged AdS black hole and calculate the sound velocity, the charge susceptibility and the electrical conductivity. We find that Einstein relation among the conductivity, the diffusion constant and the susceptibility holds exactly.
