Effect of Buffalo Follicular Fluid Alone and in Combination with PMSG and M199 on in vitro Buffalo Oocyte Maturation

        Gupta, P.S.P.,Nandi, S.,Ravindranatha, B.M.,Sarma, P.V. 아세아태평양축산학회 2001 Animal Bioscience Vol.14 No.5

The effect of replacement of in vitro maturation medium completely with the buffalo follicular fluid (buFF) on in vitro oocyte maturation of buffalo oocytes was studied. 5 to 8 buffalo cumulus oocyte complexes were cultured in a single drop with each of the eight media studied i.e., M199+steer serum (10% v/v), M199+steer serum (10% v/v)+PMSG, M199+buFF (10% v/v), M199+buFF (10% v/v)+PMSG, M199+buFF (50% v/v), M199+buFF (50% v/v)+ PMSG, buFF (100%) and buFF+PMSG at $39^{\circ}C$ and 5% $CO_2$ in air for 24 h. Supplementation of M199 with Steer serum alone resulted in IVM rate of 35% only. When the above medium was supplemented with PMSG, the maturation rate rallied to 82%. Significant increase in the maturation rates were observed when M199 was supplemented with increasing levels of buFF. A further increase in the maturation rate was also obtained when PMSG was incorporated into the medium of M199 supplemented with buFF. The rate of maturation was to the tune of 91% when oocytes were matured in buFF alone which was increased non significantly on the addition of PMSG. Highest maturation rate (97%) obtained with M199+buFF (50%v/v)+PMSG did not differ significantly from that obtained by either M199+buFF (10%v/v)+PMSG or buFF+PMSG. It is suggested that buFF alone without any supplementation can form the effective in vitro maturation medium for buffalo oocytes.

      • Controllable one step copper coating on carbon nanofibers for flexible cholesterol biosensor substrates

        Bajaj, Bharat,Joh, Han I.,Jo, Seong M.,Kaur, Gurpreet,Sharma, Anjali,Tomar, Monika,Gupta, Vinay,Lee, Sungho The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016 Journal of Materials Chemistry B Vol.4 No.2

<P>Electrospun carbon nanofibers (CNFs) decorated with copper oxide nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using a one step and modified hydroxyl ion assisted alcohol reduction method. The X-ray diffraction pattern reveals the presence of (−111), (111) and (−202) crystal planes of monoclinic copper oxide (CuO). The CuO coated CNF air annealed at 250 °C exhibited an electrical conductivity of 251 S m−1. The CuO coated CNFs were employed as a novel flexible matrix for a cholesterol biosensor. The biosensor exhibited a high sensitivity of 75 μA mM−1 cm−2 over the linear range (0.12 mM to 12.93 mM) of cholesterol. This coating method offers easy and inexpensive processing with a flexible and robust supporting structure for biosensing applications.</P>

        MULTIOBJECTIVE SECOND-ORDER NONDIFFERENTIABLE SYMMETRIC DUALITY INVOLVING (F, $\alpha$, $\rho$, d)-CONVEX FUNCTIONS

Gupta, S.K.,Kailey, N.,Sharma, M.K. The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2010 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.28 No.5

In this paper, a pair of Wolfe type second-order nondifferentiable multiobjective symmetric dual program over arbitrary cones is formulated. Weak, strong and converse duality theorems are established under second-order (F, $\alpha$, $\rho$, d)-convexity assumptions. An illustration is given to show that second-order (F, $\alpha$, $\rho$, d)-convex functions are generalization of second-order F-convex functions. Several known results including many recent works are obtained as special cases.

Reduction of noxious Cr(VI) ion to Cr(III) ion in aqueous solutions using H2O2 and UV/H2O2 systems

        M.H. Dehghani,B. Heibati,A. Asadi,I. Tyagi,S. Agarwal,V.K. Gupta 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.33 No.-

Conversion of the toxic Cr(VI) to the less toxic Cr(III) in aqueous solutions by chemical andphotochemical reduction was carried out using H2O2 and UV radiation. The whole mechanism was wellelucidated and investigated using potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) as a standard model compound. Theeffects of potential factors affecting the reduction efficiency were well studied and optimized, theoptimized parameters such as concentration of H2O2 (from 0.5 to 1.5 M), pH (from 5 to 9), irradiationtime (0 to 140 min) and reaction time (0 to 120 min). Initial concentration of Cr(VI) in the solution wasvaried from 0.1 to 15 mg/L plays a significant role in the mechanism involves for the reduction of noxiousCr(VI) to less toxic Cr(III).

Modulation of Gamma Radiation-Inflicted Damage in Swiss Albino Mice by an Alcoholic Fraction of Podophyllum hexandrum Rhizome

        M.L. Gupta,P.K. Agrawala,Prem Kumar I,M. Devi,N.L. Soni,R.P. Tripathi 한국식품영양과학회 2008 Journal of medicinal food Vol.11 No.3

A partially characterized extract of Podophyllum hexandrum rhizomes was studied for its radioprotective potential in mice. A major portion of the podophyllotoxin was obtained from the extract by further fractionation. Acute toxicity and maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of a single intraperitoneal dose of the extract were studied in mice to evaluate the toxicity of the extract, if any. Radioprotective efficacy was determined in terms of survival against 10 Gy whole-body irradiation (WBI), protection against 1 Gy-induced chromosomal aberration (CA), and estimation of dose reduction factor (DRF) in irradiated and extract pretreated mice. The MTD was observed to be 60 mg/kg of body weight, whereas a dose of 90 mg/kg of body weight yielded 50% death in mice within 72 hours of intraperitoneal administration of the extract. A dose range of 15–20 mg/kg of body weight administered 2 hours before 10 Gy WBI of mice yielded 66% survival, while administration of 10–15 mg/kg of body weight of the extract 1 hour before WBI yielded more than 90% survival. A DRF of 1.625 was estimated for 10 and 15 mg/kg of body weight of the extract administered 1 hour before WBI. Further studies on modulation of 1 Gy-induced CA revealed significant radioprotective efficacy of the extract in mouse bone marrow cells. Partial removal of podophyllotoxin was useful in reducing toxicity of the extract without altering its radioprotective efficacy.

Short-term cyclic performance of metal-plate-connected wood truss joints

        Gupta, Rakesh,Miller, Thomas H.,Freilinger, Shawn M. Wicks Techno-Press 2004 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.17 No.5

The objective of this research was to evaluate the performance of metal-plate-connected truss joints subjected to cyclic loading conditions that simulated seismic events in the lives of the joints. We also investigated the duration of load factor for these joints. We tested tension splice joints and heel joints from a standard 9.2-m Fink truss constructed from $38-{\times}89-mm$ Douglas-fir lumber: 10 tension splice joints for static condition and for each of 6 cyclic loading conditions (70 joints total) and 10 heel joints for static condition and for each of 3 cyclic loading conditions (40 joints total). We evaluated results by comparing the strengths of the control group (static) with those of the cyclic loading groups. None of the cyclic loading conditions showed any strength degradation; however, there was significant stiffness degradation for both types of joint. The results of this research show that the current duration of load factor of 1.6 for earthquake loading is adequate for these joints.

      • Antitumor and antioxidant status of Galega purpurea root in Ehrlich ascites carcinoma bearing Swiss albino mice

Gupta, M,Mazumder, UK,Gomathi, P Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2007 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.7 No.4

The present study was designed to determine the antitumor and antioxidant properties of methanol extract from the root of Galega purpurea (Papilionaceae) (MEGP) against Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC) bearing Swiss albino mice. Acute and short-term toxicity studies were performed initially in order to ascertain the safety of MEGP. The effect of MEGP on the growth of transplantable murine tumor, life span of EAC bearing hosts and simultaneous alterations in the hematological profile and liver biochemical parameters (lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes) were estimated. The MEGP showed decrease in tumor volume, packed cell volume and viable cell count and increases the nonviable cell count and mean survival time thereby increasing life span of EAC tumor bearing mice. Hematological profile reverted to more or less normal levels in extract treated mice. Treatment with MEGP decreased the levels of lipid peroxidation and increased the levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase and catalase. The results suggested that the methanol extract of Galega purpurea root exhibited antitumor effect by modulating lipid peroxidation and augmenting antioxidant defense system in EAC bearing mice.

Rheological and mechanical properties of ABS/PC blends

        M.M.K. Khan,R.F. Liang,R.K. Gupta,S. Agarwal 한국유변학회 2005 Korea-Australia rheology journal Vol.17 No.1

Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS), Polycarbonate (PC) and their alloys are an important class of engineering thermoplastics that are widely used for automotive industry, computer and equipment housings. For the process of recycling mixtures of ABS and PC, it is desirable to know how sensitive the blend properties are to changes in compositions. It was for this reason that blends of virgin ABS and virgin PC at five different compositions, namely, 15%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 85% by weight of ABS were prepared and characterised by rheological and mechanical measurements. Rheological properties of these blends in steady, oscillatory and transient step shear and mechanical properties, namely, tensile strength, elongation-at-break and Izod impact strength are reported. The results show that PC behaves in a relatively Newtonian manner, but ABS exhibits significant shear thinning. The ABS-rich blends show a trend that is similar to that of ABS, while PC-rich blends, namely 0% and 15%, exhibit a nearly Newtonian behaviour. However, at a fixed shear rate or frequency, the steady shear or the dynamic viscosity varied respectively in a non-monotonic manner with composition. Except for 15% blend, the viscosities of other blends fall into a narrow band indicating a wide-operation window of varying blend ratio. The blends exhibited a lower viscosity than either of the two pure components. The other noticeable feature was that the blends at 70% and 85% ABS content had a higher G’ than pure ABS, indicating an enhancement of elastic effect. The tensile yield strength of the blends followed the ‘rule of mixtures’ showing a decreasing value with the increase of ABS content in PC. However, the elongation-at-break and the impact strength did not appear to obey this ‘rule of mixtures,’ which suggests that morphology of the blends also plays a significant role in determining the properties. Indeed, scanning electron micrographs of the fracture surfaces of the different blends validate this hypothesis, and the 15% blend is seen to have the most distinct morphology and correspondingly different behaviour and properties.

      • Hepatoprotective activity of Indigofera aspalathoides extract against CCl4-induced liver damage

        Gupta, M.,Mazumder, U.K.,Haldar, P.K.,Manikandan, L.,Senthilkumar, G.P.,Kander, C.C. Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2004 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.4 No.2

The plant Indigofera aspalathoides are used by a large number of tribes in India for the treatment of various hepatic disorder. The methanol extract of Indigofera aspalathoides (MEIA) was evaluated for its effect on carbontetrachloride $(CCl_{4})$ induced liver damage. Biochemical parameters such as serum glutamine oxaloacetate trasaminase (SGOT), serum glutamine pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total serum protein (TP), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBRS) and glutathione content of the liver were estimated to assess liver function and metabolism. Biochemical observations suggest that methanol extract of Indigofera aspalathoides (MEIA) significantly restored the liver function and metabolism towards normal condition in $CCl_{4}$-induced hepatic damage.

        M. Rajabi,B. Mirza,K. Mahanpoor,M. Mirjalili,F. Najafi,O. Moradi,H. Sadegh,R. Shahryari-ghoshekandi,M. Asif,I. Tyagi,S. Agarwal,Vinod Kumar Gupta 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.34 No.-

MWCNTs functionalized with the carboxylate group are used as efficient adsorbent for the rapid removaland fast adsorption of malachite green from the aqueous solutions. The optimized contact time and pHwere 10 min and 9, respectively. The effect of temperature revealed that the adsorption capacity ofmalachite green (MG) dye increased with increasing contact time, temperature and pH of the workingsolution. The adsorption equilibrium and kinetic data was well fitted and found to be in good agreementwith the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo second order kinetic model respectively with highcorrelation coefficient.
