Parameter Extraction Using the Output Characteristics of Thin-Film Transistors in Weak-Conduction and Triode-Region

        Carlos Avila-Avendano,Adelmo Ortiz-Conde,Jesus A. Caraveo-Frescas,Manuel A. Quevedo-Lopez 한국전기전자재료학회 2021 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.22 No.4

A novel method for the parameter extraction of thin-fi lm transistors in weak-conduction and triode-region is presented. The parameter extraction is performed using two different and consistent functions based on the integration of experimental output characteristic. The method was tested using measured data of polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin-film transistors (TFTs) and the results were compared with previously reported conventional methods.

        Novel Low-Power High-dB Range CMOS Pseudo-Exponential Cells

Carlos Aristoteles De La Cruz Blas,Antonio Lopez-Martin 한국전자통신연구원 2006 ETRI Journal Vol.28 No.6

In this paper, novel CMOS pseudo-exponential circuits operating in a class-AB mode are presented. The pseudoexponential approximation employed is based on second order equations. Such terms are derived in a straightforward way from the inherent nonlinear currents of class-AB transconductors. The cells are appropriate to be integrated in portable equipment due to their compactness and very low power consumption. Measurement results from a fabricated prototype in a 0.5 μm technology reveal a range of 45 dB with errors lower than ±0.5 dB, a power consumption of 100 μW, and an area of 0.01 mm2.

Analysis of Workplace Accidents in Automotive Repair Workshops in Spain

Lopez-Arquillos, Antonio,Rubio-Romero, Juan Carlos Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute 2016 Safety and health at work Vol.7 No.3

Background: To analyze the effects of the factors associated with different types of injury (superficial wounds, dislocations and sprains, bone fractures, concussion and internal injuries, burns scalding and freezing) caused by occupational accidents in automotive repair workshops. Methods: Study of a sample consisting of 89,954 industry accidents reported from 2003 to 2008. Odds ratios were calculated with a 95% confidence interval. Results: Belonging to a small company is a risk factor for suffering three of the five types of injury studied. Women are less likely to suffer burns and superficial wounds, and more likely to suffer dislocations or sprains. Foreign workers are more likely to suffer concussion and internal injuries. Conclusion: Health and safety strategies and accident prevention measures should be individualized and adapted to the type of worker most likely to be injured in each type of accident. Occupational health and safety training courses designed according to worker profile, and improving the participation of the workers in small firms creating regional or roving safety representatives would improve working conditions.

Lopez-Mendoza, Javier,Vargas-Flores, Edgar,Mouneu-Ornelas, Nicole,Altamirano-Arcos, Carlos Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surge 2021 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.48 No.4

Background The result of illicit polymer injection is chronic inflammation with foreign-body granuloma (FBG) formation. Treatment can be divided into medical and surgical. Some patients develop severe complications with need surgical treatment. This study aims to describe patients who underwent surgical removal of the FBGs and autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA); additionally, we evaluated the quality of life after surgery. Methods In this retrospective single-center study, the authors examined data of patients who underwent surgical removal of FBG caused by illicit polymer injection for cosmetic purposes and confirmed ASIA from 2015 to 2020 by three different surgical approaches. Descriptive summary statistics were reported on patient demographics, presenting symptoms and clinical examination features, treatment strategies, histopathology reports and quality of life. Results The cohort included 11 female patients with FBGs and ASIA. The most affected anatomical zones were the combination of gluteal region, thighs and legs (40%); and thighs with legs (20%). Main presentation was: skin hyperpigmentation (90.9%), skin induration (63.6%), chronic fatigue (63.6%), and ulcers (36.4%). Surgical modalities consisted of: ultrasonic-assisted liposuction in four patients (36.4%); open en bloc excision and primary closure in four patients (36.4%); and open en bloc excision and microsurgical reconstruction in three patients (27.2%). The postoperative quality of life visual analog scale score was 83.9. Conclusions ASIA treatment represents a challenge for the plastic surgeon. Adequate surgical treatment emphasizing, when possible, the total or near-total resection of the FBG must be performed to improve ASIA evolution.

Distribution of red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV) antigens in nervous and non-nervous organs of European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) during the course of an experimental challenge

        Benjamin Lopez-Jimena,Esther Garcia-Rosado,Kim Dawn Thompson,Alexandra Adams,Carlos Infante,Juan Jose Borrego,Maria del Carmen Alonso 대한수의학회 2012 JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE Vol.13 No.4

The distribution of red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV) antigens was examined by immunohistochemistry in the nervous and non-nervous organs of juvenile European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) during the course of an intramuscular infection. Histological changes resulting from the infection were evaluated from 3 days to 2 months post-infection. The specific antibody response was also studied 2 months post-challenge. Viral proteins were present throughout the experimental period in the retina (inner nuclear layer, ganglion layer, outer limiting membrane, and outer plexiform layer), brain (cerebellum and tectum opticum), and liver (hepatocytes and endothelial cells). These proteins were also observed in the renal tubular cells, white pulp of spleen, and in fibroblasts and cartilage of caudal fin. This is the first report of RGNNV proteins appearing in these organs, where the immunostaining was only detected at certain sampling times after the onset of mortality. Brain and retina of virus-exposed fish showed high levels of vacuolation, while accumulation of fat vacuoles was observed in the liver. RGNNV infection also induced a specific antibody response as measured by an ELISA. In summary, this is the first study demonstrating the presence of viral proteins in cells of caudal fin, kidney and spleen of European seabass.

Fuzzy Linguistic Recommender Systems for the Selective Diffusion of Information in Digital Libraries

Porcel, Carlos,Ching-Lopez, Alberto,Bernabe-Moreno, Juan,Tejeda-Lorente, Alvaro,Herrera-Viedma, Enrique Korea Information Processing Society 2017 Journal of information processing systems Vol.13 No.4

The significant advances in information and communication technologies are changing the process of how information is accessed. The internet is a very important source of information and it influences the development of other media. Furthermore, the growth of digital content is a big problem for academic digital libraries, so that similar tools can be applied in this scope to provide users with access to the information. Given the importance of this, we have reviewed and analyzed several proposals that improve the processes of disseminating information in these university digital libraries and that promote access to information of interest. These proposals manage to adapt a user's access to information according to his or her needs and preferences. As seen in the literature one of the techniques with the best results, is the application of recommender systems. These are tools whose objective is to evaluate and filter the vast amount of digital information that is accessible online in order to help users in their processes of accessing information. In particular, we are focused on the analysis of the fuzzy linguistic recommender systems (i.e., recommender systems that use fuzzy linguistic modeling tools to manage the user's preferences and the uncertainty of the system in a qualitative way). Thus, in this work, we analyzed some proposals based on fuzzy linguistic recommender systems to help researchers, students, and teachers access resources of interest and thus, improve and complement the services provided by academic digital libraries.

Relief of Night-time Symptoms Associated With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Following 4 Weeks of Treatment With Pantoprazole Magnesium; The Mexican Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Working Group

( Juan Carlos Lopez Alvarenga ),( William Orr ),( Jose Antonio Vargas Romero ),( Jose Maria Remes Troche ),( Miguel Morales Arambula ),( Julio Cesar Soto Perez ),( Gualberto Mateos Perez ),( Sergio So 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회 2014 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.20 No.1

Background/Aims To evaluate the effectiveness of pantoprazole magnesium (pantoprazole-Mg) 40 mg in the relief of esophageal and extra- esophageal symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), particularly night-time symptoms. Methods Patients (aged 18-50 years) with 3-month history of heartburn and/or acid regurgitation plus at least one other symptom in the last week were enrolled in a nationwide, prospective and observational study in Mexico. Patients received pantoprazole-Mg 40 mg once daily during 4 weeks. Symptoms were assessed through a physician-administered structured interview and the patient- completed ReQuest in PracticeTM questionnaire. Night-time GERD was defined as arousal from sleep during the night due to GERD-associated symptoms. Results Out of 4,343 patients included at basal visit, 3,665 were considered for the effectiveness per protocol analysis. At baseline, patients had a median of 8 GERD related symptoms. Patients with night-time GERD symptoms (42.7%) were more likely to have extra-esophageal symptoms (P < 0.001) than other GERD patients. Pantoprazole-Mg 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks improved a broad range of GERD-associated symptoms from baseline (80% reduction on physicians assessments; 68-77% reduction on ReQuest in PracticeTM dimensions), including both day- and night-time GERD symptoms; improvements were the greatest for extra-esophageal symptoms in patients with night-time symptoms. Pantoprazole-Mg was well tolerated. Conclusions Pantoprazole-Mg 40 mg significantly improved a broad range of esophageal and extra-esophageal GERD related symptoms including sleep disturbances, as well as well-being, in patients with daytime or night-time GERD, making it a good option for patients with GERD, especially when extra-esophageal and night-time symptoms are present. Physicians and Patients Measure Different Dimension on Assessment for Gatroesophageal Reflux Disease-Related Symptoms

( Juan Carlos Lopez Alvarenga ),( Sergio Sobrino Cossio ),( Ronnie Fass ),( Jose A Vargas Romero ) 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회(구 대한소화관운동학회) 2011 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.17 No.4

Background/Aims Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a highly prevalent disease. Assessing treatment efficacy is critical in that clinical endpoints are properly evaluated. Clinical tools for symptoms severity assessment should be discriminative, predictive and evaluative. Methods In this study we compared a patient-oriented symptoms evaluation (ReQuest(TM)) vs a structured interview assessment initiated by a physician (sickness impact profile [SIP]). Both questionnaires were analyzed in a multidimensional space using latent factors. Five dimensions were found: 1 for the short ReQuest(TM) questionnaire and 4 for SIP. Results We included 1,522 women and 1,296 men; mean age was 36 ± 7 years, and mean body mass index was 26 ± 4. The score questionnaire assessment evaluation by physicians and patients did not correlate between them (between r = 0.03 and 0.26) except nausea and sleep disorder (r = 0.45 and 0.51) but both were sensitive enough to detect changes after treatment (P < 0.05). Medical specialty of the physician showed effect on the score of both, ReQuestTM and SIP evaluation. Questionnaire variance decomposition due to specialist was only 2% (P < 0.05). Conclusions While both evaluations are orthogonal (non-correlated), meaning patients and physicians measured diverse aspects of the same disease, they both were able to measure patient`s improvement with treatment. Species distribution modeling for wildlife management: Ornamental butterflies in México

        Jazmin Jacinto-Padilla,Jose Lopez-Collado,Catalino Jorge Lopez-Collado,Carlos Gilberto García-García 한국응용곤충학회 2017 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.20 No.2

Butterflies are biotic natural resources that have an economic value in different countries because of their aesthetic features. The objective of this paper was to estimate the geographic distribution of 17 species considered of ornamental importance in México. Presence data was compiled from specialized sources and public databases. Distribution maps were generated for each species with MaxEnt, using predictor variables related to temperature and precipitation. A spatial similarity and species diversity analysis was applied to group the species based on their geographic distribution. The distribution models were considered appropriate based on the Area Under the Curve, which ranged from 0.75 to 0.94 computed with independent data. Three geographic groups were identified; the first group had the largest coverage (% of national area) and comprised the species Pyrisitia proterpia (59%), Danaus gilippus (70%) and Zerene cesonia (72%). The second group ranged in coverage from 23% (Archaeoprepona demophon) to 50% (Anteos maerula), while the third group had the smallest coverage, ranging from 17% to 40%. Overall, the species diversity presents a latitudinal gradient, increasing from the north to the southern, Neotropical part of México. States with the highest species potential are Veracruz, Tabasco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Chiapas, Oaxaca, and most of the Yucatan peninsula. The application of these results to use butterflies to make souvenirs and as components of ecotourism is discussed.
