又峰 趙熙龍의 梅花圖

        金志善(Kim Jisun) 미술사연구회 2007 미술사연구 Vol.- No.21

In the Late Joseon Dynasty, the cultural environment of the capital, Hanseong, was clearly different from that of other provinces, and connoisseurship became popular among admirers of antique works of Chinese calligraphy or paintings seeking to express their loftiness and refinement. Moreover, the demand for artistic works increased greatly. Most studies have estimated that Jo Huiryong(1789~1866), a painter who was well-known for his plum blossom paintings in the 19th century, was influenced by Kim Jeonghui. Although Kim Jeonghui was an influential leader among painters, the works of middle class artists including Jo seem to have been painted to suit the taste of collectors. Jo's plum blossom paintings show richer and more magnificent pictorial images, unlike the classical literati representatives of Kim's. Because Jo rarely dated his own works, it is difficult to categorize them chronologically. As such, this study classifies almost all of his works by size and categorizes them vertically hanging scrolls of plum blossoms, small size leaf paintings, and panoramic view of plum blossoms in a form of screen panels. In his narrow vertical type of works, Jo attempted to express a sense akin to stone inscription calligraphy, by representing the twisted branches of plum trees with strong, sharp, and straight lines similar to the calligraphic style. He also painted many small leaf paintings using ink in an improvised painting style of the classical literati. Moreover, he started to produce huge panoramic plum screen panels for the first time during the Joseon period. In particular, Jo's panel works are characterized by their grand size and spectacular images. He focused on the expressive potentials of brush and ink, projecting his personal interpretation of the painted subject. Jo adapted the style of the Yangzhou School while developing his own style, and became influential among his contemporaries and to the painters of the next generation. Jo's plum blossom paintings are not only emblems of the literati's classical painting but also ideal ink plum images that represent the artist as a solitary creator.

Vol.16 No.7

(Background and Purpose) In 2013, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs proposed the 6th industry as a means to strengthen the competitiveness of local agriculture. The 6th industry is a converged type of primary industrial agriculture and secondary industrial manufacturing, as well as tertiary industrial services. Since local governments have supported the 6th industry in different ways, the service space that links not only production and processing but also experience, tourism, and sales has been created in the region. However, the qualitative state of the 6th industry’s service space is insufficient compared to the quantitative support it has received in terms of its policies. This study aims to explore the 6th industrial service space by studying spatial design and space branding to improve the quality of the service space and to add to local values. (Method) The concept was initially understood and a framework was established for the Korean case through a literature review on the 6th industry’s service space and space branding. Based on the analysis of previous research and case studies, a direction of the 6th industry service space design was set and applied to spatial design and construction. The Soybean-Samdong, a 6th industry service space located in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, was taken as the case study. (Results) The 6th industry service space is a starting point for the formation of regional exchanges, and it is important to provide a differentiated experience based on local resources and characteristics. This can help not only form and maintain relationships with consumers but also continuously develop local industry. Analysis of the case study illustrated the difficulty of providing a differentiated experience to consumers through the 6th industry’s service space because the space was designed to work universally and on a general scale without its own characteristics. Space branding based on local resources and regional characteristics should be applied to spatial design to provide consumers with special experiences and to establish the identity of the 6th industry’s service space. (Conclusions) In the 6th industry service space, space branding that reflects local resources and regional characteristics not only gives consumers a memorable impression but also delivers complex information through spatial design. Therefore, spatial design that applies space branding could be one of the important ways to activate relationships with consumers by providing repetitive but fresh and new experiences. As a result, local industries can establish their own identities and regional values to improve the quality and sustainability of spaces.

        Kim, Min Kyoon,Han, Wonshik,Moon, Hyeong-Gon,Ahn, Soo Kyung,Kim, Jisun,Lee, Jun Woo,Kim, Ju-Yeon,Kim, Taeryung,Lee, Kyung-Hun,Kim, Tae-Yong,Han, Sae-Won,Im, Seock-Ah,Kim, Tae-You,Park, In Ae,Noh, Dong Korean Cancer Association 2015 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.47 No.2

Purpose

The ability to accurately predict the likelihood of achieving breast conservation surgery (BCS) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) is important in deciding whether NCT or surgery should be the first-line treatment in patients with operable breast cancers.

Materials and Methods

We reviewed the data of 513 women, who had stage II or III breast cancer and received NCT and surgery from a single institution. The ability of various clinicopathologic factors to predict the achievement of BCS and tumor size reduction to ≤ 3 cm was assessed. Nomograms were built and validated in an independent cohort.

Results

BCS was performed in 50.1% of patients, with 42.2% of tumors reduced to ≤ 3 cm after NCT. A multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that smaller initial tumor size, longer distance between the lesion and the nipple, absence of suspicious calcifications on mammography, and a single tumor were associated with BCS rather than mastectomy (p < 0.05). Negative estrogen receptor, smaller initial tumor size, higher Ki-67 level, and absence of in situ component were associated with residual tumor size ≤ 3 cm (p < 0.05). Two nomograms were developed using these factors. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves for nomograms predicting BCS and residual tumor ≤ 3 cm were 0.800 and 0.777, respectively. The calibration plots showed good agreement between the predicted and actual probabilities.

Conclusion

We have established a model with novel factors that predicts BCS and residual tumor size after NCT. This model can help in making treatment decisions for patients who are candidates for NCT.

These findings suggest the possibility that Gardenia extract could be developed as an anticancer modality.

      • TMBIM family proteins contributes to the neuronal cell survival and differentiation during development by controlling apoptosis and SOCE

        Jisun Kim,Hyun-Kyoung Kim,Kashi Raj Bhattarai,Raghu Patil Junjappa,Thoufiqul Alam Riaz,Sushil Bhandari,Seong-Kyu Choe,Hyung-Ryung Kim,Han-Jung Chae 한국실험동물학회 2021 한국실험동물학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2021 No.7

TMBIM family proteins (TMBIM 1 to 6) regulate many cellular vital functions such as apoptosis, ER calcium regulation, proliferation and protection against stress. As apoptosis and intracellular calcium play a vital role during the early development. TMBIM family proteins, being involved in antiapoptosis as well as calcium regulation, are supposed to have a role in early developmental period. However, the majority of TMBIM family proteins are sparsely studied in relation to their functions in the developmental process. To understand the importance of TMBIM family proteins in the early development the neuronal development was focused. In this study, we observed that the mRNA levels of TMBIM family genes increased significantly upon the retinoic acid-induction in P19 cells. Knockdown of TMBIM genes by shRNA significantly affected the cell survival and subsequent neuronal differentiation of P19 cells. In addition, TMBIM gene suppression resulted in the reduced calcium refilling SOCE activity, which plays a potential role in neuronal development. Reduced neuronal markers expression was observed in knockdown P19 cells upon differentiation induction. Furthermore, zebrafish was used as an in-vivo model and confirmed that the zebra fish TMBIM proteins have high sequence homology with respective human TMBIM proteins. Suppression of TMBIM proteins expression with respective morpholino showed the common deformities in the brain region but the level of deformity was varied. Suppression of TMBIM proteins lead to the excessive apoptosis in the brain region and decreased the expression of neural progenitor (ascl1b, nestin) and differentiation markers (map2, otx2 and neurod-D). Co-injection of human TMBIM 1-6 mRNAs individually with respective morpholino partially rescued the phenotypes. Altogether, this study supports the role for TMBIM family proteins in the embryo development through regulation of apoptosis as well as SOCE activity.

Effects of HSP27 downregulation on PDT resistance through PDT-induced autophagy in head and neck cancer cells

        KIM, JISUN,LIM, HAESOON,KIM, SANGWOO,CHO, HYEJUNG,KIM, YONG,LI, XIAOJIE,CHOI, HONGRAN,KIM, OKJOON Spandidos Publications 2016 Oncology Reports Vol.35 No.4

We previously reported that photodynamic therapy (PDT) induces cell death in head and neck cancer through both autophagy and apoptosis. Regulation of cell death by autophagy and apoptosis is important to enhance the effects of PDT. Autophagy maintains a balance between cell death and PDT resistance. Downregulation of heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) induces PDT resistance in head and neck cancer cells. Furthermore, HSP70 regulates apoptosis during oxidative stress. However, the role of HSPs in PDT-induced cell death through autophagy and apoptosis is unclear. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated the effects of HSP27 and HSP70 on PDT-induced cell death of oral cancer cells through autophagy and apoptosis. Cancer cells were treated with hematoporphyrin at varying doses, followed by irradiation at 635 nm with an energy density of 5 mW/cm(2). We determined the changes in HSP expression by determining the levels of PARP-1 and LC3II in PDT-resistant cells. Furthermore, we assessed cell death signaling after downregulating HSPs by transfecting specific siRNAs. We observed that PDT decreased HSP27 expression but increased HSP70 expression in the head and neck cancer cells. Treatment of cells with LC3II and PARP-1 inhibitors resulted in upregulation of HSP70 and HSP27 expression, respectively. Downregulation of HSP27 and HSP70 induced cell death and PDT resistance through autophagy and apoptosis. Moreover, downregulation of HSP27 in PDT-resistant cells resulted in enhanced survival. These results indicate that the regulation of HSP27 and HSP70 plays a principal role in increasing the effects of PDT by inducing autophagic and apoptotic cell death.

      • Sampling Time and pH-Dependences of Silicon Nanowire Ion-Sensitive Field-Effect Transistor-Based Biosensors

        Kim, Seohyeon,Kim, Jungmok,Jang, Jungkyu,Mo, Hyun-Sun,Kim, Dong Myong,Choi, Sung-Jin,Park, Byung-Gook,Kim, Dae Hwan,Park, Jisun American Scientific Publishers 2017 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.17 No.5

Silicon nanowire ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (SiNW ISFET) is widely used for the label-free detection and real-time analysis in chemical and biological experiments. However, hysteresis and dynamic transfer characteristic related to time dependence are main drawbacks of SiNW ISFET. By changing hold time (T-H), delay time (T-D), and pH level under aqueous environment, we explained mechanism of hysteresis and dynamic transfer characteristic through analyzing the electrical characteristics. We believe that the results found in this study are able to minimize the effects caused by hysteresis, which contributes to advanced biosensing experiment in the future.
