• Diagnostic Utility of p63 (Ab-1) and (Ab-4) Tumor Markers in the Squamous Cell Carcinomas of Head and Neck

Khan, Nauman Rauf,Khan, Amna Nauman,Bashir, Saira,Khan, Ayyaz Ali,Suleman, Bilquis A.,Chaudhry, Saima Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3

P63 is a gene product required in cell cycle regulation which plays vital roles in tumor differentiation. Aims of the present study were to assess the frequency, pattern, sensitivity and specificity of two p63 protein clones P63 4A4 and P63 4A4+Y4A3 in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Thirty cases of head and neck region SCC diagnosed on the basis of H&E staining were examined along with 60 cases of head and neck region biopsies other than squamous cell carcinoma, negative on H&E staining, were taken as control. Immunostaining was performed on slides according to the Thermo Scientific UltraVision LP detection System. P63 4A4+Y4A3 clone is more sensitive 96.6% in comparison to 86% in P63 4A4 with having greater NPV of 98.3%. The results signify the importance of P63 4A4+Y4A3 marker over the old markers and may be used as a confirmatory marker of squamous cell carcinoma.

      • Effective Basin-Blade Configurations of a Gravitational Water Vortex Turbine for Microhydropower Generation

Khan, Nauman Hanif,Cheema, Taqi Ahmad,Chattha, Javed Ahmad,Park, Cheol Woo American Society of Civil Engineers 2018 Journal of energy engineering Vol.144 No.4

Among various microhydropower plants, gravitational water vortex power plants are emerging because of their simple installation, reduced setup time, and minimal maintenance cost. The methodology and the selection of a suitable basin and turbine blade combinations are yet to be explained by researchers. This study attempts to investigate the parameters that affect the formation and strength of a vortex for efficient power generation using an artificially induced air-core vortex. Computational fluid dynamics based on a two-phase flow analysis of the vortex formation at different basin parameters resulted in the selection of a suitable configuration of the basin. The basin was then used in the blade analysis with different blade shapes at various load conditions. An experimental setup was also fabricated for the validation of the numerical results, in which a close agreement was observed. The proposed methodology could be used to determine the plant specifications and the blade size and shape for various flow rates and heads. The role of vortex height in determining the performance of the gravitational water vortex turbine was explored. Among the four types of blades used in the study, cross-flow blades have shown the best efficiency for the same discharge and head conditions.

Photocatalytic degradation of bromophenol blue in aqueous medium using chitosan conjugated magnetic nanoparticles

        Hamayun Khan,Abdul Kabir Khalil,Adnan Khan,Khalid Saeed Ibrahim,Nauman Ali 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.10

Three different chitosan conjugated magnetic nanoparticles (CCMN) of Co, Ni and Fe were prepared using co-precipitation method. The prepared CCMN were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Xray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopic techniques. The SEM results showed a smooth surface morphology with almost uniform particle size and irregular shape structure for all CCMN. The XRD study revealed the crystalline structure in case of Co-CCMN and Ni-CCMN, while amorphous nature of Fe-CCMN was observed. The particle size of the prepared CCMN was found to be <95 nm, as confirmed from SEM and XRD analyses. Similarly, FT-IR analysis showed the incorporation and conjugation of Co, Ni and Fe magnetic nanoparticles into the chitosan polymer matrix. The point of zero charge (PZC) was found to be 7.41 for Co-CCMN and Ni-CCMN and 7.70 for Fe-CCMN. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared CCMN was investigated under UV light irradiation (254 nm and 15 W) in the aqueous medium using bromophenol blue (BPB). The photocatalytic process was monitored by UV-visible spectrophotometer for different irradiation times (0 to 10 h). The results showed that all the prepared CCMN displayed good to excellent photocatalytic property where the highest degradation was exhibited by Fe-CCMN (94.5%), followed by Co-CCMN (85.1%) and Ni-CCMN (83.0%). The prepared catalysts were recycled and reused, maintaining good photocatalytic activity for four consecutive batches.

        Khan, Sadia,Fahiem, Muhammad Abuzar,Bakhtawar, Birra,Aftab, Shabib,Ahmad, Munir,Aziz, Nauman,Almotilag, Abdullah,Elmitwally, Nouh Sabri International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.6

Process model is an integral part of software industry. Different process models are used now a days in the industry for different software projects. Process models need to be tailored to address some specific project needs. Agile models are considered as the most widely used process models nowadays. They have distinctive features and the ability to address the dynamic needs of today's software development. Extreme programming (XP) is one of the extensively used agile process model especially for small projects. Many researchers have tried to mold XP to overcome its shortcomings and for better working in specific scenarios. Therefore, many customized versions of XP process model are available today. In this paper, we are going to analyze the latest customizations of XP. For this purpose, a systematic literature review is conducted on studies published from 2012 till 2018 in renowned online search libraries. This comprehensive review highlights the purpose of customizations, along with the areas in which customizations are made, and phases & practices which are being customized. This work will serve the researchers to discover the modern versions of XP process model as well as will provide a baseline for future directions for customizations.

      • Prevalence and Predictors of Thrombocytopenia in Advanced Liver Disease

        ( Nauman Arif Jadoon ),( Zeeshan Butt ),( Sa? U Khan ),( Kamran Mushtaq ) 대한간학회 2016 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2016 No.1

Aims: To study clinical, laboratory and demographic predictors of thrombocytopenia in advanced liver disease. Methods: 248 patients with decompensated cirrhosis (DC) (age range: 30-75 years; majority with chronic C hepatitis (78 %)) were prospectively analyzed. The platelet count with cut-off value of \150,000/lL was taken as thrombocytopenia. Patients with and without thrombocytopenia were correlated with patients’ characteristics, such as demographics, prevalent extra hepatic diseases, therapeutic interventions (endoscopy, band ligation and interferon therapy), clinical signs and laboratory variables. Results: 248 patients showed following distribution according to CP classi.cation: A; 7 %; B; 30 % and C; 63 %. Hepatitis C (83 %, P = 0.009) demonstrated strong correlation but hepatitis B infection and alcohol failed to show any signi.cant association with thrombocytopenia (P[0.05). People with splenomegaly (73 %, p = 0.000) and elevated ALT levels ([35 IU) were more prevalent in thrombocytopenia group (96 %, P = 0.019). Deranged clotting parameters PT ([15 sec, 96 %, p = 0.001) and aPTT ([35 s, 86 %, p = 0.023) were strongly associated with thrombocytopenia. However no statistically signi.cant association was observed between demographic variables, MELD score, CP classi.cation, extra-hepatic diseases, therapeutic interventions and other clinical signs and laboratory tests (p[0.05 for all). Conclusions: Hepatitis C infection is an independent predictor of thrombocytopenia in DC. Combination of splenomegaly, elevated ALT, deranged clotting parameters can predict thrombocytopenia in advanced liver disease.

Effects of peripartal glucose precursor supplementation on lactation performance and metabolic health of primiparous and multiparous dairy cows

        Akhtar Muhammad Uzair,Hifzulrahman,Pasha Talat Naseer,Avais Muhammad,Khan Nauman,Chishti Ghazanfar Ali,Ali Mubashar,Imran Muhammad,Tahir Muhammad Naeem,Naveed-ul-Haque Muhammad 아세아·태평양축산학회 2023 Animal Bioscience Vol.36 No.6

Objective: Hyperketonemia remains a major metabolic issue of serious milk production and a major health concern in early lactation cows. Oral supplementation of glucose precursors (GP) can be used to prevent hyperketonemia in dairy cows. The objective of this study was to compare the beneficial effects of orally supplementing a mixture of GP on metabolic health indicators and milk production status of primiparous (PP) and multiparous (MP) dairy cows. Methods: Twenty-eight Holstein cows were blocked by expected date of parturition, previous lactation yield, and parity. The cows were randomly allocated to one of the four treatment groups (n = 7 cows/group) based on their parity and GP supplementation: i) PP cows fed basal diet only (PP-CON), ii) PP cows with oral supplementation of GP (PP-GP), iii) MP cows fed basal diet only (MP-CON), and iv) MP cows with oral supplementation of GP (MP-GP). Glucose precursor (glycoline liquid) was orally drenched (300 mL/d) in GP cows from 7 days prepartum through 7 days postpartum. Other than GP supplementation, all cows were fed similar pre- and postpartum basal diets. Results: In both pre- and postpartum periods, serum glucose concentration was increased, whereas β-hydroxybutyrate and free fatty acids were decreased in GP cows compared with the CON cows. Milk yield and milk components were statistically not different between GP and CON cows over the first 9 week of lactation. The yield of actual milk, energycorrected milk, 63-days cumulative milk, colostrum yield, and calf birth weight remained higher in MP cows compared with PP cows. Conclusion: Oral drenching of GP around calving can be recommended to successfully improve the metabolic health and reduce the negative effects of hyperketonemia not only in MP but also in PP dairy cows.
