      • Effects of Written Corrective Feedback on Complexity, Accuracy, and Fluency

        In this study, 16 students were given direct feedback in an intact writing class. Pre-and post-tests were analyzed to see if there was a trade-off effect for complexity, accuracy and fluency. Results indicate that there was no statistical difference between the pre- and post-test writings for CAF, but there was improvement in the individual measures used to analyze students’ writings for CAF.

        Effects of Direct Feedback on Complexity, Accuracy, and Fluency

        The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of unfocused, direct written corrective feedback on accuracy, and how this affected complexity and fluency. Sixteen students were given direct feedback in an intact writing class over a 15 week period. Paired samples t-tests were conducted to compare the pre- and post-test writing scores for complexity, accuracy, and fluency to see if there was any improvement. This study found that there was no significant difference in the mean scores for the pre- and post-test writings for complexity, accuracy, and fluency. Although the mean scores were not statistically significant, students did show improvement in the individual measures that were used to measure accuracy. This study supports written corrective feedback and disputes Truscott’s (1996, 2007) belief that it is ineffective and even detrimental to students.

        A Consideration of Dynamic Corrective Feedback to Develop Writing Accuracy

        This study analyzed the efficacy of written corrective feedback on low proficiency students’ writings and in particular dynamic corrective feedback. 64 low proficiency EFL university students were divided into four groups. One group received dynamic feedback(n = 16), the second group received indirect feedback (n =16), the third received direct feedback (n = 16) and the final group received no feedback (n = 16). The study found that only the group that received dynamic written corrective feedback improved in grammatical accuracy from the pre-test to the post-test. Furthermore, none of the groups outperformed the other groups after having received feedback on accuracy for five new writings.

        The Institute of the Kinsman Redeemer

        구약 성서에서 인용된 기업을 무르는 제도(고엘)에 대한 공통적인 언급은 그리스도의 한 형태였다. 그럼으로, 안정이 어려운 시기에 이스라엘 국민들에게 경제 안정과 평등을 제공하는 수단으로서 기업을 무르는 제도의 속성을 검토해야 한다. 이 논문의 목적은 하나님이 생계를 유지하기 위해 사람이 마지막으로 토지를 저당 잡히거나 종으로 섬기는 경우에 고엘이라는 제도를 설립한 것을 논의하는 것이다. The common reference to the kinsman redeemer (goel) concept in the Old Testament has been as a type of Christ. However, the institution of the kinsman redeemer should be discussed in its own right, as a means of offering economic stability and equality to the people of Israel in difficult times. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the establishment of the institution of the goel by God, in the event one had to mortgage one’s land or sell oneself for service in order to make ends meet. The goel prohibited the people from enslaving themselves or selling their property permanently. The goel was ordained by God as a failsafe to make sure that there was a way to avoid poverty.

        Effects of Direct and Indirect Feedback on Accuracy in Low Proficiency Students’ Writing

        The present study investigated the effects of direct and indirect unfocused written corrective feedback on low proficiency students’ grammatical accuracy. 48 Korean students from three classes were assigned to a control group (self-correction), direct feedback group, and an indirect feedback group where errors were coded. A pre-test, five new writings, revisions and a post-test were administered over a 15 week semester. Results showed that neither of the feedback groups statistically outperformed the other, nor did they outperform the control group in terms of grammatical accuracy in the post-test.

        Tithing in the Bible and its Application

        십일조는 많은 찬반 논쟁을 불러일으키는 민감한 연구 주제다. 이 연구의 목적은 구약과 신약 성경에서 십일조를 언급하는 모든 성경의 구절을 분석하여 이 구절들이 현대 교회에서 십일조를 위한 “증거”로 사용될 수 있는지의 여부를 논의하는 것 이다. 십일조의 진정한 의도를 성경적으로 이해하기 위해서는 성경의 구절은 각 단락의 문맥에서 해석되어야 한다. 이와 같은 연구 방법에 의해 본문을 재구성 한 결과, 십일조에 대한 개별 구절 중 일부는 오늘날 문자적으로 적용될 수 없으며, 이에 따라 십일조에 대한 “증거 본문”으로 사용될 수는 없지만, 전체적으로는 십일조가 어떻게 지지되는지 밝히고 있다. 십일조는 하나님과 그의 백성과의 관계를 의미한다. 오늘날 교회는 성경 구절뿐만 아니라 실용적이고 재정적인 이유로 인하여 십일조를 승인 할 의무가 있다. Tithing is a sensitive topic with many arguments for and against. The purpose of this study is to analyze all the Bible passages from the Old and New Testament that mention tithing to discuss whether we should use these passages as “evidence” for tithing in the church today. The Bible passages must be interpreted in the context in which they are found in order for us to understand the real intention of the tithe. After an examination of the texts, it has been found that some of the individual passages on tithing may not be applicable to us today, and thus, cannot be used as “evidence” for tithing, but as a whole, these passages do endorse tithing as it signified a relationship with God and his people. The church today is responsible for endorsing tithing not only due to the Bible passages but for practical financial reasons as well.

        Applying Drama Related Activities in the Korean University CLT Classroom

        이 연구의 목적은 영어 드라마 관련 활동에 대한 한국 대학생들의 인식과 반응을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해, 대학교 정규 CLT 과정의 5개 학급(상위 수준 3학급과 하위 수준 2학급 학생들을 대상으로 3가지의 영어 드라마와 관련된 활동을 실시하고, 이에 대한 학생들의 인식을 알아보기 위해 각 활동에 대하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구자는 상위 수준의 학생들이 하위 수준의 학생들보다 드라마 활동에 대해 더 긍정적인 반응을 보일 것이라 기대하였다. 그러나 연구 결과, 학생들은 수준에 관계없이 드라마 관련 활동을 좋아하고 수업을 이해하는 데 어려움이 없는 것으로 나타났으며, 또한 이러한 드라마 활동들이 자신들의 영어 말하기 능력 향상에 어느 정도 도움이 되는 것으로 생각하였다. 활동에 참여하는 동안 하위 수준의 학생들의 대체로 조금 더 긴장하거나 당황하며, 영어로 자신을 표현함에 있어서 다소 더 어려움을 겪었다.
