The influence of material shear nonlinearity on multidirectional laminates in terms of failure envelopes

2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.12

Influence of material shear nonlinearity on multidirectional laminates in terms of failure envelopes was investigated. In applying classic laminate theory, elastic constants were employed in transverse and longitudinal directions, while initial shear modulus was substituted by the secant shear modulus, which was achieved by means of Ramberg-Osgood model. The fracture curves were generated from maximum stress, Tsai-Wu and Puck criteria. The similarities and differences between nonlinear and linear shear models can be expressed in terms of symmetric balanced laminates [±θ°] 2 s and asymmetric laminates [0° 2 /±θ°], which are both arranged by material E-glass/MY750 oriented at different directions. All σ 1 - σ 2 failure envelopes due to material nonlinearity extend outward in tensile and compressive directions, but the phenomenon is not obvious with increasing ply angles. Similarly, the differences of all σ 1 - τ 12 failure envelopes between nonlinear shear analysis and linear shear analysis are decreasing with increased ply angles. Ply orientations and loading directions are involved in the effect of nonlinear shear properties on failure envelopes. According to the failure modes obtained from maximum stress criterion, it is reasonably derived that the influence of material shear nonlinearity will lead whether the failure envelopes from the other two failure criteria are more conservative or not.

Nonlinearity of Shear Response of Unidirectional Laminates under Combined Loading

Vol.42 No.6

We present the prediction of nonlinear in-plane shear stress strain curves based on complementary strain energy density function. When the [θ˚] unidirectional laminates are subjected to a combination of shear stresses and axial stresses, the predicted shear responses of laminates are compared with measured experimental data for verifying this accuracy of this model. In this process, the compliance constants are determined to match the measured test results in terms of the influence of on-axis axial stress. Finally, it is shown that the predicted shear stress strain behavior of E-glass/vinylester concurs with experimental curves for all off-axis angles, while shear behavior predictions of boron/epoxy and T800H/3633 laminates agree with experimental results for 30˚ 45˚ 60˚ off-axis angles laminates except 15˚ off-axis angle laminates. This is because the elastic longitudinal modulus is still significantly higher than the other modulus even for a small off axis angle.

Selective control of cubic and hexagonal mesophases for titania and silica thin films with spin-coating

Hong Pan, Jia,In Lee, Wan Royal Society of Chemistry 2005 NEW JOURNAL OF CHEMISTRY Vol.29 No.6

<P>Highly organized mesoporous titania and silica thin films were synthesized using a triblock copolymer-templated sol-gel method <I>via</I> an evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) process. For the first time, we have found that the mesophase of these metal oxides can be selectively controlled by varying the spin-coating conditions. With spin-coating at a low speed, such as 600 rpm, cubic mesoporous TiO2 or SiO2 thin films are obtained, whereas 2D hexagonal mesoporous thin films are formed at a high spin-coating speed of around 2000 rpm for 20 s. On the other hand, a mixture of hexagonal and cubic phase is formed for films prepared at an intermediate spinning speed of 1000 rpm for 10 s. The fabricated mesoporous thin films, characterized by XRD, TEM, and UV-visible spectroscopy, show that the mesopore structures are highly ordered, without any cracks, and thermally stable (up to 400 °C). The hexagonal and cubic mesoporous TiO2 films of 300–320 nm thickness have about 95% transparency and exhibit a ultra-uniform surfaces. We believe that the evaporation rate of volatile components in the coated film is qualitatively proportional to the speed of spin-coating, and this determines the mesophase of the resultant films.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Highly ordered cubic and hexagonal mesoporous TiO2 and SiO2 thin films can be selectively obtained by varying the spin-coating conditions in the evaporation-induced self-assembly process. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b417310d'> </P>

      • Improved Feature Matching based on Latent Semantic Indexing and Adaptive Parameter Adjustment for Egomotion Estimation

2014 2016 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Vol.6 No.1

This paper proposes a method for improving the egomotion determination by using latent semantic indexing for feature description and enhancing feature matching via an adaptive procedure. Input binocular stereo images are processed by the SURF detector, the descriptions are analyzed semantically with SVD and new feature descriptors are generated. Restrictions of matching pairs are established based on the epipolar geometry, which are then adaptively adjusted between successive image pairs. Four types of experiments are conducted and experiment results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach in providing smaller numbers of initial match candidates with higher probability of correct matches.

      • High Expression of MICA in Human Kidney Cancer Tissue and Renal Cell Carcinoma Lines

        Jia, Hong-Ying,Liu, Jun-Li,Zhou, Cheng-Jun,Kong, Feng,Yuan, Ming-Zhen,Sun, Wen-Dong,Wang, Jue,Liu, Ling,Zhao, Jing-Jie,Luan, Yun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.4

The overall incidence and mortality of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common kidney cancer, are steadily increasing for reasons that are not fully explained. Our aim was to explore the expression of membrane MHC class I chain-related gene A (mMICA) in human RCC cell lines and tissue specimens, and to determine expression of soluble MICA (sMICA) in serum of patients with renal cell carcinoma, we used flow cytometry (FCM) and immunohistochemistry as well as an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The results showed that percentage of mMICA expression was significantly increased in human kidney cancer tissues and RCC cell lines (786-O and Ketr-3) than that in healthy adults and human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cell line individuality (P<0.05). sMICA content in healthy adults was negative, but in renal cancer patients was significantly elevated (P<0.05). Our research showed that high expression of MICA in human kidney cancer, this results show that MICA might serve as potential tumor-associated antigen (TAA) in RCC.

      • Enhancing hydrogen production efficiency in microbial electrolysis cell with membrane electrode assembly cathode

Jia, Yu Hong,Ryu, Jae Hun,Kim, Cho Hui,Lee, Woo Kyung,Tran, Thi Van Trinh,Lee, Hyo Lee,Zhang, Rui Hong,Ahn, Dae Hee Elsevier 2012 Journal of industrial and engineering chemistry Vol.18 No.2

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Microbial electrolysis cell is a device which can produce hydrogen gas from biomass through microbial catalyzed process and thus reduce the organic matter. For the real application in wastewater treatment, the scale-up of microbial electrolysis cell is an important issue but few tests were conducted with relatively large size. In this study, a 3.7L microbial electrolysis cell (liquid volume 3.2L) equipped with a membrane electrode assembly cathode was designed and tested. The internal resistance was examined, hydrogen generation and organic removal performance was investigated under different conditions. A maximum overall hydrogen efficiency of 41% was achieved at an applied voltage of 1.2V with acetate as substrate, corresponding to a volumetric hydrogen production rate of approximately 0.12m3 H2/m3 reactor liquid volume/day. The results obtained in this study could help to further develop pilot-MEC for practical applications.</P>

Association between FGFRs and the susceptibility of digestive and reproductive system cancers in Chinese population

        Jia-Kang Wang,Shu-jun Guo,Bao-qing Tian,Chnag-jun Nie,Hai-long Wang,Jia-lang Wang,An Hong,Xiao-jia Chen 2017 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.13 No.4

Fibroblast growth factors(FGFs) and their receptors (FGFRs) modulate a wide range of biological functions, especially tumor genesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible association of FGFR expression with the susceptibility of digestive system and reproductive system cancers in Chinese population. In total, 343 patients with digestive or reproductive system cancers were enrolled in this study. The expression levels of four highly-conserved FGFRs including FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3 and FGFR4 were measured by immunohistochemistry (IHC). The expression levels of FGFRs were compared between carcinoma and para-carcinoma tissues. FGFR1 expression significantly differed between carcinoma and para-carcinoma tissues in colon and gastric cancers. FGFR2 expression significantly differed between carcinoma and para-carcinoma tissues in esophageal cancer. FGFR3 expression was significantly different between carcinoma and para-carcinoma tissues in liver and gastric cancers. FGFR2 showed the highest expression probability in all the selected cancers and FGFR4 showed the lowest expression probability. FGFR1 and FGFR3 showed comparable moderate expression probabilities. Our findings have demonstrated significant differences regarding FGFR expression levels between carcinoma and para-carcinoma cells in digestive or reproductive system cancer patients. The data also implicated that FGFR2 and FGFR4 could serve as two prominent factors closely related to the susceptibility of digestive and reproductive system cancers.
