There are two kinds of hub mechanism on the controllable pitch propeller. One is the collar type and the other is the trunnion type. Pitch variation mechanism of the collar type of CPP is a simpler and cheaper solution, therefore CPP of this type is more applicable for commercial vessels. But the trunnion type of CPP has many advantages compared to the collar type of CPP : There are an ability to install up to 7 blades and a smaller dependency from bolt properties. The blades arrangement of trunnion type does not need bolts and it has a smaller disk factors for the same number of blades compared with the collar type CPP. In this instance, the CPP of trunnion type is an appropriate fit for the naval purposes(explosive shock) and ice breakers.

This thesis is focused on the comparison between Numerical Calculation and FEM Analysis by ANSYS by software for Impeller Shafting System of Low Noise Large Cavitation Tunnel. The impeller shafting system are considered buoyancy effect to influence driving shaft in the water that reason why the shaft diameter 800㎜ above. The shafting are arranged two solid shafts at forward end, three hallow shafts in the water and one hallow shaft on the tail. The bearings are arranged one self aligned journal bearing on the tail shaft and one axial thrust with two journal bearings on the motor shaft. The strength calculation was done by MathCAD.

With an increase in the size and power rate of ship, the stern tube bearing has become subject to severer operation conditions. Particularly it is expected to be exposed to extremely so severe lubrication conditions during low rotational operation that there is strong demand for clarifying the oil film characteristics of the stern tube bearing at the design stage with accuracy. So in this study, we conducted an analysis of the stern tube bearing characteristics taking arbitrary three-dimensional deflection of the shaft into consideration.

Proper shaft alignment is one of the most important actions during the design of the propulsion system. The stiffness of recently designed marine propulsion shafting has been increasing remarkably, whereas hull structures have become more likely to deform as a result of optimized design of the scantlings and the high tensile steel. hereupon, this paper dealing with introduction of newly developed shaft alignment programme by our society and review its reliability evaluation compare with other alignment programmes.
