Fabricating a surveyed prosthesis beneath an existing partial removable dental prosthesis (PRDP) is a challenging and time-consuming procedure. The computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology was applied to fabricate a retrofitted, surveyed zirconia prosthesis to an existing PRDP. CAD/CAM technology enabled precise and easy replication of the contour of the planned surveyed crown on the existing abutment tooth. This technology ensured excellent adaptation and fit of newly fabricated crown to the existing PRDP with minimal adjustments. In this case report, a seventy-year-old male patient presented with fractured existing surveyed crown. Because the existing PRDP was serviceable, new crown was fabricated to the existing PRDP.

Proponents of bilaterally balanced occlusion believe that this occlusal concept is important for denture retention and stability. However, the critical appraisal of the literature reveals no scientific evidence to support the bilaterally balanced occlusion as the ideal occlusal concept for conventional complete dentures. Current evidence suggests that the occlusal concept has little influence on clinical outcomes or patient satisfaction. Additional randomized controlled clinical trials should be developed taking into account the influence of mucosal resiliency, alveolar ridge anatomy, and parafunctional activities on occlusal concept choice. In this paper, various types of complete denture occlusion (bilaterally balanced occlusion, lingualized occlusion, canine-guided occlusion) will be reviewed and compared.

Nowadays computer-guided “flapless” surgery for implant placement using templates is gaining popularity among clinicians and patients. The advantages of this surgical protocol are its minimally invasive nature, accuracy of implant placement, predictability, less post-surgical discomfort and reduced time required for definitive rehabilitation. Aim of this presentation is to describe the digital implant protocol, thanks to which is now possible to do a mini-invasive static guided implant surgery. This is possible thanks to a procedure named surface mapping based on the matching between numerous points on the surface of patient’s dental casts and the corresponding anatomical surface points in the CBCT data. With some critical points and needing an adequate learning curve, this protocol allows to select the ideal implant position in depth, inclination and mesio-distal distance between natural teeth and or other implants enabling a very safe and predictable rehabilitation compared with conventional surgery. It represents a good tool for the best compromise between anatomy, function and aesthetic, able to guarantee better results in all clinical situations.

Occasionally, complete dentures constructed in accord with the best clinical and laboratory procedures fail to serve successfully. These failures probably result from present ignorance of the occlusion and functions of living tissues. Nonetheless, in each case, the whole treatment procedure, both clinical and laboratory, must be reexamined in order to ascertain the point of failure. One can employ a technique more intelligently, and often improve on it, if the reasons for its use are known. When one is guided only by a recipe, the outcome will be doubtful whenever conditions are not the same as in the recipe. In this manuscript, occlusal consideration of edentulous patients will be discussed thoroughly.

심미성 및 치주 조직의 유지 관리를 고려한 임플란트 보철 증례

After extraction of tooth, alveolar ridge resorption is inevitable in most cases. Clinicians confront with horizontal and vertical resorption of alveolar bone. Without massive amount of bone and soft tissue graft, dental implant will be placed apically to gain stability. In those cases, not only white esthetic part, but also pink esthetic part should be restored with pink porcelain. The margin of prosthesis should be located apically to reproduce natural look with adjacent teeth. However, when the margin is located apically, it is always hard to remove remaining cement, thus complications may arise. In this report, a novel design of implant prosthesis is introduced to solve those issues. The novel design is consisted of zirconia framework with pink porcelain and separate crowns on top of the framework. It eliminates the possibility of cement remnants by bringing the crown margin coronally. Pink esthetic part is incorporated in abutment part instead of crown part and the screw hole is covered with separate crowns.
Prosthetic management of a growing patient with Russell-Silver syndrome: a clinical report
Kim, Kanghyun,Noh, Kwantae,Paek, Janghyun,Kwon, Kung-Rock,Pae, Ahran The Korean Academy of Prosthodonitics 2015 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.7 No.5
Russell-Silver syndrome (RSS) is a congenital disease characterized by short stature due to growth hormone deficiency, physical asymmetry, inverted triangular face, micrognathia, prominent forehead, and hypodontia. This case report presents a prosthetic management of a 6-year-old patient with Russell-Silver syndrome treated with overdentures on the maxilla and the mandible using the remaining primary teeth. Subsequent and comprehensive dental management considering the growth and development of a young patient will be necessary.

In case of missing of permanent teeth by trauma or innate defect, the decision of treatment modalities and application timing have an important effect on the prognosis of oral rehabilitation. In this case report, interdisciplinary approach between the orthodontic and prosthodontic treatment, the way to re-establish the collapsed occlusal vertical dimension, and implant prosthetic considerations will be discussed. Proper diagnosis on teeth and craniofacial skeleton was made prior to treatment and provisional restorations were used in regard of growth patterns of the patient. Finally, the edentulous areas were restored with fixed implant prostheses. Diagnosis, treatment rationale and prognosis will be discussed thoroughly.
