Place Branding Strategy Using IDEA Model: Applying to Jeju Island

Vol.29 No.6

Jeju Island is a special self administrated province of South Korea, known for its clean environment, scenic landscape and legendary historic cultural background. It is a tourists heaven and destination of choice for visitors originating from mainland Korea, Japan, China and neighboring countries, who throng it in large groups to ignite their romantic appetite, add spice to their lives and strengthen their spiritual energies. However, its potential as an international tourist destination is still not fully recognized and realized. The paper suggests IDEA- a new personality brand model (Identity, Differentiation, Emotion bonding and Aura), to put Jeju at par with its competitors. If fully adopted and implemented, IDEA may catapult Jeju to new heights through harnessing measures revolving around Identity, differentiation, emotion bonding and aura.

Effect of Sintering Temperature on the Electromechanical Properties of 0.945Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3-0.055BaZrO3 Ceramics

Jamil Ur Rahman,Ali Hussain,Adnan Maqbool,Rizwan Ahmed Malik,김민수,김명호 한국물리학회 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.7

In this work, lead-free 0.945B0.5N0.5TiO3-0.055BaZrO3 (BNT-BZ) ceramics were synthesized byusing conventional solid-state reaction method and the effect of different sintering temperatures(1145 − 1200◦C) on its structure and electromechanical properties were investigated. XRD patternsrevealed single a phase-perovskite structure for all samples sintered at different temperatures. An optimum sintering temperature enhanced densification, promoted grain growth, and improvethe dielectric and piezoelectric properties. However, at low (1145◦C) and high (1200◦C) sinteringtemperatures, the BNT-BZ ceramics showed inferior electromechanical properties. BNT-BZ ceramicssintered at an optimum temperature (1175◦C) showed an enhanced strain (0.39%) responseat an applied electric field of 7 kV/mm with a high dynamic piezoelectric coefficient (d∗33 = 557pm/V). These results can be attributed to the high density of the BNT-BZ ceramics sintered at1175◦C.

Piezoelectric and Ferroelectric Properties of Lead-free LiNbO3-modified 0.97(Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3)-0.03BaZrO3 Ceramics

2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.4

Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics (1−x) [(0.97Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3)]-0.03BaZrO3-xLiNbO3 (BNT-BZ3-xLN) with x = (0 − 0.07) were synthesized using the conventional solid-state reaction method, andtheir crystal structure, microstructure, and dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties wereinvestigated as a function of the LN content. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the formationof a single-phase perovskite structure for all the LN-modified BNT-BZ ceramics in this study. Theresults indicate that the LN substitution into BNT-BZ3 induces a transition from a ferroelectricto a diffuse and/or relaxor state accompanying a field-induced strain of 0.20% for x = 0.05 at anapplied field of 6 kV/mm. The corresponding dynamic piezoelectric coefficient for this compositionwas (Smax/Emax = 333 pm/V). A significant reduction of the coercive field (Ec) and enhancementof the piezoelectric constant (d33) from 98 pC/N for x = 0 to 117 pC/N x = 0.01 was observed.

        Mubasher Jamil,Farook Rahaman,Ratbay Myrzakulov,Peter Kuhfittig,Nasr Ahmed,Umar Mondal 한국물리학회 2014 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.65 No.6

This paper discusses several new exact solutions for static wormholes in f(R) gravity with anoncommutative-geometry background. In the first part of the paper, we assume the power-lawform f(R) = aRn and discuss several solutions corresponding to different values of the exponent. The second part of the paper assumes a particular form of the shape function that also yields aviable solution. This investigation generalizes some of our previous work in f(R) gravity, as well asin noncommutative geometry.

Adaptive Scene Classification based on Semantic Concepts and Edge Detection

Vol.15 No.2

Scene classification and concept-based procedures have been the great interest for image categorization applications for large database. Knowing the category to which scene belongs, we can filter out uninterested images when we try to search a specific scene category such as beach, mountain, forest and field from database. In this paper, we propose an adaptive segmentation method for real-world natural scene classification based on a semantic modeling. Semantic modeling stands for the classification of sub-regions into semantic concepts such as grass, water and sky. Our adaptive segmentation method utilizes the edge detection to split an image into sub-regions. Frequency of occurrences of these semantic concepts represents the information of the image and classifies it to the scene categories. K-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) algorithm is also applied as a classifier. The empirical results demonstrate that the proposed adaptive segmentation method outperforms the Vogel and Schiele’s method in terms of accuracy.

Impact of Terrorism on Tourism Product Utility: A Case of Taxila, Pakistan

        Chaudhry,Jamil Ahmed. Vol.30 No.4

A tourism destination’s consumption depends upon a wide-ranging needs and motivations shaped by a complex mix of factors representing consumer’s social environment, personality, family or personal experiences and pleasure drives. Tourists like others put value on tranquility and safety for the enjoyment of the pleasures and activities offered by tourist destinations. Terrorism is causing significant decrease in tourists’ utility of tourism products. The evaluation of a tourism destination in terms of consumer utility loss can be effective for rehabilitation exercise and planning of resources. Pakistan is a frontline state in war on terror since September 11, 2001. Tourism industry is badly hit in the country as local and foreign tourists avoid travelling and visiting public places due to safety concerns. This study investigates terrorism impacts on consumer’s utility of Taxila, Pakistan. Taxila is a UNESCO listed archaeological heritage site and tourist destination having a number of Buddhist monasteries, excavated ruins of ancient cities and a site museum. The study uses consumers’usage data and terrorism causalities figures collected from Taxila Museum and international databases, respectively. The study focuses on terrorismincidents occurring allover country and its impact of local and foreign visitor arrivals at Taxila. The analysis of the data is carried out by using statistical concepts like ANOVA, multivariate regression and time series using SPSS 17 software. The result shows utility of Taxila by local and foreign visitor’s dropped signficantly. Moreover, foreigners displaymore sensitivity to frequency of terror incidents then locals, who react rather seriously to the intensity of such incidents.

Risk factors for intensive care unit admission and mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients

        Ayaz Ahmed,Arshad Ainan,Malik Hajra,Ali Haris,Hussain Erfan,Jamil Bushra 대한중환자의학회 2020 Acute and Critical Care Vol.35 No.4

Background: This study investigated the clinical features and outcome of hospitalized coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients admitted to our quaternary care hospital. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we included all adult patients with COVID-19 infection admitted to a quaternary care hospital in Pakistan from March 1 to April 15, 2020. The extracted variables included demographics, comorbidities, presenting symptoms, laboratory tests and radiological findings during admission. Outcome measures included in-hospital mortality and length of stay. Results: Sixty-six COVID-19 patients were hospitalized during the study period. Sixty-one percent were male and 39% female; mean age was 50.6±19.1 years. Fever and cough were the most common presenting symptoms. Serial chest X-rays showed bilateral pulmonary opacities in 33 (50%) patients. The overall mortality was 14% and mean length of stay was 8.4±8.9 days. Ten patients (15%) required intensive care unit (ICU) care during admission, of which six (9%) were intubated. Age ≥60 years, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, ICU admission, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio ≥3.3, and international normalized ratio ≥1.2 were associated with increased risk of mortality. Conclusions: We found a mortality rate of 14% in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. COVID-19 cases are still increasing exponentially around the world and may overwhelm healthcare systems in many countries soon. Our findings can be used for early identification of patients who may require intensive care and aggressive management in order to improve outcomes.
