A novel pharmacophore with epinastine (1) and NSAID moieties (2-5) was designed by molecular hybridization approach. The hybrid compounds 6-9 were synthesized by EDCI/HOBt or HATU-mediated coupling of 1 with salicylic acid (2), mefenamic acid (3), indomethacin (4) and naproxen (5), respectively, and were assessed for their inhibitory effect against NO production in LPS-induced RAW-264.7 macrophages in vitro. The Hybrids were found to exhibit significant NO production inhibitory effects with half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC<sub>50</sub>) values ranging in between 15.96 ± 1.32 and 36.68 ± 2.53 μM and were non-cytotoxic to macrophages. Comparing the inhibition concentration (IC<sub>50</sub>), cytotoxicity concentration (CC<sub>50</sub>) and in vitro efficacy index (iEI), 6 (IC<sub>50</sub> = 17.97 ± 1.92 μM; iEI = 11.13) and 9 (IC<sub>50</sub> = 15.96 ± 1.32 μM; iEI = 12.53) were better suited than other hybrids as well as their parent compound. Our findings signify that hybrids 6 and 9 may serve as platforms for continued investigations for the development of more efficient anti-inflammatory agents.

A set of novel epinastine (1) and mefenamic acid (2) hybrids (3?7) tethered via amide bond were designed and synthesized with the artistry of molecular hybridization. Then their inhibitory effect on nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-induced RAW-264.7 macrophages and the expression levels of prostaglandin (PG) synthesis regulatory genes were evaluated in vitro. All the hybrids were found to have remarkable NO production inhibitory potential with IC50 values ranging in between 27.69?±?3.06 and 40.19?±?5.52??M without notable cytotoxicity (CC50?≥?100??M) except 6. Comparing the inhibitory effects, cytotoxicity and in vitro efficacy index (iEI), 4 (IC50 = 32.09?±?4.04??M; iEI = 6.23) and 7 (IC50 = 27.69?±?3.06??M; iEI = 6.40) were better suited than other hybrids as well as their parent compounds EH and MA. This outcome was further harmonized with the reduced microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 expression and unaltered housekeeping COX-1 expression by hybrids 4 and 7 treatment. Altogether, our findings signify that hybrids 4 and 7 may serve as platforms for continued investigations for the development of more efficient anti-inflammatory agents.

The optimal strain energy function was obtained by comparing the results of the analysis using the strain energy functions obtained by uniaxial tensile and equibiaxial tensile tests on gasket materials used in hydrogen fuel cells, with the results measured using a contact pressure measurement sensor. At this time, even when only the uniaxial tensile test was conducted, Yeoh could obtain the most accurate results even by conducting only the uniaxial tensile test. Using this, an analysis of the cross section of the gasket used in stack confirmed a safe contact pressure and no deformation on the separator. In the future, research will be conducted to verify the gasket durability by reliability evaluation.

<P>An electromagnon in the magnetoelectric (ME) hexaferrite Ba-0.5 Sr-2.5 Co-2 Fe-24 O-41 (Co-2 Z-type) single crystal is identified by time-domain terahertz (THz) spectroscopy. The associated THz resonance is active on the electric field (E-omega) of the THz light parallel to the c axis (parallel to [001]), whose spectral weight develops at a markedly high temperature, coinciding with a transverse conical magnetic order below 410 K. The resonance frequency of 1.03 THz at 20 K changes -8.7% and +5.8% under external magnetic field (H) of 2 kOe along [001] and [120], respectively. A model Hamiltonian describing the conical magnetic order elucidates that the dynamical ME effect arises from antiphase motion of spins which are coupled with modulating electric dipoles through the exchange striction mechanism. Moreover, the calculated frequency shift points to the key role of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction that is altered by static electric polarization change under different H.</P>
