ALL GENERALIZED PETERSEN GRAPHS ARE UNIT-DISTANCE GRAPHS

        Zitnik, Arjana,Horvat, Boris,Pisanski, Tomaz Korean Mathematical Society 2012 대한수학회지 Vol.49 No.3

In 1950 a class of generalized Petersen graphs was introduced by Coxeter and around 1970 popularized by Frucht, Graver and Watkins. The family of $I$-graphs mentioned in 1988 by Bouwer et al. represents a slight further albeit important generalization of the renowned Petersen graph. We show that each $I$-graph $I(n,j,k)$ admits a unit-distance representation in the Euclidean plane. This implies that each generalized Petersen graph admits a unit-distance representation in the Euclidean plane. In particular, we show that every $I$-graph $I(n,j,k)$ has an isomorphic $I$-graph that admits a unit-distance representation in the Euclidean plane with a $n$-fold rotational symmetry, with the exception of the families $I(n,j,j)$ and $I(12m,m,5m)$, $m{\geq}1$. We also provide unit-distance representations for these graphs.

Highly Ordered Mesoporous Cobalt Oxide Nanostructures: Synthesis, Characterisation, Magnetic Properties, and Applications for Electrochemical Energy Devices

        Wang, Guoxiu,Liu, Hao,Horvat, Josip,Wang, Bei,Qiao, Shizhang,Park, Jinsoo,Ahn, Hyojun WILEY-VCH Verlag 2010 Chemistry Vol.16 No.36

<P>Highly ordered mesoporous Co3O4 nanostructures were prepared using KIT-6 and SBA-15 silica as hard templates. The structures were confirmed by small angle X-ray diffraction, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, and N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm analysis. Both KIT-6 cubic and SBA-15 hexagonal mesoporous Co3O4 samples exhibited a low Néel temperature and bulk antiferromagnetic coupling due to geometric confinement of antiferromagnetic order within the nanoparticles. Mesoporous Co3O4 electrode materials have demonstrated the high lithium storage capacity of more than 1200 mAh g−1 with an excellent cycle life. They also exhibited a high specific capacitance of 370 F g−1 as electrodes in supercapacitors.</P> <B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>Highly ordered mesoporous Co3O4 nanostructures have been prepared by using a hard-template method. The incidence of atypical patterns of BCR-ABL1 rearrangement and molecular-cytogenetic response to tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy in newly diagnosed cases with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)

        Željka Tkalčić Švabek,Marina Josipović,Ivana Horvat,Renata Zadro,Sanja Davidović-Mrsić 대한혈액학회 2018 Blood Research Vol.53 No.2

Background To analyze the frequency of atypical fluorescence in situ hybridization signal patterns and estimate the complete cytogenetic response (CCyR) and major molecular response (MMR) during 12 months of tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy in patients with newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia. Methods The study included bone marrow and peripheral blood samples from 122 patients with newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia. Detection of the breakpoint cluster region—Abelson fusion gene (BCR-ABL1) was performed using fluorescence in situ hybridization with a dual-color dual-fusion translocation probe, and MMR analysis was performed using the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction method. Results Variant translocation was determined in 10 samples and a deletion on the derivative chromosome 9 (del/der(9)) was found in 20 samples. The rates of CCyR and MMR were similar between patients with reciprocal translocation, variant translocation, deletion of derivative BCR, or ABL1-BCR fusion gene. The Kaplan–Meier test did not show any significant differences in the rates of CCyR and MMR among those groups of patients. Conclusion The frequencies of variant translocation and del/der(9) in the present study agree with the results of other studies performed worldwide. No differences were observed in the rates of CCyR and MMR between patients with atypical patterns and reciprocal translocation.

Who should take responsibility for decisions on internationally recommended datasets? The case of the mass concentration of mercury in air at saturation

        Brown, Richard J C,Brewer, Paul J,Ent, Hugo,Fisicaro, Paola,Horvat, Milena,Kim, Ki-Hyun,Qu?tel, Christophe R BUREAU INTERNATIONAL DES POIDS ET MESURES 2015 METROLOGIA -BERLIN- Vol.52 No.5

<P>This paper considers how decisions on internationally recommended datasets are made and implemented and, further, how the ownership of these decisions comes about. Examples are given of conventionally agreed data and values where the responsibility is clear and comes about through official designation or by common usage and practice over long time periods. The example of the dataset describing the mass concentration of mercury in air at saturation is discussed in detail. This is a case where there are now several competing datasets that are in disagreement with each other, some with historical authority and some more recent but, arguably, with more robust metrological traceability to the SI. Further, it is elaborated that there is no body charged with the responsibility to make a decision on an international recommendation for such a dataset. This has led to the situation where several competing datasets are in use simultaneously. Close parallels are drawn with the current debate over changes to the ozone absorption cross section, which has equal importance to the measurement of ozone amount fraction in air and to subsequent compliance with air quality legislation. It is noted that in the case of the ozone cross section there is already a committee appointed to deliberate over any change. We make the proposal that a similar committee, under the auspices of IUPAC or the CIPM's CCQM (if it adopted a reference data function) could be formed to perform a similar role for the mass concentration of mercury in air at saturation.</P>

Stable Gastric Pentadecapeptide BPC 157, Robert’s Stomach Cytoprotection/Adaptive Cytoprotection/Organoprotection, and Selye’s Stress Coping Response: Progress, Achievements, and the Future

( Predrag Sikiric ),( Ki-baik Hahm ),( Alenka Boban Blagaic ),( Ante Tvrdeic ),( Katarina Horvat Pavlov ),( Andrea Petrovic ),( Antonio Kokot ),( Slaven Gojkovic ),( Ivan Krezic ),( Domagoj Drmic ),( 대한간학회 2020 Gut and Liver Vol.14 No.2

We reviewed again the significance of the stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 as a likely mediator of Robert’s stomach cytoprotection/adaptive cytoprotection and organoprotection and as novel mediator of Selye’s stress coping response to reestablish homeostasis. Specific points of BPC 157 therapy and the original concept of Robert’s cytoprotection/adaptive cytoprotection/organoprotection are discussed, including the beneficial effects of BPC 157. First, BPC 157 protects stomach cells and maintains gastric integrity against various noxious agents (Robert’s killing cell by contact) and is continuously present in the gastric mucosa and gastric juice. Additionally, BPC 157 protects against the adverse effects of alcohol and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on the gastric epithelium and other epithelia, that is, skin, liver, pancreas, heart (organoprotection), and brain, thereby suggesting its use in wound healing. Additionally, BPC 157 counteracts gastric endothelial injury that precedes and induces damage to the gastric epithelium and generalizes “gastric endothelial protection” to protection of the endothelium of other vessels (thrombosis, prolonged bleeding, and thrombocytopenia). BPC 157 also has an effect on blood vessels, resulting in vessel recruitment that circumvents vessel occlusion and the development of additional shunting and rapid bypass loops to rapidly reestablish the integrity of blood flow (ischemic/reperfusion colitis, duodenal lesions, cecal perforation, and inferior vena caval occlusion). Lastly, BPC 157 counteracts tumor cachexia, muscle wasting, and increases in pro-inflammatory/procachectic cytokines, such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α, and significantly corrects deranged muscle proliferation and myogenesis through changes in the expression of FoxO3a, p-AKT, p-mTOR, and p-GSK-3β (mitigating cancer cachexia).
