<P><B>Background:</B></P><P>Previous studies have identified the significant role of stressful life events in the onset of depressive episodes. However, there is a paucity of cross-national studies on stressful life events that precede depression.</P><P><B>Aims:</B></P><P>We aimed to compare types of stressful life events associated with the onset of depressive episodes in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) in five Asian countries.</P><P><B>Method:</B></P><P>A total of 507 outpatients with MDD were recruited in China (<I>n</I> = 114), South Korea (<I>n</I> = 101), Malaysia (<I>n</I> = 90), Thailand (<I>n</I> = 103) and Taiwan (<I>n</I> = 99). All patients were assessed with the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview and the List of Threatening Experiences. The prevalence of each type of stressful life events was calculated and compared between each country.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>The type of stressful life event that preceded the onset of a depressive episode differed between patients in China and Taiwan and those in South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. Patients in China and Taiwan were less likely to report interpersonal relationship problems and occupational/financial problems than patients in South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>Understanding the nature and basis of culturally determined susceptibilities to specific stressful life events is critical for establishing a policy of depression prevention and providing effective counseling services for depressed patients.</P>
A Pilot Study on TeleBot, a Internet-based Teleoperated Robot

This paper presents a user study on an implemented Internet-based teleoperation robot named TeleBot. The objectives of the study were to: a) test the usability of TeleBot, b) compare two commonly used devices to control TeleBot, and c) understand further development and requirement of TeleBot by examining how operators use TeleBot to complete a specific task. A task-oriented user study that included navigating TeleBot to a specific location and use TeleBot’s arm to touch a “X” marking placed on the door, was designed. Eight participants performed the same task using two different types of device. Both objective and subjective data were collected during the study. The results indicated that a) TeleBot demonstrated a certain level of usability; b) showed that the gamepad was slightly easier to use for teleoperation and finally c) deduced further developmental area for TeleBot.
2019 Seoul Consensus on Esophageal Achalasia Guidelines

Esophageal achalasia is a primary motility disorder characterized by insufficient lower esophageal sphincter relaxation and loss of esophageal peristalsis. Achalasia is a chronic disease that causes progressive irreversible loss of esophageal motor function. The recent development of high-resolution manometry has facilitated the diagnosis of achalasia, and determining the achalasia subtypes based on high-resolution manometry can be important when deciding on treatment methods. Peroral endoscopic myotomy is less invasive than surgery with comparable efficacy. The present guidelines (the “2019 Seoul Consensus on Esophageal Achalasia Guidelines”) were developed based on evidence-based medicine; the Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association and Korean Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility served as the operating and development committees, respectively. The development of the guidelines began in June 2018, and a draft consensus based on the Delphi process was achieved in April 2019. The guidelines consist of 18 recommendations: 2 pertaining to the definition and epidemiology of achalasia, 6 pertaining to diagnoses, and 10 pertaining to treatments. The endoscopic treatment section is based on the latest evidence from meta-analyses. Clinicians (including gastroenterologists, upper gastrointestinal tract surgeons, general physicians, nurses, and other hospital workers) and patients could use these guidelines to make an informed decision on the management of achalasia. An Orthogonal Study of Industrial Scale Colour Fading Process of Cotton Fabric

Colour fading is now a popular process used for imparting a vintage look to textile and fashion products, whichenhances market value because of the current fashion trends. This study examined a non-aqueous colour fading process with the use of oxygen plasma-induced ozone treatment. An industrial scale machine and commercially available red sulpur-dyed cotton fabric (with 0.5 %, 1.5 % and 2.5 % colour depths) were used in this study. Since the colour fading process factors are inter-related to each other, a specific experiment approach, i.e. orthogonal method, was used for obtaining the optimum conditions in an industrial scale colour fading process. Three process factors used in the industrial scale colour fading process, i.e. (i) oxygen gas concentration (%); (ii) amount of water in fabric (%); and (iii) treatment time (minutes), would be studied in this paper. Through the orthogonal method, the optimum conditions for colour fading of the three colour depths of cotton fabric dyed by red sulphur dye were determined and their optimum conditions were same. The optimum conditions of the colour fading of the three colour depths were: (i) 70 % oxygen gas concentration; (ii) 35 % amount of water in fabric; and (iii) 30 minutes treatment time. Although colour fading conditions are the same, the order of importance of these process factors was different. Unlike the conventional colour fading process, oxygen plasma-induced ozone colour fading treatment can achieve uniform and even colour fading effect in the cotton fabric effectively.
