      • Analytical study of the failure mode and pullout capacity of suction anchors in clay

        Liu, Haixiao,Wang, Chen,Zhao, Yanbing Techno-Press 2013 Ocean systems engineering Vol.3 No.2

Suction anchors are widely adopted in mooring systems. However there are still challenges in predicting the failure mode and ultimate pullout capacity of the anchor. Previously published methods for predicting the inclined pullout capacity of suction anchors are mainly based on experimental data or the FEM analysis. In the present work, an analytical method that is capable of predicting the failure mode and ultimate pullout capacity of the suction anchor in clay under inclined loading is developed. This method is based on a rational mechanical model for suction anchors and the knowledge of the mechanism that the anchor fails in seabed soils. In order to examine the analytical model, the failure angle and pullout capacity of suction anchors from FEM simulation, numerical solution and laboratory tests in uniform and linear cohesive soils are employed to compare with the theoretical predictions and the agreement is satisfactory. An analytical method that can evaluate the optimal position of the attachment point is also proposed in the present study. The present work proves that the failure mode and pullout capacity of suction anchors can be reasonably determined by the developed analytical method.

      • Analytical study of the failure mode and pullout capacity of suction anchors in sand

        Liu, Haixiao,Peng, Jinsong,Zhao, Yanbing Techno-Press 2015 Ocean systems engineering Vol.5 No.4

Suction anchors are widely adopted and play an important role in mooring systems. However, how to reliably predict the failure mode and ultimate pullout capacity of the anchor in sand, especially by an easy-to-use theoretical method, is still a great challenge. Existing methods for predicting the inclined pullout capacity of suction anchors in sand are mainly based on experiments or finite element analysis. In the present work, based on a rational mechanical model for suction anchors and the failure mechanism of the anchor in the seabed, an analytical model is developed which can predict the failure mode and ultimate pullout capacity of suction anchors in sand under inclined loading. Detailed parametric analysis is performed to explore the effects of different parameters on the failure mode and ultimate pullout capacity of the anchor. To examine the present model, the results from experiments and finite element analysis are employed to compare with the theoretical predictions, and a general agreement is obtained. An analytical method that can evaluate the optimal position of the attachment point is also proposed in the present study. The present work demonstrates that the failure mode and pullout capacity of suction anchors in sand can be easily and reasonably predicted by the theoretical model, which might be a useful supplement to the experimental and numerical methods in analyzing the behavior of suction anchors.

Free vibration analysis of circular cylindrical shell on elastic foundation using the Rayleigh-Ritz method

        Jinsong Yang,Jianbin Cao,Jingsong Xie,Haixiao Zhao 국제구조공학회 2021 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.80 No.1

A general approach is presented for the free vibration analysis of circular cylindrical shell resting on elastic foundation and subjected to classical boundary conditions of any type. The Winkler/Pasternak model is utilized to simulate the elastic foundation imposed on the cylindrical shell, and then it is easily to derive the potential energy of the elastic foundation. Based on the Flügge shell theory, explicit expressions for the mass and stiffness matrices are obtained. By taking the characteristic beam modal functions as the admissible functions, the Rayleigh-Ritz method is employed to derive the frequency equations of circular cylindrical shell with all the classical boundary conditions and resting on elastic foundation. Once the frequency equation has been determined, the frequencies can be calculated numerically. The excellent accuracy and validity of the present approach are demonstrated by numerical examples and comparisons with the results available in the literature. Finally, some further numerical results are given to illustrate the comprehensive effect of geometric properties and foundation coefficients on the frequencies of circular cylindrical shell in contact with elastic foundation.

Rheinic acid ameliorates radiation‑induced acute enteritis in rats through PPAR‑γ/NF‑κB

        Haixia Sha,Yu Gu,Weixing Shen,Li Zhang,Fei Qian,Yudong Zhao,Haixiao Li,Ting Zhang,Weimin Lu 한국유전학회 2019 Genes & Genomics Vol.41 No.8

Background Acute radiation enteritis (ARE), a common complication of intestinal caused by abdominal and pelvic radiation therapy. Rheinic acid is a major active ingredient derived from Rhubarb. Rhubarb could suppress inflammation, tumor, fibrosis oxidative damage. However, RA as the main active component and extract monomer of Rhubarb, the pharmacological activity and the underlying molecular mechanism on various diseases has not yet been revealed. Objective To determine the potential role of rheinic acid (RA) in ameliorating inflammation of rats with acute radiation enteritis (ARE), and explore the underlying mechanism. Methods ARE rat model was established by irradiated with single-dose 10 Gy X-rays at a rate of 0.62 Gy/min to the abdomen. The rats were executed after orally administered with Rheinic acid 7 days and used in the subsequent experiments. Body weight, fecal characteristics and bloody of rats were used to assess the disease activity index. Histological analysis of the jejunum and colon were evaluated using H&E staining. The pro-inflammatory cytokines levels were measured by immunohistochemistry and ELISA. The levels of nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) were also determined. The mRNA and protein expression were examined by real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot, respectively. Results Rheinic acid promoted intestinal functional recovery, and ameliorated intestinal damage and bloody stool in ARE rats. Rheinic acid strongly decreased the levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1, interleukin-6, NO, and MDA, whereas increased levels of anti-oxidants, SOD and GSH. Moreover, the expression of apoptosis-related proteins, cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), were decreased with RA treatment. Further study indicated that PPAR-γ was activated and thereby NF-κB and p38 MAPK signaling pathway were suppressed after rheinic acid treatment. Conclusion Rheinic acid could ameliorate acute radiation enteritis and the underlying molecular mechanism is, at least partially, through PPAR-γ/NF-κB and p38 MAPK/JNK pathways.
