Accurate detection of small targets in aerial images is crucial but challenging due to the limited computational resources of UAVs. This paper presents an efficient approach based on YOLO-V5S for detecting and classifying distant vehicles in aerial scenes. Extensive ablation study is conducted to find the optimal YOLO architecture. The proposed method is efficient and effective, making it applicable for real-time deployment. A dataset of 1000 annotated images are developed to validate the proposed method's effectiveness. The proposed network outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods in accuracy, speed, and resource efficiency, making it a promising solution for aerial vision-based applications.

Animal detection and classification are crucial for effective wildlife management (WM) and reducing risks associated with animals related road accidents and attacks. Previous attempts trained the models using imbalanced data with fewer representative features and baseline models without improvement. This paper presents a new dataset of five animal classes captured in various poses, lighting conditions, and intraclass variations. The standard coupled detection head of the YoloV4 algorithm faces limitations when performing simultaneous classification and localization due to shared parameters and inputs. To address this issue, we propose a decoupled detection head (DDH) that handles these tasks separately, improving performance. We conducted extensive experiments using the proposed dataset. We found that the optimal backbone features marginally improve the performance of the modified network compared to state-of-the-art (SOTA) works in the subject domain. Our work contributes by addressing the limitations of the standard YoloV4 algorithm and proposing a new dataset for researchers to use in future studies.

The fault and disturbances estimation has an important role in the modern traction railway system. This paper proposes a unique method for the real-time robust sensor fault detection and unknown bounded disturbances estimation of high switching frequency single-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier. The new state observer is designed for open-circuit sensors fault for single-phase PWM rectifier. The digital realization method is used to minimize the observer fluctuation in presence of fault with and without external disturbance. The fault diagnosis approach constitutes on threshold establishment with respect to residual generation based on observer and estimator. The impact of uncertainties is reduced and the convergence speed of fault estimation and accuracy is improved by H∞ performance level. The extensive simulations are implemented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. From the presented results, the performance of the proposed method is illustrated along with the fault isolation and disturbance estimator.

We empirically examine the role of the banking market structure and financial development for the growth of manufacturing and the financially dependent industries in China over the period of 1999–2014. We use both structural and non-structural approaches to assess the banking market structure and relate them to the growth of the manufacturing industries. The results of the study indicate that bank competition inspires industrial growth, particularly the growth of the financially dependent industries. Our findings further suggest that bank concentration undermines the growth of manufacturing industries in general and growth of the financially dependent industries in particular. These results are consistent across a number of sensitivity checks covering alternative measures of financial dependence, institutional factors such as property rights, quality of accounting standards and bank ownership and endogeneity consideration.

Present-day solar panels incorporate inverters as their core components. Switching devices driven by specialized power controllers are operated in a transformerless inverter topology. However, some challenges associated with this configuration include the absence of isolation, causing leakage currents to flow through various components toward ground. This inevitably causes power losses, often being also the primary reason for the power inverters' analog equipment failure. In this paper, various aspects of the leakage currents are studied using different circuit analysis methods. The primary objective is to convert the leakage current energy into a usable DC voltage source. The research is focused on harvesting the leakage currents for producing circa 1.1 V, derived from recently developed rectifier circuits, and driving a $200{\Omega}$ load with a power in the milliwatt range. Even though the output voltage level is low, the harvested power could be used for charging small batteries or capacitors, even driving light loads.

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for analysis of kidney stones
Aysha Habib Khan,Sheharbano Imran,Jamsheer Talati,Lena Jafri 대한비뇨의학회 2018 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.59 No.1
Purpose: To compare the results of a chemical method of kidney stone analysis with the results of Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Materials and Methods: Kidney stones collected between June and October 2015 were simultaneously analyzed by chemical and FT-IR methods. Results: Kidney stones (n=449) were collected from patients from 1 to 81 years old. Most stones were from adults, with only 11.5% from children (aged 3–16 years) and 1.5% from children aged <2 years. The male to female ratio was 4.6. In adults, the calcium oxalate stone type, calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM, n=224), was the most common crystal, followed by uric acid and calcium oxalate dihydrate (COD, n=83). In children, the most frequently occurring type was predominantly COD (n=21), followed by COM (n=11), ammonium urate (n=10), carbonate apatite (n=6), uric acid (n=4), and cystine (n=1). Core composition in 22 stones showed ammonium urate (n=2), COM (n=2), and carbonate apatite (n=1) in five stones, while uric acid crystals were detected (n=13) by FT-IR. While chemical analysis identified 3 stones as uric acid and the rest as calcium oxalate only. Agreement between the two methods was moderate, with a kappa statistic of 0.57 (95% confidence interval, 0.5–0.64). Disagreement was noted in the analysis of 77 stones. Conclusions: FT-IR analysis of kidney stones can overcome many limitations associated with chemical analysis.

Fire detection is a significant attempt for preserving public safety in complex surveillance environments. Although advances in deep learning for fire detection, the task remains challenging due to the natural irregularity in fire images, including differences in lighting conditions, occlusions, and background complexity. To address these challenges, we present a novel framework for fire detection named fire channel attention network (FCAN), which is capable of differentiating challenging fire scenes. Our approach is motivated by the need to enhance the accuracy of fire detection by selectively emphasizing the most informative channels of the input image through a channel attention (CA). Furthermore, our model captures the salient features from the input image and suppresses the irrelevant ones, thereby overcoming the aforementioned challenges of fire detection. The FCAN is evaluated on two benchmark datasets and surpassed existing methods in terms of accuracy and F1 score. The proposed model demonstrates the effectiveness of fire detection, highlighting its potential for practical applications in fire safety and prevention.
The Effect of Bank Liquidity on Bank's Stability in the Presence of Managerial Optimism
HABIB, Ashfaq,KHAN, Muhammad Asif,MEYER, Natanya Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.8
Bank stability serves as a prerequisite for the smooth functioning of economic and financial activities in the country. Banks face numerous risks, and liquidity plays an essential role in determining a bank's long-term growth and financial stability. By using the sample of 70 banks of the Gulf Cooperation Council, this study examines the association between funding the liquidity and the creation of liquidity and their impact on bank stability. Firstly, the reciprocal relationship reveals between funding the liquidity and the creation of liquidity by employing the 2SLS regression model. Further, by employing the dynamic GMM model, the research finds that funding liquidity is significant and positively influences bank stability. However, bank stability is significantly negatively influenced by the creation of liquidity, but the combined effect of funding the liquidity and creation of liquidity positively explains the bank stability. Additionally, this study reveals that managerial optimism biases contribute to determining the bank's liquidity and long-term stability. The finding of this study supports the executives, policymakers, and management of banks in understating liquidity risks, efficiency, and bank stability. The findings support regulatory guidelines mainly by the Basel III framework, which places more importance on the joint management of funding the liquidity and creation of liquidity in the economy.
