        Optimizations of Canny Edge Detection in Ghost Imaging

        An optimization of the Canny edge detector’s application in ghost imaging is presented. Based on the pseudo-thermal light ghost imaging scheme with a binary object, a thin and accurate edge map can be extracted by using a Gaussian-filtering-optimized Canny edge detector. The scale of the Gaussian filter in Canny edge detection algorithm is the dominate factor in the performance of the edge detector, and can be evaluated by the bit error rate of reconstructed binary image based on the edge map. Simulation results indicate the optimal window size of Gaussian filter for ghost imaging is proportional to the full width at half maximum of the self-correlation function in the idler arm samples without any priori knowledge of the object. Experimental results show that, with an appropriate Gaussian filter, the reconstructed binary image can approach the original binary object with the minimum bit error rate, which means the edge detection result is optimal.

        Green production of PVC from laboratory to industrialization: State-of-the-art review of heterogeneous non-mercury catalysts for acetylene hydrochlorination

        This review gives a summary on heterogeneous non-mercury catalysts for acetylene hydrochlorination process. First, various catalysts are classified and their performances are compared. Next, studies on catalytic performance by theoretical characterizations and molecule level simulations are introduced. Then, efforts for industrial scaling up and corresponding long-term plant trial results are presented to show enormous potential of state-of-the-art catalysts. Finally, the crucial engineering issues for future industrialization process including kinetic study, reactor design & simulation and material recycling process are proposed. Based on promising achievements, we believe that extensive industrial application of non-mercury catalysts for acetylene hydrochlorination will soon become reality.

        Spectral Changes of a Radial Gaussian Schell-model Beam Array Propagating in non-Kolmogorov Turbulence

        The Spectral characteristics of a radial Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beam array propagating innon-Kolmogorov turbulence are investigated theoretically. The spectrum of the GSM beam arrayis shown to be greatly influenced by both the source and the non-Kolmogorov parameters. Theeffects of the propagation distance, the spatial coherence of the source, the ring radius and thebeam number of the array beam, the generalized exponent, and the inner scale parameters of non-Kolmogorov turbulence on the spectrum are studied in detail. The results show that two identicalspectral maxima exist for the normalized on-axis spectrum and a rapid transition in spectrumcan occur when the above-mentioned parameters have specific critical values. The effects of theseparameters on the relative spectral shift are also studied in detail.

        FEW WALLED CARBON NANOTUBE PRODUCTION IN LARGE-SCALE BY NANO-AGGLOMERATE FLUIDIZED-BED PROCESS

        Few walled carbon nanotubes (FWCNTs) have been successfully synthesized using a nano-agglomerate fluidized-bed process. FWCNTs can be obtained by fluidization of Fe(Co/Ni)/Mo/MgO catalysts at a high temperature with methane cracking in a nano-agglomerate fluidized-bed reactor. The products were mainly 2 to 5 walled CNTs with an outer diameter of 1–7 nm in high purity, as revealed by Raman spectrometry, SEM, and HRTEM analysis. Two keys were crucial for this process. The first key was to get the small size of activity catalyst particles which was realized by Mo addition in catalyst. The graphitization of FWCNTs strongly depended on the composition of catalyst. Fe/Mo/MgO catalyst showed the highest activity and the FWCNT product with the best graphitization. Another key for this process was that the particles must be kept in fluidized state during FWCNT formation. Detailed process information was reported in this article, which showed a potential way for the large scale production of FWCNTs, thereby the urgent need for FWCNTs in high performance will be overcome.

        Synthesis and characterization of a K/K2CO3-based solid superbase as a catalyst in propylene dimerization

        A novel solid superbase 3%K/K2CO3 was prepared by loading metallic potassium on K2CO3. The optimized preparation conditions included a loading time of 1.5 h, loading temperature of 150 oC, loading amount of 3wt% and average carrier size of 120 μm. Under the optimum conditions, the conversion of propylene is about 60% with the selectivity of dimers 98.5% and the selectivity of 4MP1 86.3%. In addition, the superbase 3%K/K2CO3 has a base strength of H−≥37, and the concentration of basic sites of H−≥35 is approximately 0.3mmol·g−1 CAT. The microcrystal of metallic potassium was determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was assumed that the oxygen species, which are adjacent to lattice defects, such as the crystalline corners, edges and vacancies of metallic potassium microcrystals, constituted the superbasic sites.
