        Genome-wide identification and analysis of MIKC-type MADS-box genes expression in Chimonanthus salicifolius

        Background MIKC type MADS-box transcription factors are one of the largest gene families and play a pivotal role in flowering time and flower development. Chimonanthus salicifolius belongs to the family Calycanthaceae and has a unique flowering time and flowering morphology compared to other Chimonanthus species, but the research on MIKC type MADS-box gene family of C. salicifolius has not been reported. Objective Identification, comprehensive bioinformatic analysis, the expression pattern of MIKC-type MADS-box gene family from different tissues of C. salicifolius. Methods Genome-wide investigation and expression pattern under different tissues of the MIKC-type MADS-box gene family in C. salicifolius, and their phylogenetic relationships, evolutionary characteristics, gene structure, motif distribution, promoter cis-acting element were performed. Results A total of 29 MIKC-type MADS-box genes were identified from the whole genome sequencing. Interspecies synteny analysis revealed more significant collinearity between C. salicifolius and the magnoliids species compared to eudicots and monocots. MIKC-type MADS-box genes from the same subfamily share similar distribution patterns, gene structure, and expression patterns. Compared with Arabidopsis thaliana, Nymphaea colorata, and Chimonanthus praecox, the FLC genes were absent in C. salicifolius, while the AGL6 subfamily was expanded in C. salicifolius. The selectively expanded promoter (AGL6) and lack of repressor (FLC) genes may explain the earlier flowering in C. salicifolius. The loss of the AP3 homologous gene in C. salicifolius is probably the primary cause of the morphological distinction between C. salicifolius and C. praecox. The csAGL6a gene is specifically expressed in the flowering process and indicates the potential function of promoting flowering. Conclusion This study offers a genome-wide identification and expression profiling of the MIKC-types MADS-box genes in the C. salicifolius, and establishes the foundation for screening flowering development genes and understanding the potential function of the MIKC-types MADS-box genes in the C. salicifolius.

        Bacterial Fruit Rot of Apricot Caused by Burkholderia cepacia in China

        An unreported disease of apricot was observed in orchards in Zhejiang province, China. Symptoms started as water soaked lesions on the fruit surface. Later, water-soaked areas developed and spread to the entire fruit, resulting in soft rot of the whole fruit. The causal organism isolated from symptomatic fruits was identified as Burkholderia cepacia based on its biochemical and physiological characteristics and confirmed by the cellular fatty acid composition and Biolog data as well as 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. The bacterial isolates caused similar symptoms when inoculated onto fruits of apricot. In addition, European plum, Japanese plum, nectarine and kiwifruit were susceptible to the B. cepacia pathogen. However, the B. cepacia pathogen failed to cause any visible symptoms when it was inoculated onto 16 other fruits. This is the first report of a bacterial disease of apricot caused by B. cepacia in China.

      • Long Non-coding RNAs are Differentially Expressed in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Lines with Differing Metastatic Potential

        Background: Metastasis is a major reason for poor prognosis in patients with cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A salient feature is the ability of cancer cells to colonize different organs. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in numerous cellular processes, including metastasis. Materials and Methods: In this study, the lncRNA expression profiles of two HCC cell lines, one with high potential for metastasis to the lung (HCCLM3) and the other to lymph nodes (HCCLYM-H2) were assessed using the Arraystar Human LncRNA Array v2.0, which contains 33,045 lncRNAs and 30,215 mRNAs. Coding-non-coding gene co-expression (CNC) networks were constructed and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was performed to identify lncRNAs with potential functions in organ-specific metastasis. Levels of two representative lncRNAs and one representative mRNA, RP5-1014O16.1, lincRNA-TSPAN8 and TSPAN8, were further detected in HCC cell lines with differing metastasis potential by qRT-PCR. Results: Using microarray data, we identified 1,482 lncRNAs and 1,629 mRNAs that were differentially expressed (${\geq}1.5$ fold-change) between the two HCC cell lines. The most upregulated lncRNAs in H2 were RP11-672F9.1, RP5-1014O16.1, and RP11-501G6.1, while the most downregulated ones were lincRNA-TSPAN8, lincRNA-CALCA, C14orf132, NCRNA00173, and CR613944. The most upregulated mRNAs in H2 were C15orf48, PSG2, and PSG8, while the most downregulated ones were CALCB, CD81, CD24, TSPAN8, and SOST. Among them, lincRNA-TSPAN8 and TSPAN8 were found highly expressed in high lung metastatic potential HCC cells, while lowly expressed in no or low lung metastatic potential HCC cells. RP5-1014O16.1 was highly expressed in high lymphatic metastatic potential HCC cell lines, while lowly expressed in no lymphatic metastatic potential HCC cell lines. Conclusions: We provide the first detailed description of lncRNA expression profiles related to organ-specific metastasis in HCC. We demonstrated that a large number of lncRNAs may play important roles in driving HCC cells to metastasize to different sites; these lncRNAs may provide novel molecular biomarkers and offer a new basis for combating metastasis in HCC cases.

        Extensibility of Visual Expression in Projection Mapping Installation Art; Focused on Examples and Projection Mapping Installation Artwork Domino

        최근 센서 경험을 위한 새로운 매체들의 발전은 프로젝션맵핑, 가상현실과 같은 비디오 설치 미술의 시각적 표현을 더욱 확장시키고 있다. 예술가들은 새로운 매체들들 통해 새로운 시각적 표현 기법을 개발하고 발전시킬 수 있다. 프로젝션맵 핑 기술은 지속적으로 미디어아트 작품의 시각적 표현에 다양한 가능성을 부여하고 있다. 본 논문은 프로젝션맵핑 기술에 기반한 시각 표현이 인간의 감각 체험으로 전이되고 확장되는 과정을 연구하기 위해서, 매체가 갖는 '복제성,' '전파성,' '가상 성' 그리고 '인터랙션'의 특징을 분석함으로써 시각적 표현을 정의하고 의미를 기술하였다. 작품 분석을 통해 '반복과 중첩,' ‘시뮬라이크롬과 은유,’ ‘치환과 전환’의 시각적 표현 기법에 대해 분석하고, 프로젝션맵핑 작품인 <Domino>에 적용함으로써 시각 표현 기법이 인간의 감각 체험으로 확장되는 과정을 연구하였다. 시각적 표현의 확장성 연구는 작품을 제작하는 예술가 들이나 관람하는 관객들에게 작품의 의미를 전달하거나 해석하는데 필요한 핵심 요소이다. Recent advances in new media for sensory experiences keep expanding visual expression methods in installation art such as projection mapping and virtual reality. Artists can create and develop visual expression techniques based on such new media. Projection mapping is a new medium that continues to add various possibilities to visual expression in media art. Under the projection mapping environment, artists can recompose the object or space with the digital content by projecting video onto three-dimensional surfaces in the space. This paper focuses on the process where visual expression with the projection mapping technology leads to viewers’ sensory experience. To this end, “reproducibility,” “dissemination,” “virtuality,” and “interactivity” of media were analyzed to describe the meaning and *definition of visual expression. Artworks are considered as an example to study visual expression techniques such as “repetition and overlap,” “simulacrum and metaphor,” and “displacement and conversion.” I applied the analysis and created Domino, a projection mapping artwork, which helps the research on visual expression techniques that can lead to sensory experience the extensibility of visual expression.

      • Lack of Association of Common Polymorphisms in MUC1 Gene with H. pylori Infection and Non-cardia Gastric Cancer Risk in a Chinese Population

        Several lines of evidence support the notion that MUC1 is often aberrantly expressed in gastric cancer, and it is a ligand for Helicobacter pylori. Genetic variation in MUC1 gene may confer susceptibility to H. pylori infection and gastric cancer. We assessed the association of common polymorphisms in MUC1 gene with H. pylori infection and non-cardia gastric cancer using an LD-based tag SNP approach in north-western Chinese Han population. A total of four SNPs were successfully genotyped among 288 patients with non-cardia gastric cancer and 281 age- and sex-matched controls. None of the tested SNPs was associated with H. pylori infection. SNP rs9426886 was associated with a decreased risk of non-cardia gastric cancer, but lost significance after adjustment for multiple testing. Overall, our data indicated that common genetic variations in MUC1 gene might not make a major contribution to the risk of H. pylori infection and non-cardia gastric cancer in our studied population.

        Facile synthesis of silver-decorated magnetic nanospheres used as effective and recyclable antibacterial agents

        The development of a highly effective and recyclable antibacterial agent is of great interest. In this work, magnetic Fe3O4/Ag antibacterial nanoagent was successfully fabricated through a facile surface functionalization approach. Utilizing the strong interaction between silver and the amino groups on the surface of Fe3O4 nanospheres, the nanosized silver particles were tightly bonded on the Fe3O4 nanospheres' surface, improving silver nanoparticalsʼ antibacterial activity by preventing agglomeration of silver nanoparticles. Our antibacterial tests showed that the as-synthesized Fe3O4/Ag nanospheres presented high antibacterial performance against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Moreover, these antibacterial nanohybrids can be easily recycled from water solution by applying an external magnetic field. Overall, taking into consideration the facile preparation method, excellent antibacterial activity and high magnetic recycling property, the as-synthesized Fe3O4/Ag nanospheres have great potential applications in medicine and water disinfection.

      • Study on Corner Reflectors Identification in Highway Deformation Monitoring

        CRInSAR is a newly developed technique to monitor ground deformation. In CRInSAR algorithm, the identification of Corner Reflectors in SAR images is necessary. Due to the uncertainty of traditional identification method, a new method based on the intensity and correlation coefficient of each CR candidates in SAR images is presented. The method has been successfully used to determine the locations of 11 CRs installed along a highway in six SAR images over the study area. The results show that the identification accuracy of the new method is about 1 pixel. It is effective and reliable especially in the area with lots of lightspots around the CR points. The method proposed can play important role in the highway deformation monitoring within CRInSAR algorithm.

      • Common Genetic Variations in the MUC5AC Gene are Not Related to Helicobacter pylori Serologic Status

        Several lines of evidence suggest that MUC5AC genetic polymorphisms might confer susceptibility to H. pylori infection and therefore gastric cancer risk. We here assessed the association of common polymorphisms in the MUC5AC gene with H. pylori seroprevalence using an LD-based tagSNP approach in a north-western Chinese Han population. A total of 12 tagSNPs were successfully genotyped among 281 unrelated ethnic Han Chinese who had no cancer history, and no identifiable gastric disease or genetic disease. No significant association between any alleles, genotypes or haplotypes and H. pylori seroprevalence was observed. Our results suggest that common genetic variations in MUC5AC gene might not make a major contribution to the risk of H. pylori infection.

      • Association Analysis of Common Genetic Variations in MUC5AC Gene with the Risk of Non-cardia Gastric Cancer in a Chinese Population

        Several lines of evidence suggest that genetic variation in MUC5AC gene might contribute to the risk of gastric cancer. We conducted a case-control study to evaluate the relationship between common genetic variations in MUC5AC gene and non-cardia gastric cancer using an LD-based tagSNP approach in Baotou, north-western China. We genotyped 12 tagSNPs by TaqMan method among 288 cases with non-cardia gastric cancer and 281 normal controls. Unconditional logistic regression was used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for non-cardia gastric cancer risk in association with alleles, genotypes and haplotypes. We observed that the frequencies of rs3793964 C allele and rs11040869 A allele were significantly lower in cases than in controls. Meanwhile, minor allele homozygotes of rs3793964 and rs11040869 were significantly associated with a decreased risk of non-cardia gastric cancer when compared with their major allele homozygotes. Furthermore, a statistically significantly protective effect of rs885454 genotypes on non-cardia gastric cancer was also observed (for CT vs. CC: OR=0.581, 95%CI=0.408-0.829; for CT/TT vs. CC: OR=0.623, 95%CI=0.451-0.884). Our results indicated that some common genetic variations in the MUC5AC gene might have effects on the risk of non-cardia gastric cancer in our studied population.
