REMARKS ON THE WIENER POLARITY INDEX OF SOME GRAPH OPERATIONS

Faghani, Morteza,Ashrafi, Ali Reza,Ori, Ottorino The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2012 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.30 No.3

The Wiener polarity index$W_p(G)$ of a graph G of order $n$ is the number of unordered pairs of vertices $u$ and $v$ of G such that the distance $d_G(u,v)$ between $u$ and $v$ is 3. In this paper the Wiener polarity index of some graph operations are computed. As an application of our results, the Wiener polarity index of a polybuckyball fullerene and $C_4$ nanotubes and nanotori are computed.

      • Effects of Sexual Rehabilitation Using the PLISSIT Model on Quality of Sexual Life and Sexual Functioning in Post-Mastectomy Breast Cancer Survivors

Faghani, Safieh,Ghaffari, Fatemeh Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.11

Background and Objectives: As one of the most common treatments for breast cancer, mastectomy has adverse effects on the quality of sexual life and sexual functioning in the impacted women. Various strategies have therefore been proposed to resolve their sexual problems. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of sexual rehabilitation using the PLISSIT model in post-mastectomy breast cancer survivors. Materials and Methods: The present quasi-experimental study was conducted on a population of post-mastectomy breast cancer survivors and their husbands. Sample size was calculated as 50 each for intervention and non-intervention groups. The former received sexual counseling based on the PLISSIT model consisting of four levels of intervention: permission, limited information, specific suggestion and intensive therapy, presented in four 90-minute sessions. Data were collected using the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQOL-F) questionnaire and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Results: No significant differences were observed in the mean quality of sexual life scores between the intervention and control groups (P>0.05) before the intervention; however, a significant difference emerged between the groups after the intervention (P<0.01). Thus the mean score for sexual functioning in the intervention group was $26.3{\pm}3.76$ before and $30.0{\pm}4.38$ after the intervention (P<0.0001). In the control group, however, the difference between the pre- and post-intervention mean scores was not statistically significant (P=0.713). Conclusion: The present study showed that nurses can use the PLISSIT model in conjunction with chemotherapy and radiotherapy to teach coping and problem-solving skills to women with breast cancer and their husbands and to encourage their participation in group programs for expressing their feelings and attitudes about their current sex life and thus help enhance quality of sexual life and sexual functioning in this group.

      • Social Support and its Predictors Among Iranian Cancer Survivors

Faghani, Safieh,Rahmani, Azad,Parizad, Naser,Mohajjel-Aghdam, Ali-Reza,Hassankhani, Hadi,Mohammadpoorasl, Asghar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.22

Background: Social support is an important factor in psycho-social well-being of cancer survivors. There is little information about level of social support and its predictors among cancer survivors in Iran or other Middle Eastern countries. The aims of present study were to determine the social support and its prediction factors among Iranian cancer survivors. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study 187 cancer patients in one educational center and one private oncology office in northwest of Iran participated using a convenient sampling method. The data collection tool consisted of a researcher-prepared checklist and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support Assessment (MSPSS). Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software with descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The total score of MSPSS was 68 from a possible score between 7 and 84. Participants believed that they received a high level of support from their family members and significant others. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that single and depressed cancer survivors and participants with lower levels of physical activity believed that they received lower levels of social support. Conclusions: Iranian cancer survivors receive high levels of social support and family members are the most important source of this support. In planning any supportive care program for Iranian cancer survivors this strength should be considered. Especially, single and depressed and patients with lower levels of physical activity need more attention.

      • A New Ethernet Switching Based on Extended Shortcut Switching Strategy

        Farhad Faghani,Ghasem Mirjalily 대한전자공학회 2017 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.1

Spanning Tree Protocol is a layer-2 IEEE approved standard that provides a loop-free forwarding topology in Ethernet networks. In STP some links are active and the others are blocked. This guarantees only one route between each node pair. As in STP there is not any traffic engineering mechanism for load balancing, these results in uneven load distribution and bottlenecks especially close to the Root. In this paper we propose a new forwarding strategy based on using Shortcut Switching Strategy and hierarchical addressing and we will show we can achieve better results in comparison with STP.

      • Flow Table Design in Software Defined Networking based on PSO algorithm for enhanced packet loss and delay

        Abbas Tataei,Farhad Faghani 대한전자공학회 2017 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.1

In the Software Design Network (SDN), Control Plane and Data Plane are separated from each other [1], [2], so we can improve many of network parameters by using this advantage in control plane utilizing algorithms and applying the control policies. With improving the quality of these parameters, we can enhance the Quality of Service in a network. In this study, the aim is to carry out orders which are designed in Application Layer by programmer and provide for control layer and apply to switches by it. We can minimize the rate of Packet Loss with designing multi flow table and use Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm to find best network graph and consider the omission of the Loop in the network which contribute to reduce delay in the received packets and finally, raise Throughput and the Reliability and increase QOS, MININET Emulator and Pox controller were simulated and the results were compared with the previous networks.

The amelioration of nicotine-induced reproductive impairment in male mouse by Sambucus ebulus L. fruit extract

        Fahimeh Mohammadghasemi,Korosh Khanaki,Hamid Moravati,Masoumeh Faghani 대한해부학회 2021 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.54 No.2

Nicotine as a toxic agent in cigarette smoke impairs the reproductive system. Sambucus ebulus extract (SEE) is shown to have some beneficial effects such as antioxidant properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of SEE on the hormones of the pituitary-gonadal axis, lipid peroxidation index, antioxidant enzymes, spermatogenesis, and epididymal sperm parameters in male mice treated with nicotine. Adult male mice were divided into five groups; A: normal saline, B: 1 mg/kg nicotine, C: 1 mg/kg nicotine and 10 mg/kg SEE, D: 1 mg/kg nicotine and 50 mg/kg SEE, D: 1 mg/kg nicotine and 100 mg/kg SEE. Treatments lasted for 35 days. The spermicidal activity of SEE was tested in vitro. Sperm count, motility and morphology were assessed for fertility. Serum testosterone, prolactin and luteinizing hormone (LH) were measured, using ELISA. Serum malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured, using colorimetric assays. Spermatogenesis was evaluated by Johnsen’s score and morphometry in histological slides. SEE at different doses did not have any spermicidal activity. Sperm parameters were reduced in the nicotine-treated group, compared with controls (P<0.01). Nicotine reduced testosterone and LH levels (P<0.01) and increased prolactin (P<0.01). A hike in MDA and a reduction in SOD activity without change on CAT, were observed in the nicotine group. Nicotine caused hypospermatogenesis. SEE improved most of the above-mentioned parameters, especially in the doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg. Beneficial effects of SEE in the doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg on male reproduction impairment, induced by nicotine might be partly attributed to the reduction of oxidative stress and changes in the hormones of the pituitary-gonadal axis.

      • The Nature of Hope among Iranian Cancer Patients

Afrooz, Rashed,Rahmani, Azad,Zamanzadeh, Vahid,Abdullahzadeh, Farahnaz,Azadi, Arman,Faghany, Safieh,Pirzadeh, Asgar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.21

Background: Hope is an important coping resource for cancer patients. Types and sources of hope and hope-inspiring strategies are not well investigated among Iranian cancer patients. The aims of present study were therefore to investigate the nature of hope and some demographic predictors of hope among Iranian cancer patients. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was undertaken among 200 cancer patients admitted to an educational center affiliated to Ardabil University of Medical Sciences, Iran. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling method. The Herth Hope Index and other validated questionnaires were used to investigate level of hope and types and sources of hope, as well as hope-inspiring strategies. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software. Results: The overall score for hope was 31 from total scores ranging between 12 and 48. Some 94% of patients mentioned 'return to normal life' and 'complete healing of disease by drugs and physicians' as their main hopes. The most important sources of hope reported by patients include spiritual resources, family members, healthcare workers, and medicines and treatments available for the disease. Relationship with God, praying/blessing, controlling the signs and symptoms of the disease, and family/health care workers' support were the main hope-inspiring strategies. Patients who had a history of metastasis, or who were older, illiterate, divorced/widowed and lived with their children reported lower levels of hope. On the other hand, employed patients and those with good support from their families had higher levels of hope. Conclusions: The study findings showed moderate to high levels of hope among Iranian cancer patients. Accordingly, the role of spiritual/religion, family members and health care workers should be considered in developing care plans for these patients.
