<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A simple and effective method was developed for analyzing dinotefuran and its three metabolites (MNG, UF, and DN) in plum using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Due to the polarity and high water miscibility, dinotefuran and some of its metabolites (especially DN) have some limitations to be extracted with acetonitrile and salt following the “QuEChERS” sample preparation methodology. Alternatively, the samples were extracted with methanol, and purified with dispersive-solid phase extraction procedure (d-SPE) using primary secondary amine (PSA) and C18 sorbents after filtration, and mass up. Due to the suppression effect originated from plum matrix, matrix-matched calibration curves, which provided good linearity with coefficient of determination (<I>R2 </I>)≥0.998, were used for quantification of all analytes. Blank plum samples fortified with 2 spiking levels (10×LOQ and 50×LOQ) yielded satisfactory recoveries for all tested analytes in the range of 83.01 to 110.18% with relative standard deviation (RSD)≤8.91. The method was successfully applied to field-incurred plum samples and dinotefuran and all metabolites were positively detected and quantified. In conclusion, we suggest that the method can be expanded to polar compounds having solvent and partitioning problems in any of the versions of QuEChERS.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A simultaneous method was developed for dinotefuran and its highly polar metabolites in plum. </LI> <LI> Mass-up was introduced instead of salting out for exact quantitation. </LI> <LI> Internal standard is not needed for the newly developed methodology. </LI> <LI> The method can be used either as it is or with slight modification in other matrices. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Rahman, A. F. M. Motiur,Kim, Dong-Hyeon,Liang, Jing-Lu,Lee, Eung-Seok,Na, Young-Hwa,Jun, Kyu-Yeon,Kwon, Young-Joo,Jahng, Yurng-Dong Korean Chemical Society 2008 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.29 No.10
A series of new derivatives on the ring A of luotonin A were prepared by Friedländer condensation of 6,7,8,10- tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-b]quinazoline-6,10-dione and suitably substituted 2-aminobenzaldehydes and 2- aminoacetophenones. Their inhibitory activities on topoisomerases and cytotoxicities against selected human cancer cell lines were evaluated. Among the compounds tested, 8-fluoroluotonin A showed similar inhibitory activity on topoisomerase I comparable to camptothecin while luotonin A and 9-hydroxyluotonin A showed 1.37 and 0.94 times stronger inhibitory activity, respectively, on topoisomerase II compared to etoposide. Some derivatives of luotonin A showed moderate cytotoxicity. The possible relationship between the inhibitory activity on Topo II and the cytotoxicity of luotonin A and its analogues, thus, cannot be ruled out.

STATISTICAL GAUSSIAN DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION AS A DISTANCE INDICATOR TO STELLAR GROUPS
Abdel-Rahman, H.I.,Issa, I.A.,Sharaf, M.A.,Nouh, M.I.,Bakry, A.,Osman, A.I.,Saad, A.S.,Kamal, F.Y.,Essam, Essam The Korean Astronomical Society 2009 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.42 No.4
In this paper, statistical distribution functions are developed for distance determination of stellar groups. This method depends on the assumption that absolute magnitudes and apparent magnitudes follow a Gaussian distribution function. Due to the limits of the integrands of the frequency function of apparent and absolute magnitudes, we introduce Case A, B, and C Gaussian distributions. The developed approaches have been implemented to determine distances to some clusters and stellar associations. The comparison with the distances derived by different authors reveals good agreement.

A total 930 outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) were recorded in Bangladesh from 1988 to 1991. Number of FMD outbreaks was recorded highest in Rajshahi division (304) followed by Dhaka (272), Khulna (203) and Chittagong (151). During 1988 to 1991, FMD outbreaks reached in peak level in 1990 (540) followed by 1989 (209), 1988 (95) and 1991 (86). Outbreaks though occurred throughout the year were higher in premonsoon and winter seasons. Morbidity rate was found significantly higher (p<0.01) in cattle (35.5%) than buffaloes (23.3%) and sheep/goats (4.8%). Of the cattle, bull/bullock infected more (p<0.01) than cows and calves. Morbidity rate in different animals was observed significantly higher (p<0.01) in Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions than in Khulna and Chittagong. Mortality specially in calves was found at the rate of 50.9%. Loss in milk yield was found to be 66.6%. Disease period for a FMD affected cattle varied from 16 to 26 days (average 22.7 days). Loss of working days per working cattle ranged from 14 to 24 days (average 21.2 days) and the loss in draft energy per cattle was found to be 12.7 to 18.9 KW hour.
Conception Rate of Pabna Cows and Heifers Bred Under Artificial Insemination and Natural Service
Howlader, M.M.R.,Mian, M.F.,Kamal, A.H.M.,Prodhan, M.A.M.,Rahman, M.F. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1997 Animal Bioscience Vol.10 No.3
A study on the conception rate of 885 cows and heifers bred under artificial insemination (AI) and natural service was carried out at AI sub-centers. A high conception rate was observed at first service in all breeding methods. It was revealed that the conception rates in AI with liquid semen (LS) were found to be 25.08, 18.58, 12.69, and 2.48% after 1, 2, 3 and 4 services, respectively. Inseminations of cattle with frozen semen (FS) were found to achieve 42.15, 14.46, 5.85, and 2.46% conception rates after 1, 2, 3, and 4 services, respectively. In natural service, conception rates were found to be 62.45, 6.75, 5.91, and 4.64%, respectively, after 1, 2, 3, and 4 services. Insemination of cows and heifers at mid-cycle had significantly (p < 0.05) higher conception rate as compared to early and late cycles. The existing AI machineries and breeding management need to be improved to achieve higher conception rate of dairy cattle under AI.

Three feeding trials were conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding rate and water temperature on growth and body composition of juvenile Korean rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli rearing at 3 different water temperatures. A total of 270 fish (each experiment) individual body weight (BW) averaging $16{\pm}0.3g$ ($mean{\pm}SD$) were fed a commercial diet for 4 wk at $16^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, and $24^{\circ}C$. At each temperature, triplicate tanks were assigned to one of 6 feeding rates: 1.5%, 2.5%, 2.8%, 3.1%, 3.4%, and satiation (3.7% BW/d) at $16^{\circ}C$, 1.9%, 2.9%, 3.2%, 3.5%, 3.8% and satiation (4.1% BW/d) at $20^{\circ}C$ and 1.7%, 2.7%, 3.0%, 3.3%, 3.6%, and satiation (3.9% BW/d) at $24^{\circ}C$ water temperature. Weight gains of fish in satiation and 3.4% groups at $16^{\circ}C$, in satiation and 3.8% groups at $20^{\circ}C$ and in satiation and 3.6% groups at $24^{\circ}C$ were significantly higher than those of fish in the other treatments (p<0.05). A broken line regression analysis of weight gain indicated that optimum feeding rates of juvenile Korean rockfish were 3.41% at $16^{\circ}C$, 3.75% at $20^{\circ}C$ and 3.34% at $24^{\circ}C$ water temperature. Results of the present study indicate that the optimum feeding rate could be >3.1% but <3.41% at $16^{\circ}C$, >3.5% but <3.75% at $20^{\circ}C$ and >3.0% but <3.34% at $24^{\circ}C$. As we expected results suggest that fish performed better at $20^{\circ}C$ than $16^{\circ}C$ or $24^{\circ}C$ water temperature and the optimum feeding rate could be 3.1% BW/d to 3.7% BW/d in 16 g of juvenile Korean rockfish.
STRAINS OF FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE VIRUS IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS OF BANGLADESH
Chowdhury, S.M.Z.H.,Rahman, M.F.,Rahman, M.B.,Rahman, M.M. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1996 Animal Bioscience Vol.9 No.3
An investigation was carried out to find out the strains of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) virus in 24 districts of Bangladesh. A total of 505 FMD virus samples were collected from June, 1989 to June, 1991 and tested by complement fixation test (CFT). Of these, 276 (54.7%) were found positive for different strains of FMD virus and the rest 45.3% were either negative or anticomplementary. Strains identified were O, C, Asia-1 and sub-strains $A_5$ and $A_{22}$. Strain O was found to be most prevalent(39.8%) followed by Asia-1 (5.7%), C (5.3%), $A_5$ (3.4%) and $A_{22}$ (0.4%). Prevalence of sub-strain $A_5$ was reported for the first time in Bangladesh. District-wise typing of FMD virus has been done which would be helpful for appropriate vaccination programme in different districts of Bangladesh for control of the malady.
