        STATISTICAL CONVERGENCE FOR GENERAL BETA OPERATORS

        In this paper, we consider general Beta operators, which is a general sequence of integral type operators including Beta function. We study the King type Beta operators which preserves the third test function $x^2$. We obtain some approximation properties, which include rate of convergence and statistical convergence. Finally, we show how to reach best estimation by these operators.

        Application of effective drought index for quantification of meteorological drought events: a case study in Australia

        <P>Drought indices (DIs) that quantify drought events by their onset, termination, and subsequent properties such as the severity, duration, and peak intensity are practical stratagems for monitoring and evaluating the impacts of drought. In this study, the effective drought index (EDI) calculated over daily timescales was utilized to quantify short-term (dry spells) and ongoing drought events using drought monitoring data in Australia. EDI was an intensive DI that considered daily water accumulation with a weighting function applied to daily rainfall data with the passage of time. A statistical analysis of the distribution of water deficit period relative to the base period was performed where a run-sum method was adopted to identify drought onset for any day (i) with EDI (i) < 0 (rainfall below normal). Drought properties were enumerated in terms of (1) severity (AEDI ae<inverted exclamation> accumulated sum of EDIi < 0), (2) duration (DS ae<inverted exclamation> cumulative number of days with EDIi < 0), (3) peak intensity (EDImin ae<inverted exclamation> minimum EDI of a drought event), (4) annual drought severity (YAEDI ae<inverted exclamation> yearly accumulated negative EDI), and (5) accumulated severity of ongoing drought using event-accumulated EDI (EAEDI). The analysis of EDI signal enabled the detection and quantification of a number of drought events in Australia: Federation Drought (1897-1903), 1911-1916 Drought, 1925-1929 Drought, World War II Drought (1937-1945), and Millennium Drought (2002-2010). In comparison with the other droughts, Millennium Drought was exemplified as an unprecedented dry period especially in Victoria (EAEDI ae -4243, DS = 1946 days, EDImin = -4.05, and YAEDI = -4903). For the weather station tested in Northern Territory, the worst drought was recorded during 1925-1929 period. The results justified the suitability of effective drought index as a useful scientific tool for monitoring of drought progression, onset and termination, and ranking of drought based on severity, duration, and peak intensity, which allows an assessment of accumulated stress caused by short- and long-term (protracted) dry events.</P>

      • Estimation of monthly evaporative loss using relevance vector machine, extreme learning machine and multivariate adaptive regression spline models

        <P>The forecasting of evaporative loss (E) is vital for water resource management and understanding of hydrological process for farming practices, ecosystem management and hydrologic engineering. This study has developed three machine learning algorithms, namely the relevance vector machine (RVM), extreme learning machine (ELM) and multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS) for the prediction of E using five predictor variables, incident solar radiation (S), maximum temperature (T (max)), minimum temperature (T (min)), atmospheric vapor pressure (VP) and precipitation (P). The RVM model is based on the Bayesian formulation of a linear model with appropriate prior that results in sparse representations. The ELM model is computationally efficient algorithm based on Single Layer Feedforward Neural Network with hidden neurons that randomly choose input weights and the MARS model is built on flexible regression algorithm that generally divides solution space into intervals of predictor variables and fits splines (basis functions) to each interval. By utilizing random sampling process, the predictor data were partitioned into the training phase (70 % of data) and testing phase (remainder 30 %). The equations for the prediction of monthly E were formulated. The RVM model was devised using the radial basis function, while the ELM model comprised of 5 inputs and 10 hidden neurons and used the radial basis activation function, and the MARS model utilized 15 basis functions. The decomposition of variance among the predictor dataset of the MARS model yielded the largest magnitude of the Generalized Cross Validation statistic (a parts per thousand 0.03) when the T (max) was used as an input, followed by the relatively lower value (a parts per thousand 0.028, 0.019) for inputs defined by the S and VP. This confirmed that the prediction of E utilized the largest contributions of the predictive features from the T (max), verified emphatically by sensitivity analysis test. The model performance statistics yielded correlation coefficients of 0.979 (RVM), 0.977 (ELM) and 0.974 (MARS), Root-Mean-Square-Errors of 9.306, 9.714 and 10.457 and Mean-Absolute-Error of 0.034, 0.035 and 0.038. Despite the small differences in the overall prediction skill, the RVM model appeared to be more accurate in prediction of E. It is therefore advocated that the RVM model can be employed as a promising machine learning tool for the prediction of evaporative loss.</P>

        On the Rate of Convergence of Modified Baskakov Type Operators on Functions of Bounded Variation

        Quantitative Screening of Insect Cell Transformants Stably Expressing $GFP_{uv}-{\beta}1$, 3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 2 Fusion Protein

        Insect cell transformants, stably expressing human $GFP_{uv}-{\beta}1$, 3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 2 $({\beta}3GnT2)$ as the green fluorescent protein $(GFP_{uv})-fused$ protein, were efficiently isolated on Western blot by the quantification of the densitometric intensity of the fusion protein. From almost 150 transformants containing the fusion gene linked to three different types of signal sequence, two transformants, Tn-pXme4a and -pX28a, were successfully selected, showing 8.3 and 8.6 mU/mL ${\beta}3GnT$ activity, respectively. This method requires a screening time almost one-half that required in the isolation of stably transformed cells with high expression levels, and at the same time allows the handling a large number of transformants.

      • 대학생이 지각하는 부모 양육태도가 다차원적 완벽주의에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 대학생이 지각한 부모 양육태도가 다차원적 완벽주의에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대학생 328명(여: 246명, 남: 82명)을 대상으로 조건부 관심 강화, 조건부 관심 철회, 자율성 지지를 포함한 부모 양육태도와 다차원적 완벽주의(자기지향 완벽주의, 타인지향 완벽주의, 사회부과 완벽주의)를 측정하였다. 자료분석을 위해 각 변인 간의 상관관계를 검토하고, 부모 양육태도가 다차원적 완벽주의에 미치는 영향력을 살펴보기 위해 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조건부 관심 철회, 자율성 지지와 자기지향 완벽주의를 제외한 모든 연구변인들은 유의미한 상관을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 위계적 회귀분석 결과 조건부 관심 강화만이 자기지향 완벽주의에 유의한 정적 영향을 나타냈다. 셋째, 조건부 관심 철회만이 타인지향 완벽주의에 유의한 정적 영향을 나타냈다. 넷째, 조건부 관심 강화, 조건부 관심 철회, 자율성지지 모두 사회부과 완벽주의에 미치는 설명력이 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 한 본 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 후속연구에 대한 제언을 논의하였다. The purpose of this study is to investigated the effects of parental conditional regard, parental autonomy support on their multidimensional perfectionism. A total of 328 students participated in the study. A correlation analysis and multiple regression analyses were performed to analyze the data. The research results are as follows. First, All variables except for the relationship between conditional negative regard, autonomy support and self-oriented perfectionism were significant. Second, as results of multiple regression analyses, parental conditional positive regard positive effect on the self-oriented perfectionism. Third, parental conditional negative regard had a significant positive effect on the other-oriented perfectionism. Fourth, parental conditional negative regard and parental conditional positive regard had a positive effect, while parental autonomy support significantly explained the socially prescribed perfectionism. Based on these findings, the implications, the limitations of this study, and the suggestions for further research were discussed.

        사용자의 얼굴과 카메라 영상 간의 호모그래피를 이용한 실시간 얼굴 움직임 추정

        본 논문에서는 단일 카메라를 이용하여 얼굴의 움직임 정보를 추정하고 3차원 모델을 합성하기 위한 기법을 제안한다. 먼저 단일 카메라 입력 영상에서 사용자의 얼굴 영역 특징 점 취득을 위한 4개의 하부 이미지를 획득한다. 획득된 4개의 하부 이미지를 템플릿으로 사용하여 사용자 얼굴 영역의 정보를 추출하며, 이들 4개의 특징 점을 사용하여 사용자 얼굴과 카메라 영상 평면 사이의 사영 관계를 계산한다. 취득된 카메라 행렬로부터 얼굴의 움직임 정보인 이동과 회전 성분을 추정할 수 있으며, 이를 기반으로 3차원 모델의 자세 정보를 설정한 다음 이를 사용자 얼굴에 가상의 객체를 합성하기 위한 정보로 이용한다. 다양한 실험을 통하여 사용자 얼굴의 움직임에 대한 정보 추출의 정확도를 검증하였다. In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient algorithm for head pose estimation using a single camera. First, four subimages are obtained from the camera image for face feature extraction. These subimages are used as feature templates. The templates are then tracked by Kalman filtering, and camera projective matrix is computed by the projective mapping between the templates and their coordinate in the 3D coordinate system. And the user's face pose is estimated from the projective mapping between the user's face and image plane. The accuracy and the robustness of our technique is verified on the experimental results of several real video sequences.
