Barros Beatriz Amstalden,Oliveira Letícia Ribeiro de,Surur Cíntia Regina Crocetti,Barros-Filho Antonio de Azevedo,Maciel-Guerra Andrea Trevas,Guerra-Junior Gil 대한소아내분비학회 2021 Annals of Pediatirc Endocrinology & Metabolism Vol.26 No.1
Complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) is a rare condition characterized by 46,XY karyotype, female external genitalia, absence of uterus, and testes located intra-abdominally, in the inguinal ring or in the labia majora. In the present study, the frequency of testicular malignancy in prepubertal and pubertal patients with CAIS who underwent gonadectomy or gonadal biopsy were evaluated. Systematic review was performed using electronic databases according to the PRISMA-P (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols) guidelines. The samples included 15 articles published between 1998 and 2019. From a total of 456 patients who underwent gonadectomy or gonadal biopsy, 6.14% had a premalignant lesion and most were postpubertal (82.14%). A malignant lesion was found in 1.3% and all were postpubertal. Because the risk of malignancy is very low in prepubertal patients with CAIS, gonadectomy may be delayed until puberty is complete, allowing it to progress naturally; however, close follow-up of the patient is required.
Closed form interaction surfaces for nonlinear design codes of RC columns with MC 90
M. H. F. M. Barros,C. C. Ferreira,A. F. M. Barros 한국계산역학회 2005 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.2 No.1
The closed form solution of the equilibrium equations in the ultimate design of reinforced concrete sections under biaxial bending is presented. The stresses in the materials are described by the Model Code 1990 equations. Computation of the integral equations is performed generally in terms of all variables. The deformed shape of the section in the ultimate conditions is defined by Heaviside functions. The procedure is convenient for the use of mathematical manipulation programs and the results are easily included into nonlinear analysis codes. The equations developed for rectangular sections can be applied for other sections, such as T, L, I for instance, by decomposition into rectangles. Numerical examples of the developed model for rectangular sections and composed sections are included.
Nonlinear analysis of service stresses in reinforced concrete sections-closed form solutions
Helena F.M. Barros,Rogério A.F. Martins 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2012 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.10 No.5
This paper presents an algorithm for the evaluation of stresses in reinforced concrete sections under service loads. The algorithm is applicable to any section defined by polygonal contours and is based on an analytical integration of the stresses. The nonlinear behaviour of concrete is represented by the parabola-rectangle law used in the Eurocode-2 for the ultimate concrete design. An integrated definition of the strains in concrete and steel is possible by the use of Heaviside functions, similarly to what is done for ultimate section design in Barros et al. (2004). Other constitutive equations for the definition of the stresses in the concrete or steel can be easily incorporated into the code. The examples presented consist in the evaluation of resulting axial load and bending moment in an irregular section and in a section in L shape. The results, for service stresses, can also be plotted in terms of design abacus; a rectangular doubly reinforced section is presented as example.
On the Regulation of Checked Baggage in the Airline Industry
Barros Jr Fernando,Castilho Rafael,Galveas Daniel 한국국제경제학회 2021 International Economic Journal Vol.35 No.3
In 2017, the Brazilian civil aviation agency changed the checkedbaggage policy, and airline companies would no longer be required to offer free baggage for its passengers. This paper builds a model to study the effects on the market equilibrium of this change in regulation. We suppose that firms operate in an oligopoly market and compete by choosing tickets and baggage quantity as in a Cournot model. Firms had to offer a free quota of baggage, which was set to zero with the deregulation. Both products enter in the firm’s cost function. First, we show that the firm’s profits do not change with the liberalization policy. Then, we calibrate the model’s parameters using Brazilian data. Backed up by numerical simulations, we show that allowing firms to charge baggage separately from tickets results in a decrease in ticket prices (but an increase in total prices) and an increase in the amount of tickets sold in the market. Consumers are expected to have a larger surplus, hence increasing the market welfare. Our results are robust to variations in the parameters of the model.

Purpose: This study evaluated the impact of artifacts generated by metal crowns on the detection of proximal caries lesions in teeth at various distances using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Additionally, the diagnostic impacts of tube current and metal artifact reduction (MAR) were investigated. Materials and Methods: Thirty teeth were arranged within 10 phantoms, each containing 1 first premolar, 1 second premolar, and 1 second molar. A sound first molar (for the control group) or a tooth with a metal crown was placed. Of the 60 proximal surfaces evaluated, 15 were sound and 45 exhibited enamel caries. CBCT scans were acquired using an OP300 Maxio unit (Instrumentarium, Tuusula, Finland), while varying the tube current (4, 8, or 12.5 mA) and enabling or disabling MAR. Five observers assessed mesial and distal surfaces using a 5-point scale. Multi-way analysis of variance was employed for data comparison, with P<0.05 indicating statistical significance. Results: The area under the curve (AUC) varied from 0.40 to 0.60 (sensitivity: 0.28-0.45, specificity: 0.44-0.80). The diagnostic accuracy was not significantly affected by the presence of a metal crown, milliamperage, or MAR (P>0.05). However, the overall AUC and specificity were significantly lower for surfaces near a crown (P<0.05). Conclusion: CBCT-based caries detection was not influenced by the presence of a metal crown, variations in milliamperage, or MAR activation. However, the diagnostic accuracy was low and was further diminished for surfaces near a crown. Consequently, CBCT is not recommended for the detection of incipient caries lesions.
Steel fibre reinforced concrete for elements failing in bending and in shear
Barros, Joaquim A.O.,Lourenco, Lucio A.P.,Soltanzadeh, Fatemeh,Taheri, Mahsa Techno-Press 2013 Advances in concrete construction Vol.1 No.1
Discrete steel fibres can increase significantly the bending and the shear resistance of concrete structural elements when Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) is designed in such a way that fibre reinforcing mechanisms are optimized. To assess the fibre reinforcement effectiveness in shallow structural elements failing in bending and in shear, experimental and numerical research were performed. Uniaxial compression and bending tests were executed to derive the constitutive laws of the developed SFRC. Using a cross-section layered model and the material constitutive laws, the deformational behaviour of structural elements failing in bending was predicted from the moment-curvature relationship of the representative cross sections. To evaluate the influence of the percentage of fibres on the shear resistance of shallow structures, three point bending tests with shallow beams were performed. The applicability of the formulation proposed by RILEM TC 162-TDF for the prediction of the shear resistance of SFRC elements was evaluated. Inverse analysis was adopted to determine indirectly the values of the fracture mode I parameters of the developed SFRC. With these values, and using a softening diagram for modelling the crack shear softening behaviour, the response of the SFRC beams failing in shear was predicted.

This study aims to present a hydraulic transitory study as MOC applications for solving the Saint-Venant equations in two case studies: 1) in a penstock of a small hydropower system as a simple pipeline in the case of valve-closure in the downstream boundary with a reservoir in the upstream boundary; and 2) for discharge propagation into a channel by velocity and depth of the flow channel along space evaluation. The proposed methodology by Chaudry [5] concerning the development of hydrodynamic models was used. The obtained results for first and second case study has been confirmed that MOC numerical approach is useful for several engineering purposes, including cases of hydraulic transients and discharge propagation in hydraulic systems.
COVID-19 recommender system based on an annotated multilingual corpus
Barros, Marcia,Ruas, Pedro,Sousa, Diana,Bangash, Ali Haider,Couto, Francisco M. Korea Genome Organization 2021 Genomics & informatics Vol.19 No.3
Tracking the most recent advances in Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related research is essential, given the disease's novelty and its impact on society. However, with the publication pace speeding up, researchers and clinicians require automatic approaches to keep up with the incoming information regarding this disease. A solution to this problem requires the development of text mining pipelines; the efficiency of which strongly depends on the availability of curated corpora. However, there is a lack of COVID-19-related corpora, even more, if considering other languages besides English. This project's main contribution was the annotation of a multilingual parallel corpus and the generation of a recommendation dataset (EN-PT and EN-ES) regarding relevant entities, their relations, and recommendation, providing this resource to the community to improve the text mining research on COVID-19-related literature. This work was developed during the 7th Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon (BLAH7).
