Evidence for superior outcome by adhering to therapy guidelines is imperative to their acceptance and adaptation for the optimal management of disease variants. Objective: Comparative study of prospective outcomes in simultaneous consideration of independent variables in groups of 150 patients of plaque psoriasis either treated adhering to or in digression of standard guidelines. Methods: The psoriasis area severity index (PASI) and the dermatology life quality index (DLQI), prior to and after three months of uninterrupted therapy were examined in treatment groups among 150 patients. Recovery rates of 75% or more in PASI were compared. Independent variables were also examined for their bearing on the outcome. Results: The vast majority was early onset disease phenotype. All three treatment regimens when administered in adherence to the guidelines yielded significantly superior rates of defined recovery both in PASI and DLQI. Compromise of the therapeutic outcome appeared in high stress profiles, obesity, female sex and alcohol, tobacco or smoking habit. Conclusion: Conventional drug therapy of plaque psoriasis yields superior outcome by adhering to the consensus guidelines. Psychiatric address to stress must be integral and special considerations for phenotypic/syndromic variants is emphasized for effective therapy of psoriasis.
Radioprotective and Antioxidant Activity of Fractionated Extracts of Berries of Hippophae rhamnoides

Plants are an abundant source of medicinal compounds, some of which are useful in combating free radical-1002 (flavonoid-poor fraction) of Hippophae rhamnoideswere screened on the basis of their reducing power in the aqueousphase. REC-1001 was selected for further study, since it exhibited 27.38 times higher antioxidant activity than REC-1002.REC-1001 also showed significant (P. .05) membrane protection potential at 50 .g/mL, which was attributed to its abilityto scavenge peroxyl radicals (64.82. 1.25% scavenging within 1,440 min). A significant (P. .05) difference of 67.02% infree radical scavenging activity at 1,000 ng/mL between REC-1001 and vitamin E demonstrated the extract fraction’s worthc-tion. Further, REC-1001 was found to be nontoxic up to 200 mg/kg of body weight. This research suggests that the REC-1001 fraction of H. rhamnoidesextract is a safe and effective antioxidant nutraceutical product.

Purpose: Perineal transposition of the antropyloric valve following an anorectal excision as a substitute for a permanent colostomy has recently been reported in humans. However, the problem of neural control still remains in these patients. Our aim herein was to study the anatomical feasibility of an anastomosis between the pudendal nerve branches (inferior rectal nerve) innervating the external anal sphincter and the anterior vagal branches of the perineally-transposed antropyloric segment in cadavers. Methods: The antropyloric segment, along with its carefully dissected branch of the anterior vagus, was mobilized based on the left gastroepiploic pedicle in six fresh human cadavers. The antropyloric valve was then transposed in the perineum after the pudendal nerve branches had been dissected out, and an approximation of these two nerves was performed to ascertain the technical feasibility of their neural anastomosis. Results: The anterior vagus innervating the antropylorus could be harvested in all cadavers below the hepatic division of the main vagus trunk. The inferior rectal nerve or its branches were found consistently around the 3 or the 9 o’clock position in the ischioanal fossa. An anatomical tension-free approximation of the anterior vagus branch (of the transposed antropyloric segment) to the inferior rectal nerve in the perineum was feasible in all the cadavers studied. Conclusion: An inferior rectal nerve anastomosis with the anterior vagal branch of the perineally-transposed antropyloric segment can be achieved anatomically. This preliminary step can be the basis for future animal studies and subsequent clinical application of the procedure for possible neural control of the transposed antropyloric segment in the perineum.

Ba(Mg 1/3 ,Ta 2/3 )O 3 (BMT), a complex perovskite ceramic with extremely high Q u and that has been the only choice as dielec- tric resonator (DR) for satellite multiplexers extensively used in communication satellites. BMT DRs have been prepared by solid-state route by single-step calcinations followed by fi ring the green compacts at about 1600–1650 °C for 20 h. Excellent Q u -factor > 20,000 at 10 GHz achieved after annealing near 1000 °C combined with near-zero τ f and dielectric constant ( ε r ) ~ 24. The DRs are subjected to 100 kRad and 1MRad γ irradiation exposure. The resonant frequency and Q u are measured after the irradiation and found to be within the range of measurement error. This paper briefl y discusses the BMT process- ing, characterization, the properties and the eff ects of γ -radiation. These BMT DRs are useful for Satellite applications. The ten-pole filters have been assembled and its performance tested and verified.
Antimicrobial and lipid peroxidation inhibition activity of Oxystelma esculentum (Asclepiadaceae)

The aerial parts of methanol extract of Oxystelma esculentum (MEOE) (Asclepiadaceae) was evaluated for in vitro lipid peroxidation and antimicrobial activity. Lipid peroxidation was assayed by the change in optical density of the various concentrations (20 - 320 µg/ml) and the percentage inhibition was estimated. Ascorbate/FeSO4-induced peroxidation was inhibited by MEOE and standard antioxidants such as BHA, BHT and the percentage inhibition of the methanol extract was increased with dose dependent manner. The IC50 value of the MEOE, BHA and BHT for lipid peroxidation was found to be 135.24 µg/ml, 25.62 µg/ml and 17.13 µg/ml, respectively. The antimicrobial activity of MEOE was determined by disc diffusion method with three gram-positive, five gram-negative and two fungal microorganisms. MEOE exhibited the antimicrobial activity against the tested microorganisms except Salmonella typhimurium (MTCC 98). In present study, it is concluded that MEOE has significant effect in the inhibition of lipid peroxidation and possesses good antimicrobial activity.

Semen analysis is a basic test for evaluating male fertility potential, as it plays an essential role in driving the future management and treatment of infertility in couples. Manual semen analysis includes the evaluation of both macroscopic and microscopic parameters, whereas automated semen analysis is conducted through a computer-aided sperm analysis system and can include additional parameters that are not evaluated by manual analysis. Both quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) are important to ensure reproducible results for semen analysis, and represent fundamental checks and balances of all stages (pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical) of semen analysis. To ensure accuracy and precision, the laboratory technicians’ performance should be evaluated biannually. This narrative review aims to describe standardized laboratory procedures for an accurate assessment of semen parameters that incorporate both QC and QA practices.

In the Indian traditional medicine, Lippia nodiflora (Verbenaceae) whole plant is claimed to possess powerful diuretic activity. However, the diuretic potential of this plant is not yet investigated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diuretic potential of methanol extract of Lippia nodiflora (MELN) in rats. Control (0.9% saline solution, 25 ml/kg, b.w) or urea (1 g/kg b.w) or frusemide (5 mg/kg b.w) and different concentrations of MELN (200 and 400 mg/kg b.w) were intraperitoneally administered (n = 6 per each treatment group) to hydrated rats and their urine output was monitored over a period of 5 h and 24 h after drug administration. The diuretic responses with its electrolyte excretion potency of the extract were highly remarkable in comparison with control animals. The extract at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg shows a significant increase in volume of urine with increase in Na+, Ca2+ and Cl- excretion accompanied by the excretion of K+ in dose dependent manner. This study suggests that the active component(s) in MELN had similar diuretic effect to that of frusemide. These results validate the traditional use of Lippia nodiflora as a diuretic agent. Purely Extending Modules and Their Generalizations

A purely extending module is a generalization of an extending module. In this paper, we study several properties of purely extending modules and introduce the notion of purely essentially Baer modules. A module M is said to be a purely essentially Baer if the right annihilator in M of any left ideal of the endomorphism ring of M is essential in a pure submodule of M. We study some properties of purely essentially Baer modules and characterize von Neumann regular rings in terms of purely essentially Baer modules.
