Solar feed water heating feasibility for a conventional steam power plant
Ahsan Alam,Mubashir Ali Siddiqui,Naveed ur Rehman 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.7
Technical and economic feasibility of heating feed water through parabolic trough solar collectors has been discussed in this paper. This integration of solar energy with steam plants saves extraction steam, thus increasing turbine output. The study is based on a 210 MW Heavy fuel oil (HFO) fired power plant for Karachi weather conditions. Pressurized hot water storage system is used as heat storage medium. TRNSYS software is used to find out useful energy collected through parabolic trough collectors and heat storage in pressurized hot water storage system. Life cycle savings (LCS) using HFO prices of two different periods i.e. May, 2014 (higher HFO price) and Feb., 2016 (lower HFO price) are calculated and compared. Effect of change in HFO price on LCS is also presented. Integration of higher pressure FWH with solar energy is found more feasible in terms of LCS as compared to lower pressure FWH. Same methodology can be deployed on other plants around the globe to determine LCS and economic feasibility.
Production of Virus Free Seeds using Meristem Culture in Tomato Plant under Tropical Conditions
Alam M.F.,Banu M.L.A.,Swaraz A.M.,Parvez S.,Hossain M.,Khalekuzzaman M.,Ahsan N. The Korean Society of Plant Biotechnology 2004 Plant molecular biology and biotechnology research Vol.6 No.4
Protocol was established for production of virus free healthy seeds using meristem ($0.3-0.5\;\cal{mm}$ in size) culture and field management under net house condition in tomato. The isolated meristem was found well established in MS liquid medium containing $0.1\;\cal{mg}\;1^{-1}\;of\;GA_3$. For shoot and root development either from primary meristem or from nodal segment of meristem derived plants, semisolid MS medium having $0.5\;\cal{mg}\;1^{-1}$ of IBA was found most effective. The elimination of the studied viruses (ToMV, CMV, ToLCV) in meristem-derived plants was confirmed by DAS-ELISA test. For field management of the virus eradicated meristem-derived plants, use of net house was found very effective measures to check viral vector visit and eventually infection. The meristem-derived plants were vigor and high yielder than the native seed derived plants and produced healthy seeds. Due to stop vector visit, no viral symptoms were observed in both $R_1\;and\;R_2$ plants cultivated in net house condition. Starting of viral infestation was observed in $R_2$ generation when they were planted in open house condition without control of vector visit. Therefore, for management of viral diseases, use of virus free meristem derived plantlets and their subsequent cultivation in soil under net house condition without using any vector killing insecticide can be recommended for producing healthy seeds in tomato. The developed protocol for environmentally healthy tomato seed production in Bangladesh may be used in the countries having similar tropical like environment conducive for viral vector visit.
The Impact of Loyalty Program on Customer Retention: Empirical Evidence from Bangladesh
AHSAN, Syed Md. Hasib,ALAUDDIN, Md.,ALAM, Mohammad Manjur,NAZIA, Adiba,ISLAM, Tasnim Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.6
The purpose of this paper is to examine how loyalty programs designed by retail stores affect customer retention. The present study is one of the few empirical studies finding the role of different loyalty programs that help to build customer retention. The study also seeks to explore the moderation role of customer perceived value between intrinsic motivation - customer retention and extrinsic motivation - customer retention. The researchers employed a quantitative research design to collect data from the 350 respondents who purchased goods from the retail chain/departmental stores in Bangladesh. The collected data are then analyzed using structural equation modeling. The result of their findings indicated that the size of the organizational reward has a positive effect on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation; further extrinsic motivation has a significant relation to customer retention. Surprisingly, no support was found for the positive impact of intrinsic motivation on customer retention. Customer perceived value (CPV) is critical as a moderator in building client retention, which improves the positive association between extrinsic motivation and customer retention. CPV, on the other hand, was found to mitigate the negative link between intrinsic motivation and client retention.
Dynamics of Crude Oil and Real Exchange Rate in India
ALAM, Md. Shabbir,UDDIN, Mohammed Ahmar,JAMIL, Syed Ahsan Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.12
This scholarly work is an effort to capture the effects of oil prices on the actual exchange rate between dollar and rupee. This is done with reference to the U.S. dollar as oil prices are marked in USD (U.S. Dollar) in the international market, and India is among the top five importers of oil. Using monthly data from January 2001 to May 2020. The study used the real GDP, money supply, short-term interest rate difference between two countries, and inflation apart from the crude oil prices per barrel as the factors that help define the exchange rate. The analysis, through cointegration and vector error correction method (VECM), suggests long and short-run causality amid prices of oil and the rate of exchange fluctuations. Oil prices are found to be negatively related to the exchange rate in the long term but positively related in the short term. The result of the Wald test also indicates the short-run causation from the short-term interest rate and the prices of crude oil towards the exchange rate. The present study shows that oil prices are evidence of the existence of short-term and long-term driving associations with short-term interest rates and exchange rates.

With the aim to analyze stability performance of six promising barley genotypes, eleven yield related characters were evaluated employing varied irrigation treatments under the tropical climate of Northern part in Bangladesh. Analysis of variance(ANOVA), phenotypic index, regression co-efficient(bi) and deviation from regression($s^2_d$) of the individual genotypes were estimated to evaluate the stable performance of the genotypes. A significant interaction was observed between the genotypes and irrigation period($G{\times}T$). Among all the genotypes, BSH-2 showed stable performance for plant height under different irrigation period, where $P>\bar{X},\;bi{\sim}1\;and\;s^2_d{\sim}0$. High phenotypic index, lower bi value and low deviations from regression were observed in case of spikelet number per spike and grain number per spike for genotype BSH-2 and plant height, spike length and harvest index per plant for BB-2 which suggest that those parameters were not usually affected by irrigation. On the other hand the genotype BSH-2 for tiller number and BB-1 for the fertile tiller number were not suitable for favorable moisture content, where $P<\bar{X},\;bi>1.0\;and\;low\;s^2_d$. Thus we suggest that genotype BSH-2 might have transmit high mean and increased phenotypic stability to the next progenies, which may consider as an ideal genotype for developing improved barely cultivars.

Educational institutions play a critical role in national development through the advancement of skilled human resources and intellectual society. The number of higher educational institutions (HEIs) is increasing significantly in Bangladesh. Students have a number of options from which to select their preferred educational institutions. Hence, HEIs should think about the quality of services they provide to students. The objective of this study is to measure students’ satisfaction and university reputation through service quality (SQ) in a private higher educational institution (PriHEI) in Bangladesh. Primary data was collected from 270 students of International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC), Bangladesh, through a simple random sampling technique. In this study, data was analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation, measurement model using confirmatory factor analyses, and structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that transport services have indirect but medical and physical facilities have both direct and indirect significant effects on overall students’ satisfaction. Further, the administrative services and research facilities have significant indirect effects on overall students’ satisfaction. Finally, the results of structural equation modeling (SEM) confirm that the reputation of the university is directly associated with overall students’ satisfaction.

Various 2-amino-6-[3-(substituted phenyl)-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydropyrazol-1-yl]-4-(substituted phenyl)nicotinonitriles (3a-t) were designed and synthesized by clubbing two active anticonvulsant pharmacophores pyrazole and pyridine. All the synthesized compounds possessed the pharmacophoric elements essential for good anticonvulsant activity. The anticonvulsant screening was performed by maximal electroshock seizure (MES) and subcutaneous pentylenetetrazole (scPTZ) tests. Two compounds 3i and 3s showed significant anticonvulsant activity in both the screens with $ED_{50}$ values 17.5 mg/kg and 22.6 mg/kg respectively in MES screen and 154.1 mg/kg and 242.6 mg/kg respectively in scPTZ screen. They were also found to have no acute toxic effects in mice when tested at elevated doses.
