This article reviews the case management model from the social network point of view. Case management has emerged as an important practice model for community social welfare as the social welfare services shift their paradigm from the old "treatment-focused" practice to the new orientation toward "social care." It includes as its core component the social support--building, operating, and/or coordinating social networks--along with other functions. However, social newtwork studies have shown that social networks play several significant roles for individuals and groups. With respect to social welfare, its function as an imformation channel especially attracts our attention. Based on social network literature, I argue that the function of information channel, along with the social support function, should constitute the other core for the case management models. I also suggest that the two functions can be in a conflict relation. This article ends with some point that we should take into account when trying to integrate the two functions in the case management practice.
In Defense of Hume’s Skeptical Argument against Induction
이정규 한국철학회 2015 哲學 Vol.0 No.123
It is well known that Hume gave a powerful skeptical argument against induction. Many philosophers think that even though Hume’s description of induction is inadequate in some respects, his skeptical argument is still irrefutable. However, Okasha argues that this cannot be right: Once we adequately describe what we are doing with induction, Hume’s skeptical argument cannot be applied to this adequate description of induction any more. In this paper, in opposition to Okasha, I will argue that Hume's skeptical argument still can be applied even on the ‘adequate’ description of induction.
