Objectives: Although dental hygienists have a high employment rate as professional workers, turnover and retirement rates are very high. This study analyzed the factors related to work life of dental hygienists to prepare an alternative for life extension. Methods: From August 1 to December 31, 2019, 224 dental hygienists and 446 dental hygiene students were examined. Results: The expected working years for dental hygienists were 10-14 years (25.4%) and over 31 years (22.4%) for dental hygiene students. The recognized working years for dental hygienists were 10-14 years (22.4%) and 20-24 years (26.0%) for dental hygiene students. Work values of dental hygienists and dental hygiene students averaged 3.85 and 3.86, respectively. Furthermore, the average motive for selecting a major in dental hygienists was 3.08 points and in dental hygiene students, 3.24 points. The average career identity of dental hygienists and dental hygiene students were 2.82 and 2.91 points, respectively. Conclusions: The perception difference between dental hygienists and dental hygiene students was compared, and the factors that could play a positive role in prolonging life were identified. Based on this study, further systematic comparative studies and preparation of alternatives for life extension are required.
오미자 추출물의 구강병원균에 대한 항균효과 및 구취억제 효과

본 연구는 오미자 추출물의 구강병원균에 대한 항균활성과 항구취 효과를 조사하기 위해 수행되었다. 오미자 MeOH 추출물이 열수추출물에 비해 구강병원균에 대한 항균활성이 더 뛰어난 것으로 나타났다. 특히 MeOH 추출물의 EA 분획물은 Streptococcus mutans, S. sanguinis, S. salivaris subsp. thermophols 그리고 Porphyromons gingivalis에 대한 활성이 뛰어난 것으로 조사되었다. 오미자 2% MeOH 추출물의 항구취 효과를 oral chroma를 이용한 실제실험에서 측정한 결과, 황화수소, 메틸머캅탄 그리고 황화디메틸을 각각 91.15, 78.72 그리고 71.58% 감소시키는 것으로 측정되었다. 본 연구 결과, 오미자 추출물은 몇몇의 구강병원균에 대한 항균활성을 보였고 휘발성 화합물을 억제하는 효과가 뛰어난 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 오미자의 추출물은 항균용 합성약품과 구강위생용품을 대체할 수 있는 소재로 판단된다. This study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial and anti-oral malodor effect of Schizandra chinensis extracts against oral pathogens. S. chinensis methanol (MeOH) extract showed better antimicrobial activities against oral pathogens than the S. chinensis hot water extract did. In particular, ethylacetate (EA) fraction of S. chinensis MeOH extract had the greatest effects against Streptococcus mutans, S. sanguinis, S. salivaris subsp. thermophols and Porphyromons gingivalis. The anti-malodor effect of S. chinensis against the generation of volatile sulfur compounds (VSC), such as hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide, was estimated using oral chroma in a practical study. The results showed that 2% MeOH extract of S. chinensis against the production of hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide had inhibitions of 91.15, 78.72 and 71.58%, respectively. These results showed that Schizandra chinensis extract had antimicrobial activity against several oral pathogens and exhibited significant effects on the inhibition of VSCs. Thus, Schizandra chinensis extract could be an alternative to available synthetic chemicals and oral hygiene products.
치위생과 학생들의 임상실습 스트레스와 만족도, 자아개념간의 관련성 연구

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the current status of the relationship between clinical practice stress, satisfaction and self-concept of dental hygiene department students in order to effectively implement the clinical practice, which is a necessary course for professional dental hygienists. Methods: The subjects in this study were 299 dental hygiene department students who participated in clinical practice. The survey was conducted from November 1, 2017 to December 31, using self-filling questionnaire (INJE 2017-08-004-002). Statistical analysis was conducted to identify the clinical practice characteristics, clinical practice stress, satisfaction and self-concept and the results according to clinical practice characteristics were compared through t-test and ANOVA. The regression analysis was conducted to identify the effects on self concept. Results: Clinical practice stress, satisfaction and self concept were identified to be significant(p<0.01). Multiple regression analysis results of the factors affecting self concept of study subjects showed that self concept was statistically significant in grade, education programs and satisfaction. Conclusions: Self-concept, clinical practice stress and satisfaction were significantly correlated. In order to raise the quality of clinical practice and to become a professional dental hygienist, it is necessary to continue research on the measures to improve the stress management and satisfaction in clinical practice for establishing self-concept.

Objectives: This study is designed to identify the need for an efficient infection control plan in the curriculum of Dept. of Dental Hygiene and encourage dental hygienists to be more attentive to infection control by analyzing their personal protective measures, hand-washing frequency and other factors relating to infection control. Methods: A survey was conducted of 471 dental hygienists in general hospitals, dental clinics and dental hospitals in City of Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do from December 20, 2009 to February 21, 2010. Results: 1. Among those who worked for more than 11 years, personal protection (3.79) and hand-washing frequency (3.90) factors were rated high (p<0.05). 2. When surveyedby workplace, personal protection was high in general hospitals (3.75) while hand-washing frequency was high in dental clinics (3.74). 3. Among those who received infection control education more than three times, personal protection (4.07) and hand-washing frequency (3.80) were high (p<0.05). 4. Personal protection-related factors were general hospital workers, necessity of infection control education and awareness on infectious disease (p<0.05), while factors associated with handwashing frequency were number of patients per day, whether or not infection control-related class is given at school, necessity of infection control education and awareness on infectious disease (p<0.05). Conclusions: To enhance awareness of infection control, it may be necessary to addan infection control-related class to the school curriculum and provide the necessity of conducting continuous and systematic infection control education through newly entering staff training and education of dental practitioners. Antimicrobial and Anti-halitosis Effects of Alnus firma Extracts

사방오리나무의 분획물과 분리화합물인 gallic acid의 항우식 작용과 항구취 활성을 조사하기 위해 구강병원균에 대한 항균활성, 부착능 그리고 산 생성을 조사하였다. 그리고 휘발성 황화합물의 측정은 oral chroma를 이용하여 구취억제 효과를 측정하였다. DCM 분획물은 넓은 항균스펙트럼을 가졌으며, EA 분획물은 Streptococcus mutans와 Porphyromons gingivalis에 대해 상대적으로 높은 항균활성을 가진 것으로 나타났다. 게다가 GA와 DCM 분획물은 각각 S. mutans와 S. salivarius에 대해 산 생성과 부착을 효과적으로 억제하였다. 사방오리나무의 2% MeOH 추출물은 구취유발 화합물인 황화수소, 메틸머캅탄, 황화디메틸을 억제하는 효과가 뛰어났으며(p<0.05), 2% GA 또한 황화수소를 억제시키는 효과가 있음이 확인되었다(p<0.05). 본 연구의 결과, 사방오리나무의 활성분획물과 GA는 항균효능, 산생성 억제능, 부착 억제능 및 구취 억제효능을 가짐으로써 구강병원균에 대한 천연항균제제로써의 사용 가능성이 충분히 있는 것으로 판단된다. To investigate the antimicrobial and anti-halitosis effects of Alnus firma extracts and gallic acid (GA) isolated from A. firma, we measured their antimicrobial activities against oral pathogens and their inhibitory effects on the cell adhesiveness and acid production of oral pathogens. In addition, the levels of volatile sulfur compounds were determined by using oral chroma. The dichloromethane (DCM) fraction has broad antimicrobial activity, and the ethylacetate (EA) fraction showed a relatively high level of antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromons gingivalis. Especially, the GA and DCM fractions had significant inhibitory effects on the attachment and acid production of S. mutans and Streptococcus salivarius, respectively. The 2% MeOH extract of A. firma showed a significant inhibitory effect on the production of volatile oral compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide, which can cause bad breath and halitosis. Two percent GA also had a significant inhibitory effect on the production of hydrogen sulfide. Our study showed that the active fractions and GA of A. firma could be suitable resources for development as a natural antibiotic agent for the treatment of infectious oral diseases.
Toluene 내성 세균 Pseudomonas sp. BCNU 171에 의한 Toluene 및 Xylene의 분해

Toluene 내성세균 Pseudomonas sp. BCNU 171은 고농도의 유기용매를 분해함이 밝혀졌다. 조사된 14개의 방향족 탄화수소 중에서 cumene, ethylbenzene, p-xylene, toluene 그리고 1-heptanol이 자화됨이 확인되었고 toluene, p-xylene, m-xylene 그리고 o-xylene은 회분배양시 12시간 후에 98%이상이 분해되었다. A toluene-tolerant bacterium Pseudomonas sp. BSNU 171 was able to degrade high concentrations of organic solvents. Among 14 aromatic hydrocarbons tested, cumene, ethylbenzene, p-xylene, toluene and 1-heptanol were assimilated. The degradative rates of toluene, p-xylene, m-xylene and o-xylene by Pseudomonas sp. BCNU 171 was over 98% after 12 hours of cultivation.
